This was my first bluegrass festival that I randomly walked into. They gave me a free CD and I will always remember this with a smile. Fan for life.

Darrell and I hung out at the Russell county fair when he played with Bluegrass Kinsman. Things turned out pretty good for him landing in this group, then onward after that.

Sammy makes it look easy. The rest of us banjo players know it's not.

Give them a few more weeks and they'll have enough money put back to get those white shirts and vests.

      "Formal/casual" can lead to confusion...

Does anyone know if Sammy is a jerk? Why did Ronnie and Don leave the band?

Sammy is a very friendly, outgoing person. I don't see him often but I have known him since 1981 and I never heard anything but good things about Sammy. I don't know how familiar you are with the bluegrass culture but people change bands all the time for various reasons. Don and Ronnie both started their own groups...

Yea but when Ronnie left so did the other 2 all at the same time....and of course I know about bluegrass culture but when your in a successful BLUEGRASS band you dont just up and quit.

@@joshuahubbard4919 Ronnie went and took up songwriting, Kenny smith took up a band with his wife and I’m not sure what don did

Tim Austin was founder and leader of the band. Sammy took over after Tim left and started Doobie Shea records

Quite boring until Kenny and Don joined. Exceptional lead guitar and exceptional tenor singing.

Never heard that viewpoint before but thank you for tuning in...... I guess one person's 'boring' is another person's 'exciting'. I got some more recent LRB clips with Kenny Smith and Don Rigsby that I will upload in the future...

@@JanJohanssonmusic I guess you're right, what I meant to say was that this band needs strong lead guitar playing to be even more exciting. PLEASE, post that footage with Kenny. If you go to my youtube channel Bluegrass & Flatpicking guitar channel, you'll see plenty of live footage with Kenny and Don...incredible. Thank you

@@JanJohanssonmusic I'm pretty sure I saw this lineup at a concert in a historical church in Pasadena, that is with Darrell Webb. I remember they were teasing the young man playing mandolin and Tim Austin broke a string (cuz the way he plays so hard). Based on singing and groove the lineup with Tyminski was my favorite. The Kenny and Don lineup was a powerful unit with both singing and playing. To each their own.

I love the Tim Austin era LRB more than any other band ever. Don and Kenny are amazing, but this is closer to my heart. I can understand Boris's view, but I'm in that other camp 😎
