This guy legitimately worked his way up from making silly songs in his bedroom to great stand up specials combining his theater/acting/singing/playing skills to making a damn movie. Good for you, Bo, keep it up!

This is a very important movie for the times we're in. It highlights the fact that teen internet personalities aren't necessarily narcissists, but more likely cripplingly insecure and desperately seeking validation. Also, the lack of substantive real world connections with peers only exacerbates the feeling of isolation. It's quite depressing, really. Brilliant movie.

Bo is so great and revolutionary in terms of improve on an existing genre of stand-up. He was motivated many including me to keep uploading videos. I used to be a fat shy kid in Catholic school and thanks to his inspiration I’m now a skinny shy adult who can fake confidence for 10% of a video.

I honestly can't believe that this is where Bo ended up but I am so so happy for him. His early youtube videos showed so much wit and humour and great lyrical abilities, he's clearly so talented. Can't wait to see this movie, sounds right up my alley!

It’s so great to see a Director! I loved his mentioning that he himself did a lot of acting as a kid ! Plus he made a film about a) real people and b) in ordinary life
Hurrah for him! Go, Bo !!

I really need to stop watching these though... I can already feel myself obsessing over this movie and it is going to ruin the experience of watching the movie the way I ruined ladybird for myself -.- I'm an ass.

Sure, some of the questions were typical, but I liked that Ben and Christy were able to ask some questions that he probably hasn't already answered 100 times in the past week.

He came to UChicago, back in May, and screened the film and most of the audience had horrible questions, so I'm glad you were able to get some substantive points out of him.

Considering Burnham's recent activity, what does "exclusive" mean here?

    • @RedRavenInteractive
      @RedRavenInteractive 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Jon Delfin exclusive to their audience. A chat with a creator exclusive to their channel. I don't get why you took time to write that comment. Burnham understands media he's promoting his movie what's the big deal?

I saw Eighth Grade a few months ago at a film festival- it was okay. I would like to see it again with an audience that is a little more... calm.
At the festival screening the audience was so loud and random in their collective cheering, hooting, laughing and guffawing that I thought sincerely that a good portion of the audience either were paid to be there or were extremely drunk on a Tuesday night. I mean these people were reacting to mild things with the roarious, over-the-top laughter that you see in old cartoons. Worse film etiquette I have ever seen.
I could see the germ of a good film during that screening. But if the audience did not ruin most of the film the studio/marketers ruined what was left.
Burnham was so canned in his replies during the Q&A, the hosts were as well and even spoke in ridiculous (read: meaningless) soundbite like praise of the film. Moreover, I saw almost the exact same questions, answers and praise repeated not just in word but inflection and mannerism on all the press for Eighth Grade. Which leads me to doubt the sincerity of the film.
I'll see it at a Wednesday matinee or something and decide how I feel about the film ultimately. But I am sensing a bit of a production.

Isn’t it pretty normal by now to have paid audiences?:( I’ve heard about it a lot

    • @Ashfer2

Who knows if most of that audience was there because it was Bo Burnham, and expected it to be a comedy. I didn't laugh that much, but I did cry at a few parts which I didn't expect. The audience I was in with was quiet and respectful. So I don't know, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and it did feel "real" as opposed to a lot of other "teen" movies. I suppose everyone is different and if you were surrounded by an audience like that it certainly wouldn't be immersive.
