the older I get the less "Stuff" matters. I lugged my Mom and Dad's household stuff up and down the east coast, stored it ect. Finally I sold or donated it. One piece was my Mom's Hutch. It was a Huge piece of furniture.......I was selling some other b stuff inside the house during a yard sale. This Hispanic Family with 2 little girls were looking at it and the wife was looking into her husband's eyes to ask me about it. I said it wasn't for sale and they moved on. As they left the wife stopped again and her eyes were watery. In broken English she said her Grandma had the same one. Exactly. I could Feel my Mom telling me to do it. It was almost $3000 new in the Early 80s and it was mint. They had no money really so I said $25. I lugged it around 19 95 to 2014. They didn't have the cash and as they made a few calls to find it I told the wife she could have it. She said she wouldn't do that. She knew I was really giving it to them at that price but she had to pay for it. They found the $25 and I gave them a couple of shovels and tools the husband could use. As they left I told her my Mom would have wanted her Family to have it. She said she knew that. She said she is a see 'er and that Mom was standing behind me they whole time she was there. She also said my Mom knows I am still Troubled losing her and one day we will all be together again. We are both in tears now but they were Happy Tears. The Lady and Husband Hugged me and left. this whole thing took longer to write than live it. They were nice Folks......And I knew my Mom didn't care if I found new homes for her "Stuff"

The only stuff that matters to me are my family, my guitars and my family photo albums. I have a ton of stuff from 3 different inheritances and really none of it really matters. Hold your head very high because what you did was the ultimate gesture of kindness! I loved your story! Your mom looks down at her son and has a beaming smile ear to ear on her face!
I found an abandoned house in the country like this once. I think I found it before the vandals did. Food still in the fridge and dirty dishes in the dishwasher. But the strangest thing of all was the Christmas tree was up and still had presents under it. Even the fireplace in the room still had the stockings hanging. I went back to check the house again months later and vandals had struck. I noticed someone had nailed up a blanket over the doorway leading to where the Christmas tree was and when I moved the blanket the room was warm and there were embers in the fireplace! I got scared and got outta there! Lol! Must have been being used by squatters or something. I never went back after that! But I always wondered what could have happened to those people who lived there and why did they leave everything.. Oh if only the walls could talk :)

And apparently, everything including clothing and personal photos, was indeed left behind. I gather the owners were good -ole-boy Christian types; and with all those dream-catchers hanging around, they were afraid of something. Am I the only one who picks up "bad vibes" from this place? I suspect they may have been run off by a "haunting," whether real or imagined. Just a hunch.
They even left a half-track bottle of Pepsi. You catch that? That was one of the oddest things in the entire video. If I were there, I'd have taken a good long look at it.
I keep waiting for a person to be standing behind you and yelling, "Get out of my house!!" Very creepy, the creepiest thing I have ever seen on youtube, and its something so simple. Thanks for being so brave Carpetbagger, I couldn't have done it.
It is creepy. I used to totally be into Urban exploring until 2 houses finally put me off. One had an old man in it that some family had dumped him in the middle of winter. That one wasn't too bad. Called the cops to go save him. But the second one had been abandoned for a long time but it had tons of Nazi shit in it, a surgical suit set up and a locked giant freezer on a back porch that was running by an orange cord that ran off into a corn field. That did it from my Hobbie of walking around abandoned houses.
***** I know!!! It that creepy or what? And it looked new and well kept. Not just some old abandoned operation. (No pun intended) And there were many books about the Nazi's and posters etc. And we even came across a gun and a lot of bullets in one closet near the operating suit. I was with my boyfriend at the time and he didn't fear much. But once we saw that locked freezer he couldn't get out of there fast enough.I had never seen him so afraid! It was one of those freezers big enough to hold a person. And there was something SO ominous about that orange cord (for electricity) running off into the corn field. Why was it so important to keep whatever was in there frozen? We called the police anonymously. But they didn't believe us. All they wanted to know was our names and why we were tresspassing. We didn't feel comfortable giving out that info. So we just hung up hoping they would at least check it out.

Sometimes I wish the people who made these video's would take the time to look up the history of these places and narrate them. Who lived there and why the houses were abandoned. Did the people die or fall on hard times. Just saying.

Regarding comment about "own video below" that's a fine comment for a private video but when you are publishing it to make money, you have to think a little, learn video techniques, research and keep the camera in focus. However, in his defence, judging by his weight and breathing he may not expect to live long enough to do things like research.
Kind of like I thought. Someone lived there until they died and nobody did anything with the house. Kind of sad - looks like a lot of his family died before he did.

The Carpetbagger I wouldn't say they were just throwing stuff around. Their motive was likely rummaging through everything in a search for things of value. People tend not to care about making a mess in that case. The owners could also have done this while vacating if they were in a hurry to leave.
+The Carpetbagger Grandpa died, his kids and grand kids took what they wanted and left the rest. There wasn't any will and they are all still fighting about who gets the house. It'll fall in before anyone lets the other have it.
A lot of these houses that are left like this are foreclosures. My mom used to do work with a real estate company that dealt with bank foreclosures and I've seen a lot of homes left like this. sometimes the locks are changed on them before they even have a chance to get everything out. we've seen houses full of belongings, even important things such as wedding photos, pictures of their kids, and other very sentimental items. it's really sad... sometimes the company will pay to have a house trashed out and ready to be flipped and sold but other times they'll just sit like this... empty and full of personal belongings. it's a sad reality that so many people lose their homes to foreclosure. I wish there were more laws to protect someone's home from being taken from them like that. never get into a mortgage, folks :(
Two things about this house particularly stand out for me: The first is the lack of color; there is so much grey and brown. Then there's the way part of the house looks like it was put together in a haphazard way and never finished.
In 1981 there lived a husband and wife named James and Luella, who together had a little blonde-haired devil named Ruby Jean. She was a surprise baby to say the least, because both of them were 45 years old. Ruby tested them with her antics. When she became hard to handle, Luella would joke that she should be kept in a cage. A few years later, Luella became sick with cancer and began using a wheelchair while she fought the illness. This didn't stop her from teaching Ruby everything she could. Together they would read, cook, sew, or paint. Their favorite things to make were dreamcatchers. They spent a lot of time together, mostly because the kids Ruby went to school with lived far away in the suburbs. She was picked on a lot for living in the country. If only the kids knew how fun the forest could be. In 1993, when Ruby was 12 years old, Luella died. It was hard on James to raise a young girl on his own at 57. When Ruby was 16, she finally began making friends. However, they weren't the best influences. James couldn't quite keep up with her, so he sat in his chair most days listening to Hank, Waylon, and Willie, drinking a cold Pepsi, and petting his old dog, Wolf. James taught Ruby many things, but could never work up to the birds n' beez talk. He wished Luella was there. Well, Ruby became pregnant. She was 17 and it was going to be a boy. James decided to look on the bright side, he couldn't wait to teach his grandson to hunt and fish and shoot a gun. Ruby finished school early and got a job working the register at an orchard. Baby Luke was born healthy and heavy in 1998. Ruby moved herself and the baby to an apartment in town closer to her job and begged her dad to come. He enjoyed being where Luella had lived, but he wanted the best for his grandson so he gave in. He would move in after a few months of sorting the home and putting it up for sale. One afternoon, Ruby dropped James off at home after his doctor's appointment. Her dad seemed to hesitate at the front door as if he sensed something was not right. He opened the door slowly and began to step in - only to immediately back out and run back to Ruby. He took her and the baby back up the road in her truck while dialing the police. They met the police at the road and waited as they went to assess the house. A while later they came back and said it was clear, there was no one in the home. But there was damage. The damage was the whole house torn apart. Everything was thrown around, glass was smashed, dishes were shattered, curtains torn, furniture upturned, silverware and jewelry rifled through and discarded. James's guns were gone, as was his TV. Thankfully, they were the only valuable items in the house. Ruby had her mother's wedding ring at her apartment. Nearly everything else had been boxed for the Salvation Army. It was not a major loss as much as it was a mess. Ruby would not let her dad stay there another night, so they packed both trucks with his belongings. James's old bowling buddy would be coming for the wood burning stove. They didn't waste time getting out of there. No one was ever charged for the crime, as there was not enough evidence. Delays in the investigation prevented the sale of the house. By the time it went on the market and sold, James, Ruby, and Luke had moved to another city so she could accept a teaching position. A company bought the home with plans to raise it, but they declared bankruptcy. It still sits as it was left so many, many years ago. Ruby is now 34, engaged, and happily teaching english to 7th graders. Luke (blonde like his mom) is 17 and loves to hang out with his grandpa; fishing, listening to Hank, Waylon, and Willie, and from time to time they make a dreamcatcher or two for Luella.

I hate when other explorers go and trash those abandoned places. -.- And I'm not talking about the guy in this video. I bet that house wasn't left like that when the people abandoned that place.
This house belonged to an old lady most recently but an old couple at some point (note the two chairs, cane, single flat shoe, double bed) It is unlikely that any of the people in the photos lived here as generally people dont have pictures of theselves rather familly.
Great found, I think someones past away and no body cares about the house. I subscribed because you have a lot of good exploring videos and I will watch more soon. ;)
I agree jmarylastone it appeared to me an older couple had lived there and after the last one died people came in and stole the wood burning stove (heater for the home) and ransacked the house. Doesn't it always make you wonder why someone didn't clean out the home sell it and allow someone to live there rather then let it go to rot and ruin??? Sad when it is still livable. And all these memories left behind for no one...
There was a calendar on the wall located in the living room that was tacked on the wall.. that would tell you when this home was last occupied..Very sad & heartbreaking that the family did not return to save important items like photo's & personal momentos that belonged to the owner.. Unless family had no interest in saving the belongings of there family member that had passed away..Sometimes realitives have good intentions & pack things in boxes to save ..but more often than not those precious belongings get left and then people come in & destroy it all... :(
many of these old homes are full of belongings usually because the owner passed on and there was no family to leave it to, or the family was distant and did not live close by so they never bothered to empty the house and they usually aren't in shape enough for the house to be sold. I believe if someone wanted the land, they could homestead it for 5 yrs or pay any past taxes owed on it. Take the house down, clean up the yard and you might end up with at least a homesite or even some acreage!!! I would look into getting land this way for sure. a little hard work,a bull dozer, and some industrial size drop trash bins....just make sure you have it checked for lead paint first. idk, but màybe the fire dept could burn it down for training. much better than paying @$35,000 for a 1\2 acre with neighbors sitting on top of ya!!!!
I live way out in the country. I'm a fourth generation farmer who has relatives all over the county. It's really kind of sad when someone passes and their whole homestead just withers away. I know it's inevitable but, it's really distressing to living relatives to go check on Grandpa's house and find it's been broken into and ransacked. There is a fine line between curiosity and breaking and entering. We have a LOT of meth heads in this part of the country and If I think someone is in an old house on my property,I assume they are cooking. I'm calling the cops and I'm coming in armed and pissed off. I post no trespassing signs all over hell because I don't want to get sued by someone getting hurt on the property that they are TRESPASSING on in the first place. I mean c'mon, that place has a washer and dryer still in it. Ask the neighbors, look it up on the county platte map, do a little fucking research and find out who owns the place. ASK if you can go in and film. I'd let you if you did, otherwise I'd think you were up to no good and we'd probably scare the shit out of and piss each other off when I showed up with a mean dog and a shotgun. I know you don't mean any harm but, just because someone broke in before you did, doesn't make it right for you to either.
slowpokebr549 just had an issue with this myself. My grandparents home was always in need of repair but when my grandma died 6 years ago, my grandpa really let it go. We moved him to my moms about a year ago but his whole life was in that house. We took some things but only did visual drive by’s to check on it. Utilities were still on so we could keep the porch lights on to make it seem occupied. We had to go salvage what we could last week though because a group of people decided to take everything they could and destroy the house. They demolished the inside and it absolutely broke my heart to watch my grandpa find out that they did this to a home he shared with my grandma for 60 years.
The remote there isn't that old of a remote (I have directv and have that same remote), also there was a laptop on one of the chairs at one point in the video. Whenever I see computers in abandoned houses I don't know why people don't grab them, especially if it's a laptop like that and the power supply might be nearby (Timestamp: 3:42). Now, as a computer person I can tell you that's an HP elitebook 6930p or 8530p, which dates to 2009. It's not worth much but it might hold some of the owner's information which would be interesting to look at.
the reason for getting a computer from an abandoned house is to find some more info on the house's possible occupant. neglected to mention that in OP above.
In a house like this, I would have at least looked to see if I could find an ID of the former residents and looked in the sofa for loose coins and cash.
Why do so many of us find abandoned homes sad and melancholy yet we never miss the opportunity to watch such a video. I think if we knew all the answers of why somebody seems to have up and left, we would be disappointed with the answer. Many people have said they wished the walls could talk but do we really. We like to write our own stories, enjoy our own mysteries. So we take the bitter with the sweet and wait for the next mystery video to be uploaded. I'm a new subbie but seen quite a few of your videos. I haven't seen newer ones yet but will. Just friendly suggestion; unless you have consent from kin of the previous owners, I would blur out the pictures because nowadays it seems like people will sue even for the smallest of things.

I would say whoever lived here passed away suddenly. All of those pictures/sentimental items are something I feel a person would take if they were leaving.
Liked your video but would have checked things like dates on magazines or mail to see how long it had been vacant. I'd love to explore old houses but at my age, I do well to walk on level ground much less tramping through piles of trash. I subbed and you might enjoy some of my vids.
It's no mansion. But it always amazes me how people can leave pictures of their kids or babies behind. If there's one thing I'd be damn sure to take when I leave, it's those pictures of those moments.

It was one of those freezers big enough to hold a person. And there was something SO ominous about that orange cord (for electricity) running off into the corn field. Why was it so important to keep whatever was in there frozen? We called the police anonymously. But they didn't believe us. All they wanted to know was our names and why we were tresspassing. We didn't feel comfortable giving out that info. So we just hung up hoping they would at least check it out.

Sometimes I wish the people who made these video's would take the time to look up the history of these places and narrate them. Who lived there and why the houses were abandoned. Did the people die or fall on hard times. Just saying.

Regarding comment about "own video below" that's a fine comment for a private video but when you are publishing it to make money, you have to think a little, learn video techniques, research and keep the camera in focus. However, in his defence, judging by his weight and breathing he may not expect to live long enough to do things like research.

The Carpetbagger I wouldn't say they were just throwing stuff around. Their motive was likely rummaging through everything in a search for things of value. People tend not to care about making a mess in that case. The owners could also have done this while vacating if they were in a hurry to leave.

A lot of these houses that are left like this are foreclosures. My mom used to do work with a real estate company that dealt with bank foreclosures and I've seen a lot of homes left like this. sometimes the locks are changed on them before they even have a chance to get everything out. we've seen houses full of belongings, even important things such as wedding photos, pictures of their kids, and other very sentimental items. it's really sad... sometimes the company will pay to have a house trashed out and ready to be flipped and sold but other times they'll just sit like this... empty and full of personal belongings. it's a sad reality that so many people lose their homes to foreclosure. I wish there were more laws to protect someone's home from being taken from them like that. never get into a mortgage, folks :(

Two things about this house particularly stand out for me: The first is the lack of color; there is so much grey and brown. Then there's the way part of the house looks like it was put together in a haphazard way and never finished.

In 1981 there lived a husband and wife named James and Luella, who together had a little blonde-haired devil named Ruby Jean. She was a surprise baby to say the least, because both of them were 45 years old. Ruby tested them with her antics. When she became hard to handle, Luella would joke that she should be kept in a cage. A few years later, Luella became sick with cancer and began using a wheelchair while she fought the illness. This didn't stop her from teaching Ruby everything she could. Together they would read, cook, sew, or paint. Their favorite things to make were dreamcatchers. They spent a lot of time together, mostly because the kids Ruby went to school with lived far away in the suburbs. She was picked on a lot for living in the country. If only the kids knew how fun the forest could be.
In 1993, when Ruby was 12 years old, Luella died. It was hard on James to raise a young girl on his own at 57. When Ruby was 16, she finally began making friends. However, they weren't the best influences. James couldn't quite keep up with her, so he sat in his chair most days listening to Hank, Waylon, and Willie, drinking a cold Pepsi, and petting his old dog, Wolf. James taught Ruby many things, but could never work up to the birds n' beez talk. He wished Luella was there.
Well, Ruby became pregnant. She was 17 and it was going to be a boy. James decided to look on the bright side, he couldn't wait to teach his grandson to hunt and fish and shoot a gun.
Ruby finished school early and got a job working the register at an orchard. Baby Luke was born healthy and heavy in 1998. Ruby moved herself and the baby to an apartment in town closer to her job and begged her dad to come. He enjoyed being where Luella had lived, but he wanted the best for his grandson so he gave in. He would move in after a few months of sorting the home and putting it up for sale.
One afternoon, Ruby dropped James off at home after his doctor's appointment. Her dad seemed to hesitate at the front door as if he sensed something was not right. He opened the door slowly and began to step in - only to immediately back out and run back to Ruby. He took her and the baby back up the road in her truck while dialing the police. They met the police at the road and waited as they went to assess the house. A while later they came back and said it was clear, there was no one in the home. But there was damage.
The damage was the whole house torn apart. Everything was thrown around, glass was smashed, dishes were shattered, curtains torn, furniture upturned, silverware and jewelry rifled through and discarded. James's guns were gone, as was his TV. Thankfully, they were the only valuable items in the house. Ruby had her mother's wedding ring at her apartment. Nearly everything else had been boxed for the Salvation Army. It was not a major loss as much as it was a mess. Ruby would not let her dad stay there another night, so they packed both trucks with his belongings. James's old bowling buddy would be coming for the wood burning stove. They didn't waste time getting out of there.
No one was ever charged for the crime, as there was not enough evidence. Delays in the investigation prevented the sale of the house. By the time it went on the market and sold, James, Ruby, and Luke had moved to another city so she could accept a teaching position. A company bought the home with plans to raise it, but they declared bankruptcy. It still sits as it was left so many, many years ago.
Ruby is now 34, engaged, and happily teaching english to 7th graders. Luke (blonde like his mom) is 17 and loves to hang out with his grandpa; fishing, listening to Hank, Waylon, and Willie, and from time to time they make a dreamcatcher or two for Luella.

This house belonged to an old lady most recently but an old couple at some point (note the two chairs, cane, single flat shoe, double bed) It is unlikely that any of the people in the photos lived here as generally people dont have pictures of theselves rather familly.

I agree jmarylastone it appeared to me an older couple had lived there and after the last one died people came in and stole the wood burning stove (heater for the home) and ransacked the house. Doesn't it always make you wonder why someone didn't clean out the home sell it and allow someone to live there rather then let it go to rot and ruin??? Sad when it is still livable. And all these memories left behind for no one...

There was a calendar on the wall located in the living room that was tacked on the wall.. that would tell you when this home was last occupied..Very sad & heartbreaking that the family did not return to save important items like photo's & personal momentos that belonged to the owner.. Unless family had no interest in saving the belongings of there family member that had passed away..Sometimes realitives have good intentions & pack things in boxes to save ..but more often than not those precious belongings get left and then people come in & destroy it all... :(

many of these old homes are full of belongings usually because the owner passed on and there was no family to leave it to, or the family was distant and did not live close by so they never bothered to empty the house and they usually aren't in shape enough for the house to be sold.
I believe if someone wanted the land, they could homestead it for 5 yrs or pay any past taxes owed on it. Take the house down, clean up the yard and you might end up with at least a homesite or even some acreage!!! I would look into getting land this way for sure. a little hard work,a bull dozer, and some industrial size drop trash bins....just make sure you have it checked for lead paint first. idk, but màybe the fire dept could burn it down for training.

I live way out in the country. I'm a fourth generation farmer who has relatives all over the county. It's really kind of sad when someone passes and their whole homestead just withers away. I know it's inevitable but, it's really distressing to living relatives to go check on Grandpa's house and find it's been broken into and ransacked. There is a fine line between curiosity and breaking and entering. We have a LOT of meth heads in this part of the country and If I think someone is in an old house on my property,I assume they are cooking. I'm calling the cops and I'm coming in armed and pissed off. I post no trespassing signs all over hell because I don't want to get sued by someone getting hurt on the property that they are TRESPASSING on in the first place. I mean c'mon, that place has a washer and dryer still in it. Ask the neighbors, look it up on the county platte map, do a little fucking research and find out who owns the place. ASK if you can go in and film. I'd let you if you did, otherwise I'd think you were up to no good and we'd probably scare the shit out of and piss each other off when I showed up with a mean dog and a shotgun. I know you don't mean any harm but, just because someone broke in before you did, doesn't make it right for you to either.
slowpokebr549 just had an issue with this myself. My grandparents home was always in need of repair but when my grandma died 6 years ago, my grandpa really let it go. We moved him to my moms about a year ago but his whole life was in that house. We took some things but only did visual drive by’s to check on it. Utilities were still on so we could keep the porch lights on to make it seem occupied. We had to go salvage what we could last week though because a group of people decided to take everything they could and destroy the house. They demolished the inside and it absolutely broke my heart to watch my grandpa find out that they did this to a home he shared with my grandma for 60 years.

The remote there isn't that old of a remote (I have directv and have that same remote), also there was a laptop on one of the chairs at one point in the video. Whenever I see computers in abandoned houses I don't know why people don't grab them, especially if it's a laptop like that and the power supply might be nearby (Timestamp: 3:42). Now, as a computer person I can tell you that's an HP elitebook 6930p or 8530p, which dates to 2009. It's not worth much but it might hold some of the owner's information which would be interesting to look at.
the reason for getting a computer from an abandoned house is to find some more info on the house's possible occupant. neglected to mention that in OP above.

Why do so many of us find abandoned homes sad and melancholy yet we never miss the opportunity to watch such a video. I think if we knew all the answers of why somebody seems to have up and left, we would be disappointed with the answer. Many people have said they wished the walls could talk but do we really. We like to write our own stories, enjoy our own mysteries. So we take the bitter with the sweet and wait for the next mystery video to be uploaded. I would say whoever lived here passed away suddenly. All of those pictures/sentimental items are something I feel a person would take if they were leaving.
Liked your video but would have checked things like dates on magazines or mail to see how long it had been vacant. I'd love to explore old houses but at my age, I do well to walk on level ground much less tramping through piles of trash. I subbed and you might enjoy some of my vids.
