God bless Tony Clarkin… a true musician, songwriter and master lyricist. He will be sadly missed by many Magnum devotees…. Keep the night light burning wherever you are Tone!! 🙏🔥
I don't think they never were a hair band. I always compared them to more Toto or REO. They came at a time when hairband was at it's height. Had they been discovered 8 years earlier, it would been a different story.
Actually, I think the opposite is true. It was more a case of a serious band (melodic rock with a touch of hard rock and prog) being pushed by their record label to adopt the hair band image in a misguided strategy to crack the US market. There was a LOT of that going on around that time when MTV was so powerful.
How were these guys never up there with the likes of Bon-Jovi, Rolling Stones, etc etc.... They were MEGA! Even now... listening to their stuff 35 years later and it's STILL FANTASTIC! Bob has to be one of the hardest working British Rock Stars EVER! And he's STILL going! What a guy!! 🤘🤘
Because they were basic and had nothing that exploded in people's ears. If they were as good as bon Jovi or Def leppard then they would have got the same popularity. They were given music videos, radio airtime, concerts, the same as the big bands and still couldn't make it. That should tell you something and if not then I can't explain it any simpler
Back here again for the sheer brilliance of this song and the performance. I just love Tony's guitar and especially the lyrics The truth's not a curtain To be drawn back and forth It's a flame that keeps burning Everlasting Torch
I agree with every one Magnum are a superb band ... and Bob Catley has one of the best Rock voices ever just brilliant .. my band Multi Story Supported them 30 shows on the Story Tellers Night tour in 1985 I will always treasure that memory
First band I ever watched live, think I was 11 or 12. They were the first thing me and my step dad bonded over. That concert was probably one of the best nights of my life. I adore them
WAOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IN 2019, WE'RE LIVIN' DAYS OF NO TRUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU'RE RIGHT BRO, MAGNUM WAS A VERY UNDERRATED BAND!!!!!!!! IT'S A SHAME!!!! BUT I DON'T CARE, IS MY FAVORITE BAND!!!!!!!! "We're all living telling the same old lie" In these days of no trust !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great passionate performance as usual from Bob Catley! Tony Clarkin always looks cool playing great riffs! Tony is a genius of a song-writer!!! Have loved the music of Magnum for years! Superb track!
Remember goin to see them at the Glasgow Barrowland on this tour and them annoucing to the crowd that the song had just entered the uk top 40! The place went ballistic...dont even think the album had been released then.
Ur right themighty6 - Bob Catley such a voice - and Magnum as a whole totally underrated one of my fav bands when I was growin up with rock and of course am 40yrs old now but still lovin it all - cheers my friend. And I see we are closing in on the 20000 mark!
I quite like this era when Magnum went all "American " ha... At the end of the day its the tunes that count and they always produce great songs, looking forward to the tour see u at Symphony for the **ss up ...
Great song that sounds like something that Heart,Pat Benatar,Loverboy,Night Ranger,Robin Beck,Scandal,Patty Smyth,Bonnie Tyler or Foreigner would sing!
I can never find the Wings of Heaven version of this song - the slightly longer, live-but-almost-sounds-like-a-studio-cut version. It has that realy nice instrumental ending that isn't on any other version. *Tears hair out with irritation*
thanks for the comment, my bro use to call him bouncing bob, as he also moves his hands around when singing, And tony is a great writer. would love to see them live
anytime mate, 5 stars, have to heard any of there other albums? lots of great stuff, i remember they did a tour in germany, back in the 80s, I think your right they where on the edge of becoming big stars. The change in the music in 90s did not help, indi etc thanks for posting
Pray to the future
Look to the past
Face the accuser
Freeze in our tracks
So many children
Have fallen from grace
The door should be open
No scorn or disgrace
Keys have been stolen
Treasure is lost
Lesson is golden
Hearts have been crossed
So here's to the heros
Come one and come all
Without them well who knows
Well who knows at all
In these days of no trust
Evermore hostility
We're all living under the same old sky
We're all living telling the same old lie
In these days of no trust
And music recorded
Might influence dreams
But headlines are courted
By stretch limosines
Pictures of plenty
Are stuck to the wall
For heads that are empty
Brains on the floor
Can't take any more
Someone is shouting
Revolution is here
He'll climb any mountain
For his selfish career
The truth's not a curtain
To be drawn back and forth
It's a flame that keeps burning
Everlasting touch
In these days of no trust
Evermore hostility
We're all living under the same old sky
We're all living telling the same old lie
In these days of no trust
Cojonudo por la letra gracias saludos desde Málaga
Great thanks 😀

'freezing our tracks' and 'everlasting torch'
There was no better English rock band in the 1980s. Period. Very underrated. I wish we could have such great songwriting today.
Tony was a great songwriter right up until his passing earlier this year, a great loss for rock music and music as a whole
RIP Tony, So sad, a true master of his craft, sending thought and prayers to his family, You will be truly missed. 😔 1946 - 2024
God bless Tony Clarkin… a true musician, songwriter and master lyricist. He will be sadly missed by many Magnum devotees…. Keep the night light burning wherever you are Tone!! 🙏🔥
R.I.P. tony clarkin most underrated British band/songwriter ever!! 😢
Magnum should have been so much bigger
@@themighty6 They will always be massive in my house, I have been sharing their music with my neighbours today! Sad loss brother
One of England’s finest. RIP Tony.
This video perfectly encapsulates the "We're still a hair band but we're serious about stuff now" vibe of the late 80s
I don't think they never were a hair band. I always compared them to more Toto or REO. They came at a time when hairband was at it's height. Had they been discovered 8 years earlier, it would been a different story.
@@philliplandry4139 wtf are you talking about they were around before hair metal was a thing
Even though they are hair band but their performance is very nice
They were British prog rock
Actually, I think the opposite is true. It was more a case of a serious band (melodic rock with a touch of hard rock and prog) being pushed by their record label to adopt the hair band image in a misguided strategy to crack the US market. Very true, they should have been up there with them, such a shame, and yes they are still great
Because they were basic and had nothing that exploded in people's ears. If they were as good as bon Jovi or Def leppard then they would have got the same popularity. They were given music videos, radio airtime, concerts, the same as the big bands and still couldn't make it. That should tell you something and if not then I can't explain it any simpler
Please take me back to these days.
it would be great
Of no trust?
If only!!
💪💪💪💪💪
Most underrated band in rock history...
Back here again for the sheer brilliance of this song and the performance. I just love Tony's guitar and especially the lyrics

Cool the see Mickey and his showmanship, and skillful drumming. Great sound!
Living in the 80s pure heaven ,living in the 21st century pure hell.
❤❤❤ best rock legend....buna trupa😊
Based on their album sleeves I expected these guys to be full on, Hobbit-bothering prog, but this is some classic 80s anthemic rock 👍🏻🤘🏻
😂 cheers man, they are still going strong.
Great band. Hobbit-forming!
Hi all just a wish to say I hope everyone is well, not easy times these days, months years, keep strong, and keep listening to great music.

So many masterpieces. Love Bobcat in Avantasia too!
Loved Magnum. I believe they used to get a better reception than a lot of the big bands they used to support.
RIP Tony.
First band I ever watched live, think I was 11 or 12. They were the first thing me and my step dad bonded over. That concert was probably one of the best nights of my life. I adore them
Fantastic song, brilliant band!
Their new record Into The Valley Of The Moon King comes out in about two weeks!!!

I used to love this song and vid so much...wait, back in 1988 I think...those were the times...
In these days Magnum still rock on but old age is showing. In those days there was more energy & passion in their music.
A band that definitely needs to be played on high volume!! They have some super rock to blast out to us. I love the video too!
preparing perfect collection for a CD to put in my car....this one is one of the best choices :)

The lyrics remind me of the Brexit situation here in the UK.
Time should've stood still in the 80s decade.
