I just noticed the fireman is in the left cab instead of on the tender deck where he could shovel the culm into the firebox. This isn't an error, it's actually accurate to how some real camelback crews worked. The big firebox of a camelback may have been fuel-hungry, but it also took a long time for that culm fuel to burn out. If a fireman was skillful, he could build up the fire properly to keep the pressure up, then go take a break in the shelter of the left cab and wait until it was time to shovel again. The cab was more comfortable and weather-proof than on the tender deck, but now he was in the flailing rod zone like the engineer. Oh well, you can't have everything.
The Camelback has to one of the most obscure and unique locomotives ever built. I love the colors on this particular model, that gun metal grey with the red cab looks gorgeous, and for a little engine it has a lot of pulling power, I counted 9 passenger cars it was pulling, it's definitely the little engine that could. Great review Eric!
I purchase this one on a pre order! I live in Brigantine which is right next to Atlantic City. I looked this engine up on line, and there are pictures of it from I believe 1890. Lionel did a good job reproducing it. I have never seen anything with Atlantic City railroad so I had to have it! I was notified today that its on it way to me. Originally it had a date of 01/30/24 as delivery, so I am excited its coming early.
That is one beautiful toy machine!! I love all Lionel trains regardless of Era. I have been into high end audio systems for decades as well as muscle Mustangs, Jeep wranglers( 2023, my 3rd and end game), vinyl and cd collecting and Marvel comics. These are expensive hobbies but I am still going to get some Lionel trains. I had them when I was much younger and my love for them and Lionel train culture has not diminished over the decades!!
Okay I have to admit when I've seen some of the whistle steam smoke effects especially on some of the vision one product says of just a couple of years ago on Eric's trains I don't think the amount of smoke coming out of the hole for the whistle steam smoke effect was enough on those particular models on this one though it looks very full volume and very realistic and I appreciate the attention to detail Lionel has put into that feature of this locomotive it looks wonderful I even think I noticed the amount of smoke changing with the quilling of the whistle it just looks absolutely amazing
What’s cool about the Jersey Central and the other short lines around NJ was they kept camelbacks in service far beyond the rest of the country. Almost until the end of steam
The paint looks better in production than the drawings! Much more vibrant. Love the new features in the videos. Ive been watching for many years, keep up the great content.
Too cool! 6 wheels are big enuff to be eye catching yet small enuff to handle tight radius curves! Great video! I like this as much as i liked the 0 6 0 in the last show!
I’m so excited to pick mine up! So like back in March my local store had a pack of Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines heavyweight passenger cars and I grabbed them in preparation for this day lol I hope they go well together
Nice! FINE ART MODELS sold a 1:32 scale Camelback Steam Engine like that in 1998. It was very, very expensive, but still sold out very quickly back then.
I like Bell #3. Its colourful tune suits the locomotive and its cheery paintscheme. This engine would look great pulling 19th/early 20th century freight and passenger cars.
Nice video Eric. This is the first time I believe in any scale from any manufacturer producing this Railroad. For a little history. The Atlantic City Railroad pre dates Pennsylvania Railroad Seashore Lines (PRSL) and pre dates The Jersey Centrals services down to the shoreline. The paint scheme was used on a 4-4-2 Atlantic camelback, Hopefully will see matching passanger cars for this very soon. Nice overview!!
Amazing locomotive Eric! The only thing I don’t like is the different whistle selection. They just put some of same whistles on every steamer and call it a day. Also WOAH!!! 20:36
As an early South Jersey Railroad and property of the Reading I always had an interest in the ACRR. The real version of this engine is an Atlantic camelback and a much earlier one than this model. However, this is probably the first time anyone has made ACRR equipment in O gauge. How about some fancy wood side coaches for this next!?
Fantastic model. I reserved one through the muffin man! I believe the paint scheme is based on a historical brochure. Reading owned the ACRR. Seems the matching cars were green with a grey roof. Hoping we get cars
I preordered one but have not received it yet. Going to run it with my MTH blue comet passenger cars. I thought this engine was coming in December. Early Christmas present 🎉.
Yes, I received the Fezziwig camelback today from Charles Ro. It is loaded with Christmas sounds. Elfs, Santa.some music, The Bell has the sleigh bells sound effect like the other Christmas loco offerings. Horn is very cool and different. All Good. Love the colors on it. Bet it sells out quick. Hurry if you want one. @@Ericstrains
I thought Ryan Kunkle said the blue on the Camelback was going to be Russian Iron blue like on the Erie Camelback. Is that color blue a flat matted blue?😊
Overall, a good video. But I do disagree with you on one thing. I am disappointed in the blue. I was expecting something darker and a little more shiny. Like maybe almost a satin finish, based on the picture in the catalog.
Very nice Eric & I liked your max speed, I was like WOW 😮😮 You going to burn all the coal going that fast, Lol just joking, but overall, looks really good & liked the night time shots as well 🙂🙂
This is a nice loco, the only complaint I have is the paint job makes the engine look like it's made of plastic! When you look at the steam engines that Lionel Mfg. all of them look like plastic! They really have to change the quality of the paint.
I like whistle #5. When you said '$700.00 is not too bad, trust me', that's hard to swallow coming from someone who spends $40K a year on engines and rolling stock. Just saying! Beautiful engine though!
The price is what it is, and considering how expensive all the other Legacy steam was in that catalog...$700 was the most reasonably priced model. Keep in mind that "reasonable" is a relative term. And who said I spend 40K? ;)
Ha! Good point! Whenever I say "not that bad" or anything like that...it's always relative. What's "affordable" varies greatly depending on the person. I've reviewed trains that cost under $100 and people still complained about the price. $700 is a lot of money, to be sure, but it's still the most "affordable" high end Legacy steamer in the catalog. Inflation sucks! Take care and thanks for the comment!
No problem Eric! I understand that MRR is your hobby and business. I've learned a lot from your video's over the years, especially the ones involving scenery and the wiring of signals. Thanks for what you do for this hobby! BTW, I met you several years back at a York Meet and had my picture taken with you.@@Ericstrains
I remember my great grandfather operated one of these until it popped a rivit and hit him in the head. they were nicknamed mother hubbered locomotives due to how ugly they looked.
Nice running engine but I personally don’t see anything special about that paint job. I mean it’s nice but it just looks like Lehigh Valley steam engines

I am an original native of Egg Harbor, The Blue Comet has been in my list of “get everything” for some time.
😊
How much was it
The main rod being picked out in red is a absolute chef's kiss
I’m a camelback nerd. I love the history and design of these engines. I Even have the original Lionel CNJ 771 camelback from the year 2000🚂
They are awesome locomotives!
Such a neat design and I’m glad they did another run, too!

Absolutely love the paint scheme of this engine. The red siderods are my favorite part, reminds me of some German steam locomotives.
For real!

Great review Eric, I think Lionel knocked it out of the park with this model, the paint scheme is gorgeous.
I think so too!
Looking good, Eric! I like your new way of doing an intro.
I'm glad you like it
Ordered the Fezziwig version and I can’t wait to receive it. Thanks so much for including a photo of it, first I’ve seen!
No problem!!
I received mine today! It's absolutely fantastic! It runs great and sounds great. Loving this one
Great to hear!
The paint looks better in production than the drawings! Much more vibrant. Love the new features in the videos. Ive been watching for many years, keep up the great content.
I agree!
Wow! A paint job that commands attention!
Beautiful. I have the Long Island Railroad version that was made a couple of years ago and I love it!
I love it!
BEAUTIFUL Locomotive! I Plan to run the “Fezziwigg” to compliment a Dickens Chistmas Carol themed display. Can’t wait for delivery!!!
Have fun!

Really appreciated the education about the camelback. I didn't know any of that. Thanks.
A lot of speed for that type of Train, awesome. Very good sound.
Nice!

Oh wow!
Great review!!! Mine was shipped today. Can’t wait to get it.
Really nice paint scheme. One my Favorite engines ! Wish the tender paint matched the engine.
I have the blue comet one they did but the underrated one in the catalog this time is the PRR not everyone noticed the detailing on that one
That blue comet one looked sharp!
I like Bell #3. Its colourful tune suits the locomotive and its cheery paintscheme. This engine would look great pulling 19th/early 20th century freight and passenger cars.
Interesting looking locomotive very impressive layout and train collection Eric you are one extraordinary model train expert 👍🏻✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

My favorite is #2 I love whistles like that it’s just kinda like a mountain engine 😂
Amazing locomotive Eric! The only thing I don’t like is the different whistle selection. They just put some of same whistles on every steamer and call it a day.
Also WOAH!!! 20:36
Whistle tones 1 and 3 are my favorites
My favorite Whistle's I'll have to say 1/3 and 5.
Those three are the best In my opinion.
Beautiful Train , Train cars and layout!
hi again love your videos big inspiration keep up the good work (love your hair cut)
Thank you so much!!
My favorite whistle on the Camelback is number four because it sounds like I whistled you might here a UK heritage railway
Is anyone gonna point out that amazing Frank the Tank shirt, LOL. Great little engine and standout scheme.
🤣
Great looking engine Eric, nice addition to your collection 👍👍

Right on
Hey does anyone know where the soundboard is located on the Lionel southern Atlantic
In the tender
@@Ericstrains that’s what I thought
Does the Fezziwig camelback have theme related dialogue? The would make me get one.
I preordered one but have not received it yet. Going to run it with my MTH blue comet passenger cars. I thought this engine was coming in December. Early Christmas present 🎉.
Great. I have that Fezziwig Camelback preordered. Can't wait!
It looks incredible!
Did you hear it run? Wondering if it has any themed Christmas sounds or voice added.@@Ericstrains
I did not, but I think it does have some holiday sounds.

Do you keep and store all the original packaging materials or is it in a landfill?
Whistle #3 and bell #4 are the ones I like
There were 7 road names on the Camelback in that catalog, not 6. There was a Lehigh Valley Camelback in a set on pages 44-45.
Good catch.
#3 whistle is my favorite
Such a beautiful engine and yet so dangerous! Thanks for sharing this, Now there’s no question what I’ll want for Xmas this year.
Awesome!
It is an awesome locomotive. It would be really cool if they made a 2-6-0 camel back in the Canadian Pacific scheme.
A wonderful locomotive! I love it!
Me too!
Impressive! It’s the little engine that could and did. MFPOTV maximum speed!😊
I started watchin before the big bridge in the main room lol, and you look way happier now my g💪🏿. I always catch up on vids after wrk lol.
Thank you!
Whistle # 2 is my favorite.
Very nice train awesome video
🚂😎👍
Whistle number 4 for this small engine.
Their out of stock on every web page I look through! I am so glad I ordered mind a long time ago.
Pre-ordering is the way to go for sure.
Another nice one Eric 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Is there a Lionel offering of “Atlantic City passenger cars”?
I hope so.
Awesome engine Eric!!!
I think so too!
I thought Ryan Kunkle said the blue on the Camelback was going to be Russian Iron blue like on the Erie Camelback. Is that color blue a flat matted blue?😊
It's different than the blue on the Erie for sure, but I like it!
Wow very sharp!
In a year I may purchase this I like the steam engine
Cool!
I hope Lionel keeps making the engines from Volume One quickly because I really want my Russian Decapod
Me too!
I like whistle #1 too,
Look amazing engine
Nice engine.
Overall, a good video. But I do disagree with you on one thing. I am disappointed in the blue. I was expecting something darker and a little more shiny. Like maybe almost a satin finish, based on the picture in the catalog.
Fair enough!
Like Whistle 3 and Bell 4.

Whistle #3, bell #4.
Looks more realistic
The new one
Your the best
Whistle numbers 1 & 3 have too bee my favorites. All the other ones seem like recycled sounds from older Lionel engines
whistle #3 my choice
Love the video, especially the billboards and humor.
By the way, are you losing weight?
yes
And bell #1!
Whistle 2 bell 5
I like whistle #5. When you said '$700.00 is not too bad, trust me', that's hard to swallow coming from someone who spends $40K a year on engines and rolling stock. Just saying! Beautiful engine though!
The price is what it is, and considering how expensive all the other Legacy steam was in that catalog...$700 was the most reasonably priced model. Keep in mind that "reasonable" is a relative term. And who said I spend 40K? ;)
The past few years when you make your picks/pre-orders from the bi-annual Lionel catalogs, I added up the prices and there you go!

The Chapel Car is going to Atlantic City? Lol. Gotta preach to the sinners.
The Jersey Central was bankrupt and only dieselized because EMD finance the purchase of new diesel locomotive.

Paint scheme not prototypical.
Actually, it is. It’s the most prototypical paint scheme ever. Ever! 😃
