I feel like you have better instructional videos than others because you get to the point quickly instead of droning on about things, and you explain things clearly and concisely and that's how I like to teach. Too many merely TELL what to do, but don't EXPLAIN WHY. I figure if you explain why, instead of just tell them what to do, it should stick better in the player's mind and they have a better chance of remembering it. I'm glad I found this channel, it's very good!

I was always taught to do backhand with the left foot in front? is this drill more about the hand work rather than the footwork?

There will be times you aren't crossed over, but yes, this is more for hands!

Upon receiving the ball should she not pull it into her stomach with 2 hands to ensure she has the ball secure?

You usually don’t have time in softball. Speed of the game is faster due to 60’ bases. Field, separate and fire. Not field, funnel into stomach, separate, 2 shuffles for fast runners or 4 shuffles for slow runners like baseball.
Top slappers at a D1 level can get down the line in sub 2.6-2.7.

Naturally you'll have to pull more towards center before separating. It depends on the hop. Notice with the balls straight on with the glove, I have the athlete bring it center before separating.

How do I help a player who seems to be in good fielding position on routine grounders, but the ball consistently pops out of the glove?
Is this lack of moving through the ball, lack of soft hands, should she be "raking through" a standard grounder like your player does in the bare hand drill? Thank you so much! My daughter is so frustrated at this and I haven't figured out how to help her.

For balls straight on, you want to funnel it more in than out, unless it's a short hop. Make sure her throwing hand is close to her glove as she fields so she can secure the ball and ensure a quick transfer. Also make sure her finger tips are down with a flat wrist. I see a lot of girls want to put their finger tips up and the ball isn't able to go into the pocket.
