It's great to see some TVS material! A company who truly served the south & southeast investing in programmes and studios and who probably made more programmes in 10 years on air than Southern and Meridian put together - the latter having been on air for 21 years. Although TV has changed and had too in order to compete, I do wonder what the landscape would be in the UK, if the broadcasting act of 1990, hadn't inflicted serious changes to the ITV system.
A rare on-screen role for Nick Jackson, one of the most prolific game show announcers/voiceovers in the late '80s and early '90s. It's a shame he never got any more hosting roles after this!
This is the first time I have seen Nick Jackson in person as he's more well-known for doing voiced-overs on different ITV game/quiz shows than appearing in front of the camera.
Thanks glad you enjoyed, there will be some more Concentration's soon, i do have some Pyramid Game's and will put them up too. Sorry to say that i don't have any episodes of Tell the truth or Quandries.
This show was based on an American format of the same name. It originally debuted on NBC in August 1958 with Hugh Downs as host. He would leave the show in January 1969 and be replaced by announcer Bob Clayton. In March of that year, Clayton would be replaced as host by Ed McMahon. However, Clayton would return as host in September, and would remain as host until the show's cancellation in March 1973. There were a couple of weekly primetime runs as well, the first only lasted four weeks as a quick replacement show in November 1958, and hosted by Jack Barry. The second lasted from April to September 1961, and Hugh Downs hosted. A new syndicated version would start airing by September 1973 with Jack Narz as host. He would host that incarnation's entire run up until September 1978. The most recent incarnation, titled "Classic Concentration", for which this version closely resembles, debuted on NBC in May 1987 with host Alex Trebek. He would host it until the show's cancellation in September 1991.
Good show with a great theme. Two observations: it had the typical TVS quiz show hallmark where the host would create small talk with the contestant for the first half of the credits before frogmarching them off the set like the local constabulary nicking a burglar (see also Catchphrase and Hitman). Secondly the graphics were done by a bloke with the unfortunate name of Dick Burn.....
wow - concentration on youtube for the first time hope there's more programmes to come, TVS did the best quiz shows - so id love to see more concentration and what about the pyramid game, tell the truth, Quandries etc keep up the good work my friend
I salute you, TVSproductions82 - I've been wanting to see episodes of Concentration for years so a huge thank you for these and The Pyramid Game. The ONLY thing that would make your channel perfect would be if you had the full version of TVS's last broadcast, Goodbye To All That - do you perchance?
I noticed what appears to be the old Family Channel logo (before it became ABC Family) in thew lower right corner of the screen. Am I seeing that correctly?
Interesting that they used the same computer-generated board graphics and the same artwork as the American version-at least for the first series, anyway. I wonder if they were recycled from "Classic Concentration" or if they contracted the NBC artists to create some new puzzles.
Loved watching this game.

THe animations is fantastic and the announer sound so polite.

Did he do going for gold?
Nick Jackson is very good as host. I also like the music, and the logo rendering of the word Concentration.

This and all clued up are two shows which need reviving

Been searching for this on youtube for ages! The host is exactly.as.cheesey.as I remembered lol
Jolly good. You knows it's England when the contestants apologise for winning and refuse to take their opponent's stuff in the interests of fair play.

Thanks for this too my friend
Looks as though STeve Ryan, who did the puzzles for the US version of this show that was in production at that time, did the puzzles here.
Interesting that it used the same CGI board as Classic Concentration.
wow - concentration on youtube for the first time

keep up the good work my friend
That was pretty good for their first episode of the series. It's too bad it didn't last longer than it did.
2 Series were made & the second series was hosted by Bob Carolgees of Spit the dog fame.

Not to worry, just thought I'd ask - and you're STILL awesome!
That's ok glad you like, i do have a copy of Goodbye To All That, i will get that up on here at some stage soon.
The concentration board graphic is literally the same as the one from the US.
From the 1989's/1990's version.
The Concentration board in the original 1958-77 U.S. versions had 30 squares instead of the 25 in later versions.
Is this the England Version of our Classic Concentration ?
Pretty much. It only lasted for a couple of years there though.
The bonus game prizes in the 1980's/1990's U.S. version were cars instead of trips.
Thank you, you are officially awesome. Also, just out of curiousity, do you have any editions of Hitman hosted by Nick Owen?
looks like doug llewelyn from the people's court 1980's
I noticed what appears to be the old Family Channel logo (before it became ABC Family) in thew lower right corner of the screen. Am I seeing that correctly?
Joel Lafargue That is a Family channel logo you can see (this was the UK version of the channel) later became Challenge TV in the UK.
Interesting that they used the same computer-generated board graphics and the same artwork as the American version-at least for the first series, anyway. I wonder if they were recycled from "Classic Concentration" or if they contracted the NBC artists to create some new puzzles.
Is it just me or did David take a dive in game 3?
In memory of Alex Trebek
Almost looks like the US version
Sorry to say i don't have any copies of that.
Feel bad for the guy on Graphics, his name: Dick Burn
he went on to be a priest in Father Ted 😂
Nope, no, they didn't take any design cues from "Catch Phrase", nope, not at ALL.
The guess a slow boat to China was a rather stupid one. There was no evidence of a boat in the puzzle
is it just me, or does Nick Jackson kinda look like Max Headroom?
I think he looks a little like Richard Chamberlain.
I'd say a suave Eddie Izzard, personally
Martin Fry, but his face is more exaggerated
WHO IS THE ANNOUNCER
Given it was a TVS production, my guess is that it was Malcolm Brown
We say 8 like ate-- not -- iit
