This is probably the best video I’ve seen about the various fabrics fjallraven offers . I own several products by the company and didn’t know how diverse the fabric line is! Thanks for this upload
I'm a die hard fan of fjallraven, I have 4 jackets from them and honestly the G-1000 is nothing special, they wear out like others jackets in the same range of price. I love the timeless design they offer.
The Singi X would take the win in a breathability contest thanks to it's improved ventilation and lighter-weight fabric choice, but something in G-1000 wouldn't be too far behind. It would depend more on how many layers of Greenland Wax have been used on the G-1000 piece to improve it's weather resistance, more wax = less breathability. We would say if your ambitions lead to faster-paced activities then go with the Singi X, but for slower paced activities where more protection and durability might be needed then something in G-1000 could be a winner.
Great video, appreciate the breakdown. Still not convinced about the fabric - it looks great for sure, and seems to be pretty popular but the Keb jacket I got a couple of years ago consistently let's me down even in drizzle, especially the hood (which is a huge part of this particular jacket) even with 3-4 coats of the wax. Up here in Scotland drizzle is the least of our weather worries so the jacket is resigned to the few dry/windy ones we have. Thanks again for the reviews, just found your channel and it's great.
@@trekitt Some say its a bit weaker than normal G-1000. Maybe they believe it because its brushed but once I tried a Singi Overshirt which is made of G-1000 silent and to me it felt a bit stiffer tougher than the normal G-1000.
Great video, awsome stuff. Big fan of the products! What's the name of the cap Paul is wearing in this video? The customers can feel the passion everytime Paul is talking about Fjällräven products. I think he's really a fan too 😁
Hi Denis. The cap that I'm wearing in the video is my absolute favourite, the Arcteryx Calvus Cap. Mine is an old colourway, the new colours can be seen here - www.trekitt.co.uk/facetresults.aspx?Term=calvus I have both of those colours now too! Thanks for your kind comments and for watching. Paul.
I am really confused by the G1000. I just bought a Fjallraven anorak to replace my worn out Northface waterproof jacket and now I realise that even with several layers of Greenland wax it will never be waterproof. So how can I ever go on hiking trips with just the G1000? Does it mean I always have to bring a second, waterproof layer for rain? I’m genuinely asking, I don’t understand how hikers can rely on these if they are not waterproof but they seem super popular. I feel like I’m missing some key information, would love to learn!
G-1000 is a lot like a softshell jacket. You don't wear it when it's absolutely chucking it down, but you do wear it for almost everything else. It's more comfortable and breathable than a full waterproof jacket, so G-1000 garments tend to get more use on a day to day basis. If it does get wet, it'll dry relatively quickly.
Greenland Wax is designed for any product made of G-1000, whether that's a rucksack, a jacket or a wallet. The Kanken's aren't made of G-1000 so they're not suitable for waxing. Harry
Im confused about fjallraven. I have items from them that have lasted years...but I also have things that wore out after 7 months. It's not a consistent company.
Hi Zahin, I'm sorry to hear that you've experienced some quality issues with Fjallraven; in our experience they have been excellent, and having used their products for many years, I have never been let down. Paul.
Hi, well spotted! I'm sorry for my error, it's sometimes hard to keep all the technical data in my head when filming a load of videos.. Thanks for watching and for your feedback. Paul.
Why, yes. And if you Greenland wax your G-1000 mask, your sneezes will boomerang back into your mouth with the force of a Nordic maelstrom, saving everyone around you from your potentially malicious mist.

Hi, thanks for your kind comments, we love making these videos and it's always great to hear that you appreciate them. Paul.
65% polyester and 35% cotton, not the other way around.
Still a great video though.
Well spotted!
Sierra design 40/60
By comparison the T1000 is liquid metal mimetic polyalloy.
Every day's a school day!
My knife is made from T1000! It also functions as an axe, a saw, and a small guard for defending my campsite.

Thats the point though. They break down unlike goretex. Best for the environment, goretex shouldnt be mass produced like it it
Love how he says years. Very informative sir.
Thank you kindly
How would you compare ventilation for winter sports of a G1000 parka vs. the Singi X parka, which is all cotton?
The Singi X would take the win in a breathability contest thanks to it's improved ventilation and lighter-weight fabric choice, but something in G-1000 wouldn't be too far behind. It would depend more on how many layers of Greenland Wax have been used on the G-1000 piece to improve it's weather resistance, more wax = less breathability.

Hi Gareth, thanks for your comments. To be honest there's probably very few materials that can withstand a proper Scottish downpour! Paul.
@@trekitt maybe a good Gore-tex jacket?
Fantastic review, thanks Paul!
I’m in love with this stuff
Hi Brandon, beware, Fjallraven products are addictive!
You did it again, great review, thank you.
My pleasure!
What’s the spf of these different fabrics?
I can't find a UPF rating I'm afraid; Fjallraven just state 'it offers UV protection'.
Does G1000 Silent have a softer feel?
Yes, the G1000 silent has a slightly brushed outer to make it quieter and softer.
@@trekitt Some say its a bit weaker than normal G-1000. Maybe they believe it because its brushed but once I tried a Singi Overshirt which is made of G-1000 silent and to me it felt a bit stiffer tougher than the normal G-1000.
0:37 Actually it is 65% polyester and 35% cotton.

So it's strictly for just garments? You shouldn't use it for the kanken backpacks at all?

I also had the experience with a G.1000 lite Jacked after just one year some heavy wear show up. But FR took it back. Did contacted FR?
Your blend numbers are wrong. It’s 65 poly 35 cotton

😂

yeah cut it up and make face masks if you wax it it will be ok to use in the rain
Polyester, terrible for you.
you are not consuming the fabric (at least i hope not). I doubt general contact will hurt you
