  • In December 2011 the Ugandan musician Herbert Kinobe (www.kinobemusic.com) went to Burkina Faso, to study the music of the Sambla and Tusia. After having taken some lessons with Moussa Diabate on the Sambla balafon he wanted to see Daouda Diabate, the legendary grandseigneur of the Tusia balafon. Since there is no free supper even in Africa, he was requested to show his skills too. The musicians on this clip were:
Daouda Diabate, Moussa Diabate, Yacouba Konate.

It is amazing how they have made such wonderful instruments out of what may essentially be considered junk. And don't get me wrong the instrument sounds great but at least the balafon players i have seen so far have little to no concept of what makes music music! This is just pretty sounds with very little rhythm.
I would love to have a balafon though.

The wood is cut from trees that gives you oxygen to breath. Its more gold than junk man.

Watch any decent xylophone player and you will know how this thing should be played.

There wouldnt be no xylophone without this instrument. Have some respect. You have different styles of playing this.
