- In the men’s competition, it’s Gary Wilson, an exotic dancer from St Petersburg, Florida vs. Coz Worthington, a computer operator from Mamaroneck, New York. In the Women’s round, it’s, Toril Torjesen, an agriculture aide from San Bernardino, California against, Kristi Kropp, a construction worker from Andover, Minnesota.
Atlasphere: The contenders and Gladiators battle in spherical metal cages. The contenders must stand on scoring pods while the Gladiators try to stop them.
Assault: The contender must attempt to hit a target while a Gladiator shoots at them using a tennis ball cannon.
Hang Tough: The Gladiator and contender swing across hanging gymnastics rings, with the contender trying to make it to the opposite platform without the Gladiator forcing them off.
Powerball: Contenders try to score points by depositing balls into baskets and avoid being tackled by three Gladiators
Joust: The Gladiator and contender face off for 30 seconds on elevated platforms. They must knock each other off with pugil sticks.
Swingshot: The contenders bounce with bungee cords to try and retrieve colored balls for points, while the Gladiators try to disrupt them.
The Eliminator: The Eliminator is an obstacle course spanning the arena, the winner of which advances to the next round of the competition.

Welcome to the official channel of American Gladiators, home of patriotic spandex and giant cotton swabs.
Beginning in 1989 for 8 seasons, this competition swept America. Two men and two women compete against each other and a roster of "American Gladiators". Events included, The Assault, Joust, The Wall, Breakthrough and Conquer, Hang Tough, Powerball, and many others, all culminating in the final event, "The Eliminator", a difficult obstacle course race. Every season there is a tournament to determine its "Grand Champion". For two seasons, there was an "International" competition taped in England where the champions from 4-6 countries competed similarly.

Wow, Lace 8:43 looks super buffed in this Season, she gained 20-lbs of muscles and lots of weight training during off season 🥰

@@STEJTHEGREATEST Lace was in her 20's back in Season 3 so it is possible to gain 20-lbs during off season. On the show she said she weight trained everyday and run on the beach.

Wow, I don't even remember that bit in the Eliminator where the Gladiators attempt to pin the contender down with the medicine balls.
The medicine ball gauntlet after the first wall only lasted for two episodes.
But at least they changed the Format of The Eliminator, where instead of winning by a time spread, they give the point leaders a Head Start, which makes much better sense.
I kind of liked it where it didn't matter if you won first. You still had to win by so many seconds, but yeah the defecitakes more sense too.

For someone who a 5 and half seconds handicap and a 10 seconds penalty it's impressive that Toril came so close to beating Kristi.
Those two near misses in Assault were the difference. I always cringe at the second one smacking into the wall a meter away knowing that was it.

In this season, the Assault had some pretty limp weapons, and the target makes this look like a budget version of Gladiators.
I watch this particular episode at least two or three times a year hoping Toril's going to win, but alas...

I like that they ham it up for the cameras but clearly there is respect there , efter nearly every event there is always a handshake.
The third season was the last for Nitro (Dan Clark) until season six, as Clark, along with Myke Horton (Gemini), left the show amid a dispute over royalties owed to them from merchandise. Nitro would return as a Gladiator in 1994, yet he would never receive the royalties owed to him. Horton appeared as a contestant on _Press Your Luck_ in the 1980s.

In addition to Nitro & Gemini's exits, this season also marked the lasts for Blaze (Sha-Ri Pendleton), Lace (Marisa Pare), Gold (Tonya Knight), Thunder (Bill Smith) & Ice (Lori Fetrick), who only took a season off as she came back for the 1993-1994 season.

This is the season that introduced me to American Gladiators in 2008. Yes, before I watched the 2008 revival, I watched this season on ESPN Classic. I'm feeling nostalgia for watching something nearly 15 years old that was nearly 17 years old when I watched it. I'm not sure if that's the idea cycle of nostalgia, but if it doesn't achieve that goal, it's gotta be close. Now here are some other notes.
It's the first time we get to see Swingshot period, the first time that contenders could score in Atlasphere by simply rolling over the scoring pods, and the first time contenders can score in Assault by simply firing weapons. One's a great event, the other two are ways to make scoring more balanced.
The gladiators all have new outfits although I think the vertical stripes on Gemini and Ice's outfits were bad ideas. They just look too garish. Laser's new uniform is iconic though.
I feel that contenders should've gotten three points for hanging on in their end of hang tough and six points for getting to the gladiator's half but not to that platform. If that had happened and nothing else changed, Toril would've beaten Kristi in the eliminator.
I looked ahead, and the gladiators pushing the medicine balls right after the eight foot wall was removed after the first two episodes of this season. I understand wanting to make the final obstacle of getting through the gladiators themselves less luck-based, but what if the gladiators themselves didn't feel like stopping the contender that time?
5 minutes in and two ad breaks already. Thats on pace for 16 ads if they do 2 every five minutes. Like I want to spend all night watching 1 old episode..

It feels like weapons in Assault got way worse this season from the previous one. Less oomph behind them when firing and way more inaccurate too.

4:23 Great that season 3 started with Atlasphere 🔮 and even better with that starting ramp, which gave the spheres more speed. The initial shocks were tremendous 👊 I remember one of Blaze against a contender that almost went flying through the air 😆
15:35 Turbo showing how bad a competitor he is. Already, in season 2, I was annoyed by some of his attitudes, but from this fact I definitely disliked him just by seeing him 21:15 🤮 I preferred Tower a thousand times.

Turbo,Nitro and lasre are great athletes but their ego is way bigger than they are and when they lose....they are very poor sports and it shows.
