Wow, his voice actually fits this song pretty well. Still not as dark and raw as the original, but I like this version. Better than Metallica's, definitely. :P PS, I don't mean to start a flame war or anything. It's just my opinion.
I agree. I have just listrned to the Metallica cover and it...hmm...hard to describe but didn't gave the feelings back. I like this one, it is more enjoyable but the best is Nick Cave's because it has pain, desire, aggression in the song and his voice is hauntingly ugly but beautiful in a certain way... You just have to feel it, ya know?

@FuellingObsession Its considerably different from Loverman, but I think that Jezebel is the type song that you speak of. The dark, sensual side of it, is something that only Mart could do. Very powerful song.
Each to his own, but I honestly think that not Nick's or Martin's comes even close to Metallica's cover of this. Metalica's vocals are just so much better and the bass/guitar combo they got going gives me gooseys

The original was a bit more darker and Cave's vocals are unquestionably more demonic than Gore's. Not a bad cover though, but it doesn't even touch Cave. This is coming from a big fan of Depeche Mode, Nick Cave, and Metallica.
Wow... I wasn't sure what to think at first... but damn if that beat and the Depeche-y snyth background don't take this song to another place! No disrespect to Nick Cave at all - he wrote it and it has awesome lyrics a great melody and a great all around sound. But this is really interesting. Cave + Depeche Mode = interesting and sexy.... and makes me think a little bit of NiN. I still like Metallicas version also. There's room for them all in my collection.

I can't understand how people can call Metallica's version 'tasteless' or 'generic' - better guitars, better vocals... It takes the idea the original was trying to portray and conveys it in such a polished way. Well, that's my opinion anyway... =P
