    One of my workmate is from there he said that during the search and rescue operations there were still people underground that were texting their family and friends saying that they were having difficulty breathing because there was not enough oxygen. i can't believe its 13 years already! This is just a reminder that no one beats mother nature!

    Drinking game! Take a shot every time I say "crazy" hahaha. This video is darker than what we normally make. While it is undeniably beautiful, we are looking at the location of a true tragedy. This is not a tourist spot exactly, but I still recommend people look into coming and seeing this place for themselves one day. There really isn't much else like it in the world. I hope you enjoy it and would love if you shared it to not only help the channel grow but also to show people this place and help spread the history of what happened here.

      13 years ago, it was a hearth breaking tragedy.. our company Philex mining corporation sent a contingent of miners headed by then eng'r. Joel Son to help in search and rescue operation but then it turned out to be a recovery operation. It was so sad that too many people perished that faithful day..so sad💔💔💔

So meaning, malakas at matindi ang nangyari dahil kahit sa mga neighboring town dinig ang ingay ng pagbagsak ng lupa. And i remember na we had schoolmates and batchmates na nawalan ng family na nakatira d'yan. God bless

    I was the VERY 1ST boots on the ground, as a Marine, to show up there and see the HORRIBLE mess, it was!! There was nothing but a little bridge to take them into town and we had to take a front loader across the bridge to get to the other side to continue to dig. The only thing, when I arrived, standing was a very small white shake where the badiea, that were found, were being stacked. They tried putting lime juice on it and it didn't help. I haven't been back since those days there, but this video makes me want to go back!!!!!!!!!

    I remember the landslide happened on a weekday morning. Hundreds of public school kids buried alive in school. Mothers and shop workers buried alive in the public market. Tragically, the well built school building and the market edifices held, so the victims did not die immediately. They sat in the dark and managed to text their loved ones who survived, begging for rescue. International rescue was swift but ultimately futile. One of the most emotionally scathing disasters I've heard.

    • @WeWander
      @WeWander  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was really crazy, honestly. It is extremely strange to have walked on top of where this happened and to see it all long after. Knowing what happened, you can feel the emotion in the air. It's a reminder of how fragile life can be.

    The bodies recovered were buried in a common grave at the poblacion cemetery.. (Town proper cemetery of Saint Bernard) At that time there were more than 2k people in Brgy. GUINSAUGON because there was a health related program that was held in that place.. So among those buried alive was not from that village...but from other barangays and from poblacion. Most of them were health workers..

    Sadly, I suspect the 5000 number may be closer. My dearest friend is a poor Filipina who lives in Northern Leyte. From her living conditions, I know that many people in a Barangay are what you might call "undocumented" but the Barangay system is to Westerners a peculiar system in which there are leaders under a Captain where sub leaders work to assure the well being of poor people that are ignored by the world. The kindness of these people is beyond measure.
