Long but comprehensive video tutorials with demonstrations aren't common in the WT community, which makes me appreciate them all the more because I have an idea of how much work goes behind it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and going to check out your previous videos. Thanks. You have a new enthusiastic subscriber. You'll be my @DEFYN junior 🙂
Many thanks for making this, Mac! Your video is really helping me to play the 109 to it's strengths. Hell, just yesterday I was able to pull off a solo carry against five enemy fighters in my G10. I've never been able to do something like that before and this video deserves a lot of credit for making that happen. You got yourself another subscriber.
This video is amazing right now im struggling in the swedish air tree with the 109 and this is an extremely high quality video with complicated information delivered so simply well done and keep it up man!
Just commenting to let you know that your content is exactly what people like myself are looking for. High quality footage from a guy who knows what he's talking about and going through all the decisions he makes in a match, seriously awesome stuff man. All the more impressive with how young you are, congrats on graduating and good luck with everything you pursue.
This was very well illustrated and articulated, well done. I have not one bad thing to say and you play the energy game well! You made a comment about the F4 being sluggish now…if you take “Instructor” off you’ll become much more nimble and maneuverable at the cost of stability. You can easily stall or snaproll if you’re rough on the stick. It’s like flying a different plane allowing you to be much more aggressive. Someone like you could outturn a spitfire with the E and F using flaps in the right situations. Keep it up!
I didn't realize you were so young until you mentioned just graduating in a more recent video. Your presentation style is great, you're very articulate and you teach in a very approachable manner. I hope your channel grows and grows! Thanks for helping us fly better!
th-cam.com/video/gqGFz1YDEbg/w-d-xo.html The reason for this is explainable. You dont control RPM in manual mode but directly prop pitch. Meaning in a 51 if you control the RPM manually (which was the case in reality all the time) the prop pitch govenor changes the propeller pitch to achieve the set RPM (100% = 3000RPM) Meaning if you go fast the pitch is coarse, if you go slow the pitch of the blades are fine. In the 109 this is different. in engine manual mode you dont control the RPM but really the prop pitch. Meaning if you go slow and you set the pitch coarse (
thanks for making this video because 109s are my favorites planes in the game and your content is very good, you explain what you are doing like defyn. Very good content and high quality gameplay
I've just started getting back into WT this week after years of not playing. I'm very happy I found your comprehensive video as I left off after getting the F4 and F4 trop and I'm looking forward to getting the rest of the 109's. You got a sub from me, keep the content going, I love seeing the quality prop air rb content.
The prop pitch works differently because, with almost everyone else prop pitch controls the RPM of the propeller (except stuff like the ITP M-1). But in german planes the prop pitch actually controls the propeller pitch directly. So if you set the prop pitch to 100 on something like a P-51 , the propeller will set its prop pitch automatically to maintain 100% RPM. In the case of the 100% prop pitch on a 109 or 190 or almost any other german prop however, you will set the actual pitch of the propeller to max, which at higher speeds makes it turn at a higher RPM than the engine allows. If you have the engine off or at idle that's okay because the engine itself is revving very low, so the increase in RPM caused by the propeller is not gonna cause it to go over the rev limit. However if you do the same while giving the engine more throttle, the engine increases its RPM and does the combustion cycle at according speed, but with the propeller speeding it up further that will cause the engine to knock, combustion to occur at the wrong time, breaking/bending the crankshaft, destroying the valves, etc.
Dude this video is just what i needed, i used to be more of a Yak 3/ La 7 but i wanted to try out something a little more high altitude and the 109s always seemed nice and this really helped me understand how to better utilize the strengths of the plane.
8:10 If I remember correctly, the Bf 109s had automatic propeller pitch. The Pilots would change the boost pressure (in at/ata/atü [kgf/cm²]; 1 at ≈ 0,980 bar) and the prop pitch atomatically adjusts to set pressure. There is also the Ladedruckanzeige (boost pressure indicator) inside the cockpit, pilots would more likely fly with this indicator rather than prop pitch. Note: I’m not native English speaking and also not an engineer, so maybe Ladedruck is more likely translated to manifold absolute pressure in the context of a Bf 109 DB 605 engine.

Doesn't seem like it. You had to use manual prop pitch below 200kp/h, and put it to 70% (or lower if at higher altitude). This allowed the aircraft to float in the air, in the exact same way that Mac showcased, but since he wasn't using this trick it means that it has been "fixed" by implementing it to the auto prop pitch.
Yeah later 109s 4.7 and above, especially the k-4 have a problem where their engine goes kaput at speeds below 240kph IAS, losing around 1/3 of its horsepower
@@blacktiger974yes. That is because propellers lose efficiency at lower speeds. They kinda act like rotating wings and “stall” at low speeds like planes do. However, 109s have another prop pitch trick where below 250kph, you can turn on manual prop pitch and set between 64-70% prop pitch to pull thrust out of thin air. I recommend staying at exactly 64% to get the most effect without overheating and over revving the engine too quickly. You can use it to float in stall fights and it’s saved my virtual life lots of times
I just got my first jet. But, I don’t see the appeal for jet gameplay in war thunder. It’s so fast paced and missiles makes gameplay more challenging. Secondly, I feel like you have to unlearn everything from props, as stalling out people is a recipe for a missile.
Ok help a brother i play grb and got into aviation for cas but I suffer i get killed with just a small burst and when i shoot like there is no tomorrow sometimes get a kill I don't know if it is skill issue or I use wrong belts or shells or bullets so should i use he or armor piercing for planes that is
He belts is almost always better for killing aircraft. Find the belts with the most HEF, HEFI, or API bullets/shells. I use 600m convergence without vertical targeting, and make sure you are leading your guns properly.
I do play the entire match with MEC, yes. I find it more efficient, because if my engine is overheating I can simply open the radiators slightly more, or do whatever else. I can also do other tricks easier, such as the German airbrake.
