@lamentate07 I don't think his tastes have changed at all. He usually speaks of filmmakers within the context of whatever project he's promoting. So, for something like "Grindhouse," he talked a lot about B-cinema. But when he brings over a film from Asia (like "Hero") then he'll talk about Asian filmmakers like Wong Kar Wei. He doesn't really have "taste" per se. The dude likes everything. Absolutely everything.
I’ve wondered that too - my best guess would be “Cardiogram” directed by Darezhan Omirbayev - since that film is indeed Kazakh and was released in 1995 - and as mentioned in the beginning of this video - it was stated that Kiarostami and Tarantino were judges at the Taormina International Film Festival in 1995.
The story behind the making of Clerks is one of the most inspiring stories in the annals of film, just wished he had made an attempt at improving himself intead of making the same cheap and amateurish productions over and over again.
Another Persian here. Yeah the translation was a bit off. He was saying that Tarantino has done a good thing by making fun of violence, as it ‘lessens the tension’. I don’t know if I agree with him, though. I love Tarantino, but I’ve always felt his violence went a little too far. It’s really just torture porn. I still love his movies, but I have to look away during those scenes.
Tarantino makes porno movies next to Kiarostami, but there is room for all types of directors in the vast world of cinema.
