  • In this video I take a relaxed walk around two of Kyoto's many shrines, snapping images as I go. Pop on some headphones and enjoy the sights and sounds of Kyoto, Japan.

Thank you! This was a lovely, meditative treat as I begin my Saturday. The individual stills were wonderful, but I was especially taken by the light through the window casting a lattice shadow on the wall. Very evocative!

I have to admit to a bit of a fascination with Japanese culture; or what I perceive of it from a western viewpoint. Studied various forms of Buddhism (enough to know I'm not a Taoist), did Aikido for a couple of years, decided 'mindfulness' was just a meaningless western guddle of concepts. Can't say I came away any more enlightened than when I went in, but that conversely enough may be the point of Zen ... one hand clapping !
At the back of it is always the knowledge that one of my uncles was a prisoner of the Japanese during WW2; culture and tradition is only as 'useful' as the people who engender and represent it.
Lovely shots, beautifully balanced, well cropped, saturation right (IMVHO), metaphorical bow !

yeh its a fascinating culture. Like most things its one of those more you learn, the more you realise you've only just scratched the surface subjects. Back to some Scottish stuff tomorrow
