Hi! I was in Narvik about 3 weeks ago. This was a great video since I was able to recognise the city and scenery and re-live some of my time in Narvik. I went to the Scandic bar/restaurant- the big building you showed with the shot of the webcam- and drank a beer and enjoyed the scenery. Glad I came across your channel.
Norge and Eidsvold are the two Norwegian pocket battleships that were sunk in Narvik during the first hours of the German invasion in 1940. Norge was of course named after Norway, Eidsvold was named after the village and manor where the Norwegian constitutional assembly met in 1814.
18:19 the guy asking "are you gonna be quick?" to see if you wanted to go in front of him (assuming he knew he was gonna be a while) was so sweet! I've experienced it quite a few times as a Norwegian, but haven't really paid much attention to it before. I feel like it gives a nice insight into norwegians' genuine politeness, which is often not appreciated due to people misinterpreting our bluntness or stoicness as being impolite.
Love watching you walk around town in Norway. This should be a thing going forward when you travel! Really enjoying these, feels like we are walking right there with you and laughing at all of the jokes.
You sure know how to put a smile on a cold Californian's face. Cold BUT SUNNY! Thanks for makin this video, and thanks for letting me see it. I just wish to hell I were walking those stony streets with you. Are you alone on this jaunt? -- charlie, sacramento
I agree, NOK 35 for a 50 cl bottle of pop is steep, but then gas stations, Narvesen, Seven Eleven etc are infamous for their prices. A tip: the "Normal" nick nack stores, found in shopping malls everywhere, sell chilled Dr Pepper 50 cl for 17 kroner. At least they did the last time I checked, inflation is running rampant these days.
The broken columns have significance in Freemasonry. The broken column image is sometimes used as a graphic for Masonic obituaries. It may represent the death of a brother of the craft who is no longer upright or has died before his time - "His work was not done, yet his column is broken."
Thanks for the video. I wast specially interest in watch it to know a little about the city. I had a wonderful Samoyed bought from a german breeder, that called the dog Narvik. (Miss him.) Loved the city, Norway is a beautiful country. Now I'll watch the other videos, Tronsø, etc. Nice way to know cities around the world, walking with you.
The stone reads, "This stone came from the bombed site of Hiroshima". How cool. Train trip around Norway - Sweden (Oslo - Trondheim - Bodo - Narvik - Stockholm - Oslo ) is definitely on my wish list. I will try to make it happen next year.
I watched with interest all your videos from northern Norway, I live in Lillehammer southern Norway, visited Finnmark only once with Hurtigruten, never with a car. Very informative videos, I now feel I know so much about Finnmark I dont need to go there. Thanks alot for making these videos!
I live in southern Finland, and visited Finnmark about 10 times. You should definitely visit Finnmark driving, it´s pretty special place. Å i Lofoten is the most southernmost place in Norway that I´ve visited, should go to south this summer.
If my memory serves me right (and that's a big if), I believe Tore Hund was some sort of a viking king or chieftain. He met his demise drowning in a.lake in southeastern Norway. It was winter and he crossed it riding his horse or horse drawn sleigh on the ice, which turned out not to be sufficiently thick. Anyway, my mother grew up living in Tore Hunds vei in the Lille Tøyen neighborhood in Oslo (back then in Østre Aker, Akershus county).
Hei det er kai , jeg har nettopp vært i både Tromsø og Narvik denne sommeren, nå ser jeg tilfeldigvis dine opplevelser i både Tromsø og Narvik, koselig og se at vi har vært på de samme plassene hilsen kai :-)
@@T1DWanderer when trying to find out what happened to someone's family before English left Narvik to rescue dunkirk or whatever the timeline matches they bombed Bjerkvik right before leaving a guy who is an elder now said he lost his twin brother and his mom back then, he told NRK in a interview I think in 2018
last half of may, june, july and first half of august is pretty warm, up to 30 celsius sometimes more. April and September usually gets pretty sloshy, rain mixed with snow for weeks. Then the rest is cold.
@@T1DWanderer I hope so. But the question is the same: is it homeless? And is it possible for an animal in Norway to be stray and just run around the street?
@@elizabethsnazzy2034 in Narvik there is no homeless dogs... its most likely the dog did run away from its home... or one of the old people that i know of that let their dog loose cuz they "cant walk the dog", although these old people happen again and again they get told by police to stop doing it... Norway is not a country its homeless dogs... but in Narvik its different problem that there is homeless cats... what most likely happen to the dog either the owner found the dog first or police did, police would just try to figure out who the owner of the dog and give it back.
Narvik has the worst infrastructure of all Norway, all the cracks in the road and the sidewalks, ugly buildings, still I have always loved the place because it has something to it ;-) And it is one of the only (maybe the only) place on earth were you can ski slalom on a professional slope from the top of a mountain down to the sea, even as late as May.

Most famously known in historical context is Eidsvoll for the 1814 National Assembly, which gave the country its Constitution.
Moc děkuji, hezky jsem si zavzpomínal na Narvik (CZ)
Greetings and welcome to my city

I watched this after seeing Narvik film on Netflix. 😊 The town seems very quiet.

Getting a SIM card in Norway was pretty straightforward. Great homework before your trip. I'm surprised how strict they were in Sweden.
Of course, it took me the whole trip to figure out how to use it without wasting it but yes, straightforward

Thanks Mike! The prices were indeed steep in Norway, food especially

Sounds good. You can't get to Narvik from Bodø though, only via Sweden. You can get a bus or boat though for that part
@T1D Wanderer yes, you can take a bus that goes on a ferry on the way from bodo to narvik, which sounds fun.

If you go to Kirkenes you are not far from Boris Gleb. Tore Hund was one of the 3 that killed the Christan King you spoke about.
Thanks for the information. I will be in Kirkenes, but not Boris Gleb, unfortunately

Shame you didn't stay in Scandic. You'd have gotten the view you were hoping for on the 15th floor :D
True. I did stay in a couple Scandics later on this trip though :)
ummm you kinda get the WWII story with Britain leaving a bit wrong, anyway there's a movie about the battle of Narvik now

"Omk." in a real estate transaction is short for "omkostninger" which may translate to fees and taxes.
