I personally don't concur with the fact that if a licensed firearm personnel is held with over the prescribed amount of ammunition, the penalty will attract life imprisonment.
These restrictions, obviously have not been working (Jamaica's high crime rate) why continue to penalize a citizen and allow him to defend his home. Criminals are criminals because they don't obey the law so these harsh laws/ penalties only abuse a noncriminal Ja citizen. Allow a citizen to keep a firearm only within his home with an ammunition limit, submit to a stringent background check, and a rule that he or she registers the firearm and takes classes.
Citizens are allowed to own firearms in Jamaica under conditions similar to those you outlined. There isn't a blanket ban but you have to submit to background checks and be "licensed" to own one legally. I'm not sure how hard it is to become a licensed firearm holder but I've heard a case of a policeman being declined a private firearm (though I think he was flagged for a domestic violence situation).
@@samantha1054 No prob! The gov. agency responsible is the "Firearm Licensing Authority" and what's being discussed in this video is recent changes to the related law.
Same thing they did to the Chinese couple in St. Elizabeth that runs a supermarket. They were denied the firearm license and they ended up losing their lives by criminals.
Well what FLA is doing I think will be very effective.. hopefully all goes well and I would need for more law abiding citizens with clean criminal background..become successful in their application process with the FLA.
I’m sure that Jamaica’s criminals and home invaders will polite wait for the nervous citizen to ,open open up his safe and brandish his or her firearm…who comes up with these ludicrous rules 🤦🏽♂️
KINGSTON, Jamaica- A man has been charged with murder and illegal possession of firearm following an incident on Belvedere Crescent in Kingston on December 21, 2022. Can't find it

Very happy to see the process of legislative debate on this matter progress forward in benefit of the Jamaican citizen. Proud 🇯🇲 👍
