I find it hilarious how True Geordie has spent years hating on Man City for sportswashing (and rightfully so) but is fuming now that there are rules being brought in to stop the Saudis doing the same with his beloved Newcastle. Can't have it both ways mate.

City aren't counter suing they are challenging the league on the new APT rules and saying the league can't legally enforce that rule on the league as its against competition laws in uk. Mind you uefa have a sponsorship law aswell but the one the epl have announced are targeted towards City and Newcastle hence why City has challenged them. Furthermore the outcome of City challenging the rules aren't gonna affect the 115 because this new rule was never in place when the 115 charges happened.

We do have a competitive league, though: 5 teams have won the title in the past 12 years. In the first 12 years only 3 teams won, with Utd getting 8 titles. It was largely a Utd/Arsenal duopoly until Chelsea arrived. PL income is higher than ever now and the game is more popular than ever. FFP is simply shooting ourselves in the foot against other leagues- let Newcastle, Villa, Everton, etc. spend what they like and have the best league in the world.
Utd had a youth team and transferred to professionalism sooner.
Arsenal did it cheaply and were professional with Wenger, nutrition etc.

These guys have no idea about finances and fair competition rules. Pumping inflated money through “sponsorship” by companies owned by your parent company is not allowed in any business. It is wrong because it inflates the market for everyone else, and makes getting correct value from your legitimate sponsors difficult and problematic. The same thing happened with player valuations, when suddenly PSG, BARCA, City started paying 100 million for any tom dick and harry.

The system can only be fixed by putting a cap on the price of players.With all the stats that we see on a game to game basis, there should be some sort of algorithm were players last 3 seasons are taken into account(personal stats, cups won, personal achievements, leagues played in,ect ect) there should be a max cost of a player that has “potential” and ball park figures for players who’ve done “x” and no player stocks be above 80 mil unless you’ve won a champions league and a couple league in your 3 seasons… this would solve all problems in football.

FFP rules are pure BS. Either implement a salary cap that is consistent across the board like the NBA or let clubs do whatever they want even if it means "twisting" the FA rules. Otherwise it's just about the "traditional" top 4 of Manchester United, Liverpoil, Arsenal and Chelsea.

It kind of infuriates me football pundits talking about commercial law with no understand of it. Allow me to explain. The premier league creates its own form of contract that governs competition. They made these FFP rules. If the premier league hadn’t done that and football clubs ran like any other business, one large company could give money to another one of its affiliated companies via a company loan. The giving company can tell its shareholders it’s a good investment because it will earn a good return on that investment (interest) and the receiving company is honest with its shareholders that it received loan funds from an investor which are not genuine profits but it will use that money to invest in players and return the loan and more profits. That’s standard business. But because of FFP Manchester City decided to try and go around this by faking genuine investment in the form of advertising. The premier league found this out but it’s bigger than the premier league, this is a crime which can result in jail time, separate to anything to do with the premier league. The giving company lies to its shareholders that advertising funds were for genuine advertising. The receiving company lied to shareholders that the incoming money was genuine revenue when it wasn’t. Man City also cannot justify this hence why they know they will lose. Genuine investment of such a large number is managed by a team, that team looks at all available options at the time and makes a decision that makes sense for an outcome, increasing revenue. Man City at the time makes absolutely no sense as an investment when viewed at non arms length, they were the size of Millwall. The amount charged and paid made no sense and remember the prem can see sponsorship deals city had before and at the same time. No haggling or negotiating, the investor also having no track record of alternative investment strategies. City are fkd. Relegation is the least of their problems tbh.

Shouldn't 'sustainability' have something to do with managing the debts to the point where they're paid off? Should there be another Covid (or something with a similar impact) - based on the status as it is now the likes of Man U, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool could just get more loaded with debt, yet still be in line with PSR! One ramification not mentioned here is the effect on the rest of the football pyramid. Football league clubs are obviously finding it hard enough as it is to retain their premier league status. If prem clubs were given free rein to spend however they like, newly promoted clubs would have no chance of competing.
Look at last season for the prime example. None of the promoted clubs had a prayer
I think Man City will win and should win as I think introducing rules to hold back certain clubs is against anti-competition law.
Any owner should have the right to invest as much money as they like into their club to increase it's growth. The other clubs ganging together acting in self interest to impede that growth I think should be and is illegal.
It would be like if to sell groceries you had to be part of the grocers union, Morrisons are worried about the growth of Aldi so they propose a union rule if you have less than X stores you can't open more then 2 a year. Tesco and Sainsbury's think great idea and vote for it, and all the corner shops vote for it as well as they don't want to open more than two stores, and its in their self interest to cut the chances of Aldi opening a store next to them.
As the EPL members vote their own rules in they will only ever vote in self interest not in the interest of fairness, that goes for all our clubs. They should not be able to bring laws in that are against the law of the land. If City win and the rule is found to be illegal, it gets changed, if they lose and the rule is found to be legal then it stays, simple as that I don't see the issue.
Also this case has no bearing on the 115 charges regardless of how it goes.

If you look at the top clubs in the league each one maybe has 3-5 brilliant homegrown players and the rest are further down the table.
The Premier League also included within the new rules that you can’t do business with your associated clubs - Another discrimination against City and similar clubs.
To call that discrimination is to actively cheapen other matters of real discrimination. This has nothing to do with discriminating against people from other parts of the world, this is about protecting the integrity of the game by stamping out /corruption/.

The idea behind legislation is sound but the application has been rushed and isn't right. In the past, going back to the 90s for example, we didn't have state owned clubs or owners so rich they could buy an entire state. We had to adapt to these changes and that's a fact. Is it a bit unfair in some instances yes but it would also be unfair to allow these mega owners to run rampant and make a joke out of the league.
