The apartment seems made for someone who was like "Man I can definitely squeeze in 2 more apartments per floor than needed just so I can get that FAT CASH CHECK!!!" Like bruh just either make it 2 per floor or 1. Like that kitchen part seems like a fire hazard with that 1 plank of wood barely keeping it up.
Definitely. The weird part is that it doesn't even have to be designed like that. 2-3 sturdy brackets would holed that entire thing up much better without adding very much more to the cost
This is still bigger than a lot of studio apartments here in Manhattan. And it has everything: a washer, double gas range, large sink, smart bidet, tub/shower with views and a mini-split.
That intro was 💯. For a short period of time, I could live in that apartment. Only stairs and no elevator is a weak point, and the entrance…. Well, in situations where you have to go to the bathroom as soon as you arrive to your apartment, this may be the best one 😂
This is absolutely amazing. I loved this special look at such a unique living space. You won't catch me moving in, but thank you for showing us! PS: well done with the cheeky 2nd Norm editing!
Back in the late 90s, I worked in Tokyo for 2 months and they put me up in a tiny apartment in Ikebukuro. I was certainly getting stir-crazy by the 2nd month in living such a small space. But videos like this give me fond memories of those times.
I thought the "square doughnut" apartment with glass walls was the craziest one, but this one might beat it 🤔. Awesome video, thanks for showing us more tiny apartments!!
I do love the neighbourhood and it gets a lot of natural light which is nice. I can't imagine it now but in my early 20's I would have been happy there.
Most people are absolutely horrified by these small apartments. Personally I wouldn't have anything against living in a space of this size. I think they are a fun design challenges and can be quite comfortable as longs as you live an active urban life and don't own a lot of stuff... You don't necessarily need a massive suburban mansion to live a full or comfortable life in the city, especially if the city in itself provides a lot of that additional comfort. I mean I currently live in a small studio apartment (by choice) in a walkable city, and it's great to be honest. Here, I have a co-working space for work, tons of libraries, gyms, cinemas, restaurants, grocery & convenience stores, cafés, parks etc. as well as a whole beach front. All within a 5-15 minute walk- or bike ride. If I could design this apartment I would probably want to have a desk in front of the window with a comfortable office chair... This is where I would probably spend most of my time at home (working on the computer, playing video games, watching videos) And when it comes to to sleeping I would probably build a slim horizontal murphy bed with a nice top shelf for plants. On the other side I would have a mirrored wall with and some taller green plants, to make the room look bigger and add some texture and life to it. I would also like to remove the washing machine as there are so many laundromats in japan.... instead I would end the kitchen at a 45degree angle. which would house a fold up diagonal dining bar for two people. The 45 degree would allow more space, interesting lines/division in the middle of the apartment while also allow passage when the bar table is popped-up. The bar space will also dual act as more prep-space. The biggest issue really is that the apartment doesn't have any cabinets or storage. This could be fixed with shelves and skinny storage solutions. But I am getting a feeling that those changes + murphy bed would be near impossible for a rental in japan, as you can't do anything with the walls.
That apartment is less wide than my bathroom, which already feels way too narrow for me, I believe I wouldn't even be able to rotate my manual wheelchair if there's any kind of forniture, let alone my electric one. Here in Italy that apartment wouldn't be legal at all.
@@telldo8016 I mean, I do agree with you of course. But at the same time, not all apartments have to be handicap-friendly. I live in an apartment complex which is "handicap friendly" (great for elderly as well), but it also happen to be well suited for students and young professionals since it has a couple of tiny studio apartments. I think it's extremely healthy to have mixed apartment complexes so that you will meet people from all walks of life. That's not always the case in Tokyo due to the extreme demand of affordable solo apartments.
I’m pretty confused why people dislike places like these. For me as long as there’s a place to sleep, shower, and go bathroom I’m fine. I don’t really see homes as a place to live but rather a place to sleep.
$450 a month for your own little tiny apartment isn't terrible for a single person or even a couple who doesn't have much stuff. In my city you can't even rent a bedroom in someone's house for that price.
The editing of this video was so much fun. And no, I'm afraid I couldn't live there. I wouldn't even fit half of my art supply collection there, let alone my Manga shelves.
Add a collapsible table and a laptop, and this would be beyond livable for me I spend 90% of my life in a room that's only slightly wider and even a bit shorter than this, so I'm kinda used to this size already.
Plus the AC, the washing machine, the smart bath and toilet, the modern designs, and nice neighbourhood, and friendly people. In a Western nation, I would not do it, but in Japan, this is very livable. I would like more space but price for rent in the city is insane, so I can understand. I'd like a more square shaped place though, but I could live there! I'd probably get a small shoe tray from IKEA to put in the front door area, to keep the dirty shoes away from the bathroom tiles.
I thought my studio apartment was small-but compared to that- I'm living in a mansion! Love your videos and I'm super keen to visit Japan! Although I believe its rather expensive even as a tourist.
My friend is Mexican-American and when he was in the JET program he got the NHK people once. He answered the door and spoke Spanish to them. They didn't come back.
Years ago a religious duo knocked and I thought it was an expected friend. I speak Greek and started at top speed with lots of hand movements. They were suggesting to each other what language I may be speaking. Finally, one said- "Let's go find someone who can tell us what she said". No religious folks ever knocked again.
I feel like it has everything a single person would need. Add some cabinets and a mini fridge and you're set. Gosh I wish I could visit Japan. Such an interesting place.
I think I can make this work, would prolly add some storage space above the bedding space using some galvanized square steel covered with eco friendly wood veeners, ofcourse I'll secure it with screws borrowed from my aunt.
It would depend on how much I was allowed to do to the apartment. There is a lot of wall space and a high ceiling, so if I was allowed to put up shelving, I could probably make the size work. It looks like there is enough space to hang a curtain in front of the bathroom to make it more private. If allowed, you could enclose the under-stove area or place some sort of storage under that. Hanging things is the way to go. It wouldn't be so bad if you weren't home most of the day.
I have a friend who has like a desk/bed combo where its like a bunk bed but the bottom bunk is a desk, i think something like that would do great here, especially if the top is high enough to still access the window from the bottom

that... seems like an awesome space! I get the feeling most people would hate to live in a space that small, but honestly, to me it would be perfect. no need for lots of big bulky furniture to make the space look full, and there isnt too much space that needs to get cleaned, i could set up a nice bed at the far end, there are some foldable boxes they sell at Ikea that would work fine for clothing storage. I cant say for sure if it is somewhere i could see myself living super long term, but i would be happy living for a year in a cozy space like that
Never has an apartment's selling feature screamed 'Institutional' more than this one. That's literally one hallway in my house. Loved the "Embrace the illusion of having furniture" marketing XD
It's easy, just expand the house by welding a Galvanized Square Steel then fasten with some screws borrowed from your aunt, lastly cover with eco-friendly wood veneer, this will be durable for 10000 years.
Watching your , brilliant, video, I was very much reminded of another video of another video I have recently watched! Limitations of space etc! Kowloon walled city!!
Honestly it's just lacking some galvanized square steel, a bit of eco-friendly wood veneer, and some borrowed expanding screws to bring it together and it would work really well.
lol I’m gonna block the words “galvanized steel” on the channel 😂 Feels like 10,000,000 ai bots have descended on the comments section with the same copy and paste comments 😂
I'm pretty sure you could fit a small TV in there it would just depend on the furniture layout. There are so many ways that could be made into a cozy little living space.
I'm an American, and I would live there. But I'm also weird, I've never liked having large spaces. I LOVE small living spaces. I've lived in an R.V.(or caravan for non-Americans) and I am absolutely fascinated with the idea behind van life. My first place that I lived on my own was a single room studio with a bathroom. Kitchen, living room and bedroom, all the same room. Not really sure about that place being essentially a hallway, but I'm sure I could make it work. Love your videos about Japanese tiny apartments.
When studying at uni I lived in a so-called Corridor student living with 23 other students. I talked to someone who had never studied at a uni and she was so shocked and confused thinking we literally had our beds in the corridor. A corridor in Swedish student terms is where each student has their own room and usually a private bathroom but shares the kitchen and common room. I had such a good time living in the corridor!
I can say.... if I was a roughneck working an oil field, it'd be perfect. You don't want tons of stuff to have to clean, take care of when you work 12 hour shifts every day for a month+. And being able to shuck down to bare skin and wash off before tracking dirt into the rest of your place would work great. (was there a floor drain by the toilet side? Or only in the tub?)
Norm loved the little appearance of you smiling and waving from the camera the window and the bathroom. Seriously strange configuration. Just out of curiosity does Japan have storage units for people with stuff that can't fit in the tiny apartments that you show? Interesting seeing the adaptations of the Japanese people to the limited space
I'd probably put a tv up against the window & have a sofa chair + mini coffee pointing towards it. Futon goes into the washing machine (whilst turned off) until you need it, thus saving space!

Like bruh just either make it 2 per floor or 1. Like that kitchen part seems like a fire hazard with that 1 plank of wood barely keeping it up.
Definitely. The weird part is that it doesn't even have to be designed like that. 2-3 sturdy brackets would holed that entire thing up much better without adding very much more to the cost
the editing in this video cracked me up LOLLL i never get tired of seeing these strange creative tiny apartments 🤭🤭🤭🤭
This is still bigger than a lot of studio apartments here in Manhattan. And it has everything: a washer, double gas range, large sink, smart bidet, tub/shower with views and a mini-split.
9:45 And it's quite affordable. 70,000 Japanese Yen = $450 US
Hun, It's a masterpiece that you spoke at this length about such a tiny room. success🤘🏼
That intro was 💯. For a short period of time, I could live in that apartment. Only stairs and no elevator is a weak point, and the entrance…. Well, in situations where you have to go to the bathroom as soon as you arrive to your apartment, this may be the best one 😂
thats me, 70% of the time lol.. so yeah deffo a win for me kekw
Oh my... that was intensely hilarious. You cracked me up so much the manner in which you presented this dwelling....😂😂😂
You definitely had fun editing this one! Great video 😊
My favorite kind of videos, house/apartment tours, you're the best in showing them, n yes id live there for sure 😊
I thought the "square doughnut" apartment with glass walls was the craziest one, but this one might beat it 🤔. Awesome video, thanks for showing us more tiny apartments!!
That rusty structure on the roof: in SE Asia those are for drying clothes, roof gardens, or water tanks.
EYYYT that intro is golden
hurt to film lol
Couldn't agree more
I do love the neighbourhood and it gets a lot of natural light which is nice.
"Horrified" isn't the right word: I'd say it's impossible to live in with any kind of handicap.
Absolutely fantastic editing. Very enjoyable watch!
Always up for a new tiny apartment walkthrough :)
always a good time~
A truer word then "walkthrough" has never been uttered for this one.
Not too much walking required for this one
$450 a month for your own little tiny apartment isn't terrible for a single person or even a couple who doesn't have much stuff. In my city you can't even rent a bedroom in someone's house for that price.
It could be a great way to save money!
The editing of this video was so much fun. And no, I'm afraid I couldn't live there. I wouldn't even fit half of my art supply collection there, let alone my Manga shelves.
O. M. G......
.... I'm hyper-ventilating just looking at it......!!
.... actually.....I was hyper-ventilsting as you climbed the stairs......!!
Add a collapsible table and a laptop, and this would be beyond livable for me I spend 90% of my life in a room that's only slightly wider and even a bit shorter than this, so I'm kinda used to this size already.
Lots of natural light and good airflow potential!
Genuinely where do you find these listings? I'd love to move into a tiny apartment. I love your tiny apartment vids, they're so interesting!
I don't know if the toilet in the front sells it or makes it unsellable. But it certainly does something
I thought my studio apartment was small-but compared to that- I'm living in a mansion! Love your videos and I'm super keen to visit Japan! Although I believe its rather expensive even as a tourist.
Love these videos!
More to come!
Yesss, more tiny apartment content; love these so much!
If by modern living they mean a place to sleep and use the toilet while spending ALL the rest of your time somewhere else, then they’ve nailed it.
It could use some galvanized square steel
😂😂😂
😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Come on YT, not even 😂😂😂??
I feel like it has everything a single person would need. Add some cabinets and a mini fridge and you're set. Gosh I wish I could visit Japan. Such an interesting place.
use galvanised square steel
And an echo friendly wood veneer
Borrow some screws from your aunt....
I am a new subscriber and I absolutely loved this video, it's so interesting to learn about Japan, thanks for sharing! :)
Expand it using galvanized square steel and eco-friendly wood veneers
This is possibly the BEST channel on TH-cam
Little John have plans for this
Awesome editing. I was cracking up!
Galvanized steel square frame
LITTLE JOHN HAS WORKED 20 YEARS FOR A 1x2 APARTMENT🗣🗣🔥🔥
@@simonebortolini635 EXPANSION SCREWS
I have a friend who has like a desk/bed combo where its like a bunk bed but the bottom bunk is a desk, i think something like that would do great here, especially if the top is high enough to still access the window from the bottom
Love the funny edits, great as always Norm
Does this apartment has Galvanized Steels, Eco-friendly Veneers and screws borrowed from Aunt? 😂
I’m just at the middle of the video and I had to pause due to the description of the toothpick legs.
I’m SOOooo hoping that you leave a link to the real estate agent’s description.
Thank you for sharing this tiny adventure with me and for making me laugh.
Much appreciated 🙂
🙂🐿🌈❤️
P.s I especially enjoyed the editing in this one.
Having yourself at the door, on the security camera monitor etc.
Very effective and very funny. Perfect ❤
Is that build from galvanized square steel
that... seems like an awesome space! I cant say for sure if it is somewhere i could see myself living super long term, but i would be happy living for a year in a cozy space like that
Too small? don't worry, just use galvanized square steel covered with eco-friendly wood veneers and screw borrowed from your aunt :D
I was looking for this comment lmao
Smooth edits. This videos is being put with the greats.
anyone gonna use galvanized square steel covered with eco-friendly wood veneers?
Watching your , brilliant, video, I was very much reminded of another video of another video I have recently watched!
Limitations of space etc!
Kowloon walled city!!
Honestly it's just lacking some galvanized square steel, a bit of eco-friendly wood veneer, and some borrowed expanding screws to bring it together and it would work really well.
Would that be allowed in that area?
@@koweedater/wooosh
Never tire of your brilliant apartment videos! 😍
*Grabs Galvanized steel beams and eco friendly wood veneers*
lol I’m gonna block the words “galvanized steel” on the channel 😂
Feels like 10,000,000 ai bots have descended on the comments section with the same copy and paste comments 😂
@@TokyoLensIf only this is in America, it might need those
I'm pretty sure you could fit a small TV in there it would just depend on the furniture layout. There are so many ways that could be made into a cozy little living space.
Shouldve expanded it with galvanized steel pipes
Would that be allowed in that area?
@@koweedate probably, if not use wood veneers, i heard theyre eco friendly
@@RJ-mj4sh are you sure about that?
I'm an American, and I would live there. But I'm also weird, I've never liked having large spaces. I LOVE small living spaces. I've lived in an R.V.(or caravan for non-Americans) and I am absolutely fascinated with the idea behind van life. My first place that I lived on my own was a single room studio with a bathroom. Kitchen, living room and bedroom, all the same room. Not really sure about that place being essentially a hallway, but I'm sure I could make it work.
Love your videos about Japanese tiny apartments.
Very strange apartment. Where's the galvanized square steel? The screws borrowed from your aunt? WHERE IS THE ECO-FRIENDLY WOOD VENEER?
The editing you did for the intro was pretty good! lol
They need Galvanized Steel!
Wait till em bluds hear about galvanised square steel
I would have a piece of plywood I could put over the bathtub and add some cushions to make a reading nook! That's the best spot in the house imo!
Haha glad you enjoyed it!
Storage units exist
But they’re unreasonably expensive
I might live there, not forever but it does have nice light, and i do appreciate a big sink!
I'd probably put a tv up against the window & have a sofa chair + mini coffee pointing towards it. Futon goes into the washing machine (whilst turned off) until you need it, thus saving space!
I'm addicted to videos of Japanese micro apartments. I've seen a few where the toilet is the first thing you meet as you walk in.
