I usually microwave these rice packs (as instructed on the package) and have them with curry or other spicy meals. They are convenient for people who don't have the time to boil and prepare raw rice. They aren't to be consumed as a single meal, but rather part of a meal in a faster than usual way. They're good for trips, camping and so on.

I imagine these folks eat natural foods from the land 99% of the time, so this pre-packaged, pre-cooked rice contains a TON of preservatives, oils, and chemicals to preserve the shelf life. Therefore, they are not tasty like fresh cooked or freshly seasoned rice.
I imagine their palates would be MUCH more sensitive to the excess chemicals, preservatives, and super high levels of salt put into these processed food items. I bet they taste very salty and have a chemical taste to the Pakistani men.
Dear folks of Pakistan, in our homes and restaurants we make FANTASTIC rice dishes from scratch, just like you. Mots often with chicken broth and spices, sometimes with vegetables and fresh seasonings. We make fried rice with eggs and soy sauce. A lot of times we eat plain white rice with stir fry or americanized chinese food. We only eat this pre-packaged garbage rice when we are trying to save money and eat cheaply, or sometimes this is eaten by college students who don't know how to cook rice properly. Occasionally a mom will serve this when she is very busy and only has time to cook the main course, where this would be a side dish.

I've had this pre-cooked rice before and I can't say that I blame the gentlemen for being a bit critical. (in their usual polite and respectful way, of course)
If I could, I would explain to the gentlemen that this type of product is really meant to be a side dish with something like a pre-cooked rotisserie chicken and some frozen or canned vegetables or pre-made green salad from the grocery store.
It's usually served on a busy night when you need to get the kids to an event or a game at their school or the local little league field, etc.
In other words, this is not usually part of a home cooked meal or a dinner party with friends. It's a "convenience food" that you prepare when you want to feed your family something a bit more nutritious than fast food from someplace like McDonalds or Taco Bell.
One thing that these convenient pre-cooked foods have in common, is that they're easy and fast, but they're rarely ever quite as good as homemade!
    Blessings to all! 😊

But, I only eat this when I'm lazy and don't feel like cooking rice. Obviously, when you cook rice from dry grains yourself, it tastes way better and is still our preferred method of cooking rice.

Uncle Ben’s rice is “converted rice”, a way of pre-cooking rice that helps it keep more nutrients and cook more evenly. But it is more expensive, and it also comes in quick-cook packets.
Ben’s is the superior choice for cooking rice in a flavored broth to put flavor in the rice. The best example is jambalaya, a French / African stew that comes from the southern coast of the US. Make a stew of very strong roast chicken bones and meat, chilies, onion, celery stalk, and strong smoked spicy sausage, then cook the rice in that stew. Ben’s rice will be firm, separate, and tasty, basmati will be gummy and soft.

Ben's Original Rice isn't from Barbados, it's from the United States. The original name was Uncle Ben's which began in 1943... the rice they're eating is the pre-cooked instant rice. It's much better if you boil water and place the bag inside for a few minutes, it finishes cooking the rice and it tastes much better than microwaving it. The rice comes in many different flavors. I prefer the type you have to cook yourself.

Of course, keep in mind these are designed to be "easy to cook" or very nearly "ready to eat." So, they're fairly generic and mass-produced.
Obviously, if one were to actually make it themselves according to a proper recipe it would be much better, properly cooked, etc. These are mostly just for parents and families who don't have a lot of time or money to go out and buy proper food and cook it themselves laboriously. So they just buy these packets for a dollar or two, and they can be prepared in like ~5 minutes. Very quick and easy. "Convenience food." Convenience food is almost always inferior to the "real thing" that took time to prepare properly.
But, they're usually at least passably good. Though perhaps not perfect...

Spanish Rice is usually served along with Mexican foods like enchiladas and burritos, often along with refried beans.
