  • Traditional Hawaiian dance at Waikiki beach International Market Place, Honolulu, Hawaii. Wonderful classic Hawaiian dance performance. The ʻōteʻa (usually written as otea) is a traditional dance from Tahiti characterized by a rapid hip-shaking motion to percussion accompaniment.
    More from Wikipedia:
The dancers, standing in several rows, may be further choreographed to execute different figures (including tamau, varu, otamu, ami, and fa'arapu) while maintaining the hip-shaking. The hip motion itself may in some choreographies be synchronized amongst multiple dancers and may be further coordinated with the accompanying percussion arrangement.
The dance is with music only (drums) at a fast rhythm, and no singing. The drum can be one of the different types of the tōʻere, a lying log of wood with a longitudinal slit, which is struck by one or two sticks.

Not Hawai’ian as in Hula. Yes Ori Tahiti (Tahitian dance), and yes Ori is a core dance so similar to belly dance in that they use their stomach.

i wonder how old belly dancing is...i get the feeling its older than we think. I just googled it and it says 6,000 years... history and origin turkey and egypt: traces of it can be found up to 6,000 years ago, in some pagan societies who used to worship a feminine deity, to celebrate women's fertility as something magical.

This is not a belly dance. Belly dance is from the opposite end of the globe.
