I am someone who has had manic depression for most of my adult life.
    I have contemplated suicide.
I have never felt the proclivity to procure sexually explicit images from teenage boys.
The fact that this is being used to mollify the morally bankrupt disaster of his own making disgusts me.
I find it infuriating that mental health is being used to assuage his guilt. Ok, he didn’t break the law but consider what he did.
He was exploiting a vulnerable young man, who had a drug addiction of which he was complicit by funding.
For what? To satisfy his sexual proclivity.
He should be held to account for this and not let of the hook due to his use of the mental health card.

It's awful, isn't it? And as a L myself, it's obvious how it will play out: he'll come out of "rehab" in a few months, do a teary-eyed interview dressed in dark clothes with dramatic shadow lighting, and claim he's glad to be gay! With no thought about what he's put his wife through. Like the men who suddenly claim they're women (really in the grip of a fetish), no one cares about their wives, it's all about them and their disgusting narcissism!!

I have worked as a mental health social worker, have a parent who committed suicide and I am now diagnosed with PTSD. Whilst I don't have the same symptoms as you or Huw or even my father who killed himself, I would not be so arrogant to assume that because my mental health issues do not affect me in that way, that no one else has those symptoms. I have worked with those who act extremely promiscuous during a manic episode. It is a symptom of bipolar 1, rapid cyclers will sleep with anyone as some of my clients did. They slept with women, men, threesomes, whatever took their fancy and regardless of my shock, that does not make their mental health issues any less significant than anyone elses. So whilst you sit in your ivory tower judging others, think that you don't get to decide what anyone else's mental health issues look like or how they present themselves.

''not let him off the hook'' for what exactly....??? The police have cleared him of any illegal activity, & the BBC are only his employer, not his carer/nanny or take full responsibility for what he got upto in his private life. Morally he's wrong in what he's done, but the BBC are limited to a couple of choices, either he stays or goes, basically.
& if you are a manic depression sufferer, you'd understand the fact the guy has now been admitted to a hospital ward somewhere, so clearly he is unwell...

Most of the public, particularly those on social media, are as bad, if not worse.

Now, we will have crocodile tears from the same people who bayed for blood.

He is a predator that preys on young men, as young as 17 for his own personal sexual gratification period. His mental health break is a reactive event following the fact he was outed for this behaviour and not the cause of his predation. He has used BBC provided devices to engage in this behaviour which will be a breach of BBC policy. The statement by his wife was planned and self serving. A fifth person has come forward, this one from the BBC. The best that can be said, at this stage, about Huw Edwards is he's a predatory pest and the worst may be yet to come.

lets not delve to deep into the mental health aspect here as it's no excuse. But the thing that's really making my blood boil is the fact when this happened the person was only 17. It is illegal to send, share or and distribute (that includes asking for sexual imagery even with consent) to do so with anyone under the age of 18. They wasn't 18. How have the police turned around and said no offense was committed and how are people sympathising just because he has mental health? I suffer with mental health and I know right from wrong, what's legal and what's not. I'm currently studying Criminology to then get into college to get a bachelors degree. The polices conclusion baffles me. So are we just turning a blind eye and brushing it under the table? They were 17! 17= illegal for sexual imagery and the law clearly states it under Section 1 Protection of Children act. Terrible policing and once again no justice!.
