One of the all-time great debut albums. You should 100% listen to Led Zeppelin IV if you listen to any more of them- it's got 4 of their biggest hits. Just don't look up what the band did with a baby shark back in the 70s EDIT: Also don't look up what Jimmy Page did with a 14 year old girl back in the 70s
The whole album was recorded in 36 total studio hours. Remarkable. It's a shame so many of the songs on this album failed to credit the original authors. I suspect that's why critics were always so harsh on Zep. And yet it's my favorite Zep album. So raw and powerful. Also their long odysseys are proggish though obviously the lyrics are not.
I know Led Zeppelin IV and Physical Graffiti are usually considered their masterpieces, but this record always has been my favorite Zeppelin record. I love the raw and post-psychedelic era elements on this album. And I honestly love how young and crazy Robert Plant sounds on this album.
The energy on this record is the highest they achieved. Raw in spots, it leaps off the record start to finish. They never match)ed that again. (And I've never agreed with the Physical Graffiti take: too many filler tracks with Page soloing and generic Plant lyrics/vocals.
I need to tell you that l saw Zeppelin at least 20 times back in the 70's and let me tell you that they never played their songs the same way ,it was always different and so were they're sets, different songs from night to night and that's why l never missed a show. I'm a "Led Head" for life ❤️🤘🎶
It is truly unreal the scope and diversity of sound these four guys produce over their discography. Very few bands are so versatile and genre-bending. Every generation has a duty to pass them on to the next! We can’t let the world forget about this kind of music.
1:02 Good Times Bad Times 3:24 Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You 7:06 You Shook Me 10:55 Dazed and Confused 14:33 Your Time is Gonns Come 17:00 Black Mountain Side 18:00 Communication Breakdown 19:55 I Can't Quit You Baby 22:34 How Many More Times
Man....19 year old Robert Plant was something else. Haven't listened to this in a while. All the things that made Zep great were already there on the debut. Awesome stuff! I defiitely recommend going through all their discography.🤘
I’m loving the classic rock trip your on, I definitely think you gotta hit some Stevie Wonder. Songs In The Key Of Life or Innervisions would be fire, some of the best soul/funk albums ever
Another amazing album by Led Zeppelin is Houses of the Holy. Some recommendations: Lift to experience - The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads David Bowie - Low Silver Jews - natural bridge Asobi Seksu - Citrus
Since you’re checking out classic 60’s/70’s albums you absolutely have to react to Blue by Joni Mitchell. Easily my favorite album ever. Unfortunately her music isn’t on Spotify but if you used some other streaming platform or even YT it would definitely be worth it. There aren’t many reaction videos for that album and I’m sure there’s tons of people like me who would love to get to live vicariously through people experiencing Joni’s brilliance for the first time
When I was in college in the late 60’s I was singer in a rock band. We were huge fans of Led Zeppelin and didn’t several of their songs. I saw them in concert in 1969 and 1970. Great times.
I like how you found a story of heartbreak and betrayal in the flow of the album rather than just hearing it as a collection of mutated blues songs like most of us. And yeah all their stuff is worth checking out
Very interesting reaction - I love how you tried to analyze the lyrics and string them together as a cohesive theme. You are mostly spot on but you're missing one element: the Blues. Many of these bands were drawing from Blues songs for their lyrical inspiration and most Blues songs are about women lol
Led Zeppelin has great albums, this one is lit as well. Glad to see it here! I’ve listening to more metal recently, how about System Of A Down’s debut? Classic alternative metal album full of headbangers.
Please Smags, whenever you do 70's albums, please listen and react to Funhouse by The Stooges 🙏 Game changing rock and proto-punk record But yeah, I'm surprised you liked this one as much as you did. Definitely a super solid debut from Zeppelin. Dazed and Confused and Communication Breakdown especially are bangers in my opinion. Definitely check out Led Zeppelin 4 or Physical Graffiti whenever you listen to more. Their first few albums are great, but these albums are when I find they really started getting into their own artistically. You're a real G for doing a whole week of 60's albums. I really appreciate you for taking the time man. Keep up the great work dude! I'm looking forward to whatever's next! ✌️❤️
A lot of us that grew up with Led Zeppelin had go from the first album to the last album in order. That’s the best way to experience this band 😊 I say that they are the best band ever ❤❤
I like it when you group 3-5 albums with some kind of theme, The 60s, shoegaze, hiphop…I like the variation between the genres and the new, old and semi-old music but i also like to stay a little and explore. You do it well.
You should listen to Axis: Bold as Love by Jimi Hendrix, honestly one of the greatest sounding albums ever and the fact that it came out in the 60s is a testament to visionary that was Jimi Hendrix
After the single Whole Lotta Love from LZ II, as a young teenager I didn't really find the right access to these blues + soul rock songs, along with the 2 pop rock ones. But when I had more money and rediscovered it, I began to love this, for that time, versatile, blues-oriented album with its unusual, innovative "music journeys" (Dazed...+How...; live very long music improvisation journies, partly 20 minutes; a must to get to know all facets of LZ; e.g. Royal Albert Hall 1970!!!). I have to let myself go and listen consciously in order to notice the subtleties. I can't listen to it while driving in a traffic jam or jogging, similar to LZ III with its partly acoustic songs. LZ II+IV are suitable for the masses and I can be used in any situation for me. I love each one in its own way and don't want to rank them at all. Have a lot of fun on your LZ trip!!! Tip: listen to it several times, it's worth it.
Great reaction, man. I had to decode it, but I was relieved when I realized your "Oh my God!" was a sign of approval, lol! It sounded like you might be being a bit scoffing, like (eye roll) "OMG, I can't believe they're doing THIS in the song right now!" But you were really like "OMG, I can't believe they're DOING this in the song right now!" LOL. Just FYI: It wasn't a "story." Most of the lyrics come from old Blues songs. Like most "British Invaders," these guys worshipped American Blues music. LZ II is the same--only , yes, even BETTER!
I've always thought it was Robert Plant who made Led Zeppelin. True, the guitar and drumwork were topnotch, but the addition of Robert Plant made them superstars. Incidentally, "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You" is my favorite track on this album.
I recommend you to listen to three of the most revolutionary albums in history, which are the three from '66, like pet sounds. They are revolver by the Beatles, freak out by Frank Zappa and the mothers of invention and blonde on blonde by Bob Dylan. Leonard Cohen's first album and The Who Sell Out by the Who are also very good, which are from '67. Also if you like Velvet, I recommend listening to any of the Stooges and also The Modern Lovers. Your reactions are great! And the 60s are the best decade, especially between '66 and '69. The 70s are also a great decade, greatly influenced by what was done in those years.
I remember finding a box of records left by the side of the road for trash to pick up. Took it home and found this along with a couple other classics, all original first editions. This was last year.
Todays my birthday. It would be awesome if you could listen to Jim O'rourke "live at Japan 2002.9.16" or any of his other projects such as "Eureka" and "Halfway to a Threeway"
One of the first albums I ever physically owned, so many great jams, and I listened to it religiously. Great vid Mr. Smags. I shall continue to undertake my solemn quest of asking you to listen to Blackwater Park by Opeth. I GOTTA see you react to some death metal. 🤘🤘🤘
While you're on your older music, I'd have to recommend Bob Dylan Blood on the Tracks and Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street. Love your reactions. If you want to switch to newer (at least '90's+) I'd like to recommend Magnetic Fields 69 Love Songs, Belle and Sebastian Tigermilk and TV on the Radio Desperate Youth Bloodthirsty Babes
Hey Smags! love this reaction and this album. I would love to get you to react to Joanna Newsom - Ys, or Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone - The Unicorns. Both albums (especially Ys) are incredibly unique. Keep up the great work!
Hey Smags, since you’ve been doing more 1960s albums, you should definitely check out Frank Zappa! I’d recommend either Freak Out or Uncle Meat. A reaction on Trout Mask Replica by Beefheart would also be wicked!
Hey Smags! I think you’d get a lot out of some of Frank Zappa’s stuff. I recommend Apostrophe(‘) or Hot Rats to react to. Would love to see your reaction/review of those albums!
You should try Grizzly Bear's Shields and Daniel Rossen's You Belong There. That guy Rossen do some things with guitars that makes me think he was born knowing how to play it. It's too skilled.
when i was in high school, I made the horrible decision of making Good Times Bad Times as my alarm, now every time i hear the intro i get a visceral reaction
Hey Smags, got a very unknown recommendation for you. A good friend of mine is in a band called Soyboy, and they released their debut album 'Departure' in November 2023. They’re from Newcastle, Australia and describe themselves as Prog-Pop, but have elements of other genres like Post-Punk. I am genuinely unbiased when I say that album is probably my favourite of 2023. It hasn’t been blowing up as much as it deserves, and it would be amazing if you checked it out ❤️

the 14 year old girl had already been with half of the stones at least, she was perfectly willing, she still speaks fondly of jimmy now
@@Scoobydcs for me the fault lies with Jimmy Page who thought it'd be a great idea to have a relationship with a 14 year old runaway
the reality is far more nuanced than that

OMG ANOTHER CLASSIC SMAGS I LOVE U. DO PHYSICAL GRAFFITI BY LED ZEP OR LZ 4
Smags u should react to black sabbaths paranoid! Greatest metal album of all time imo and a similar time period to this album

You are so lucky. I have listened to this band for 50 years. Thousands and thousands of times, Let the journey begin.

The singer, Robert Plant, was 20 years ago when this album was recorded. He and I were born 33 days apart. 😀
Yes do Led Zeppelin 2
Definitely!!! LZ2 is THE hard rock progenitor
Led Zeppelin has great albums, this one is lit as well. Glad to see it here!

still (maybe?) my fave album ever and I bought it in 1969.
It’s hard to believe but it is True they had 3 weeks as a new band before recording their first album 😮❤
Obviously the best friggin rock band ever!!!😊
There's been a recent trend of underrating this record. This is a perfect record. Music would not be the same if this was never made.
Nobody in the history of rock has ever said "babe" or "baby" as often as Robert Plant. Definitely NOT a safe drinking game.
Cool reaction, thie band was just warming up with this album. Check out the next releases.
Just think, Smaggs, man, your grandparents were groovin' to this back in the day!
The last two songs are the blues! You have to check them out live! You should check out Steve Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble! 🔥
