There are so many amazing songs they’ve done it’s definitely so hard to pick a favourite ❤️ I’m glad you are enjoying exploring their music. It’s equally hard to pick a favourite member 😅 I adore all of their voices and I love the way channyeol and sehun rap. EXO was actually the first kpop group I heard and I immediately started listening to everything they’d done so far and have loved them ever since. I tend to listen to more of their upbeat tracks generally as I mostly try to put on music that lifts my mood but their ballads are gorgeous and sing for you always makes me cry. One of my favourite ‘bside’ tracks is black pearl it’s an older one but the arrangement is amazing. I actually sing along even though I barely understand a word of Korean but it was their music that had me looking up words and trying to understand the way to pronounce them to sing a long better. Many years later I still have no idea what I’m singing 😅 and it’s probably entirely wrong but their music is stunning and as a singer myself I can’t help but enjoy singing their melodies.

You need to start off with the video "The Ultimate Guide To Exo" by Pastel Kookies. A very informative guide, explaining how Exo started off with 12 members. Six members were the Chinese unit that sang and made mvs in Mandarin (ExoM) And six members were the Korean unit that sang in Korean. (ExoK) SM did this in order to attract the Chinese market back in 2011, and it did well in China. But regardless all 12 Exo members made appearances as a 12 member group. Three Chinese members left by 2014-2015 siting that they were overworked and not treated fairly. (a reason why SM is highly hated even till today) So now that leaves us with the 9 member group we have today, with Lay being the last Chinese member. Lay is in China continuing his solo career until he is able to rejoin Exo again. This group is phenomenal in comparison to many other kpop boy groups. Their talents outshine others. As of today, 11 years later, Exo has been watched and admired by many of the younger groups in today's kpop music scene. Even Bts. In 2013 Exo's success exploded when these younger groups like Bts, Nct, Ateez and Stray Kids were younger. And why? Vocals, plain and simple. Exo's vocals attracted their massive worldwide fandom, especially online as hits songs became viral. No other kpop group sang the way Exo does, because Exo were simple singers, all singers, even the dancers and rappers. They love to sing more than anything. And they sing mostly love songs and pop songs, dancy songs and good r&b songs. They are known to do all genres of music except Country and Metal/rock. But they do easy listening, retro, old school crooning, electro pop, beautiful ballads, and experimental sounds. They balance their vocals with each other to give that great harmonized sound. Their musicality shows that they have been doing this for a while now. They are seasoned performers as of this day. They may not be the flashy fast dance, fast paced crazy rap styles as younger groups of today, with in your face music, but their easy listening music is just my style. And the vocals....that's the real reason alot of people gravitate to Exo. They are a superior standard. Also legends in the kpop industry. You wanna hear a beautiful song right off the bat? Check out the lyric video for "Wait", a song that showcases their vocals brilliantly, a soft melodic acoustic guitar and vocals....you will love it. But I would love to see you do a reaction to this song as well. It is one of their Winter songs off one of their Winter albums. EXO's "Monster" was released in 2016, so there are 9 members in this MV. Like everything EXO does, the story in the MV is another chapter in EXO's storyline and it explains a little more of what EXO is doing here on Earth. As the English lines in "Monster" say ... They're "Creeping, Creeping Creeping .... Creeping in your heart babe" "You can call me Monster (because) I'm creeping in your heart babe." "She got me goin' crazy." The song's called "Monster," so the words are about acting like a monster: "Don't be afraid, love is the way ... I'm sorry, you make me sooo craaaazzzy, you know you dooooo." Therefore, the floating watch and the car that is on fire in reverse, etc., I think -- on top of being a metaphor in the story -- also was supposed to be the members using their superpowers. And the snake, like a monster, mirrors the beat of the song, which kind of slithers like a snake as a metaphor for the way the guy slithers in and out of the relationship stealing warmth and affection from the girl, but in the end, leaving her cold and alone like a cold-blooded snake, etc. The snake is also red, which means that it most likely represents something to do with the the Red Force.
However, if you look up the English translation of the lyrics, you will see in the song, the members are talking about a girl and they are telling the girl that "You can call me Monster" because I know I am bad for you and I will ruin you. I know that when we are over that I will have destroyed everything that is good about you, but I don't care because I want you so much that it doesn't matter to me. Which could be a metaphor for EXO's connection to the heart of the Tree of LIfe. The woman in EXO's songs is often thought to be a metaphor and physical representation of the Tree of Life. That is why the members are always trying to save the girl or protect her, or they talk about being controlled by the power of the woman or they are worried about their passion destroying her, etc. It's EXO's job to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Force. EXO was sent to Earth on a mission to find the two halves of the tree and reunite them in order to restore peace in the world. The two halves of the tree -- EXO-K (Korean) represents one half and EXO-M (Mandarin Chinese) represents the other half -- were originally separated in order to keep the Red Force from gaining control. However, now, in order to fix all the things that are going wrong in the world, EXO needs to defeat the Red Force and find where the two halves of the tree have been hidden. Therefore, the story in the "Monster" is all about EXO's origin story and about how they are trying to stop the Red Force from corrupting humanity, while also trying to find clues to where the Tree of Life is located. Also, the majority of the choreography for "Monster" has to do with the members using their powers, so when/if you watch the dance practice and/or a live performance, if you know what you are looking for, you will see that each move is done for a very specific reason. The X they make to represent EXO is only the beginning of the story in their choreography. For example, D.O. has the power of super strength, so during his part in the song and choreography you will see that he waves his hands and the other members are pushed away from him or pulled toward him. When you see Suho in the middle of the group and they have a hold of his arms, he rotates his body around like swirling water because Suho has the power to control water. Xiumin has the power to control snow/ice/frost, so during one part of the choreography you will see that each of the members pause as if frozen as he moves in front of them. You see Kai slide backward and forward into the center of the group while waving his arms to represent him teleporting. And when Chanyeol jumps over Lay, Sehun and Xiumin, this could be him using his phoenix fire wings to fly, or it could be showing him leaping over flames because his power is the ability to control fire. Sehun has the power to control wind, so during his parts, you will see the other members shuffle around him as if they are creating a windstorm. And when they sit on the ground with their one knee in the air and rotate their bodies, it's supposed to represent a sundial -- EXO gets their power from the eclipse and their powers are affected by planetary and solar phenomenon, so the sundial is meant to represent the passing of time and their connection to the sun. (Even some of EXO's comebacks were released on days when we had a real eclipse or other planetary phenomenon, etc.) You should also make note that "Lotto" is a prequel to "Monster," so when you watch their "Lotto" MV, just keep in mind that what you saw happen in "Monster" is what is going to take place after or in conjunction with the events in "Lotto". How "Monster" and "Lotto" tie into EXOs larger storyline is a little open ended, but because "Lotto" is thought to be the prequel to "Monster," I think the story starts out in "Lotto" where the members have somehow infiltrated this big gambling ring and are undercover as they work to uncover a clue or something they need in order to accomplish their tasks here on Earth. I think the underground gambling establishment is run by a gang of bad guys who are probably members of the Red Force. "Lotto" is where we are introduced to a girl who is being held captive. And ultimately, I think what EXO are trying to do is rescue the girl from the Red Force, but they are trying to do it without blowing their cover or being found out. So, that's why you see in "Lotto," and continued in "Monster," the members are fighting against the police because the police have come in to take down the gambling ring and rescue the girl, which is also what EXO are trying to do. However, the members of EXO don't want to be discovered, so they play along as if they are part of the bad guys. EXO are supposed to be going about their tasks here on Earth incognito, and humanity is never supposed to find out about EXO, so they are trying to keep a low profile. As we see in the end of "Monster," Baekhyun disguises himself as one of the police and helps the other members escape from the back of the police van before they are taken to jail and/or captured by the Red Force, etc. (However, if you look closely, the members who are in the back of the police van are dressed in red, so the ones who Baekhyun rescued may be X-EXO -- EXO's alter ego clones -- and not EXO like we originally thought. Although I'm not sure whether at this point Baekhyun realizes these aren't the EXO members. Or maybe Baekhyun is also a member of X-EXO. Just another giant mystery we have yet to solve.) You also see Lay, EXO's Chinese member, crouched in the middle of what looks like a pile of people -- I'm not sure whether these are the FBI agents, or if these are members of the Red Force -- and I think he is checking to make sure they are OK and possibly trying to use his power of healing to fix things and heal the injured. Because some theories believe that EXO are traveling between time periods and dimensions, I think in "Monster" they also might be showing how some of the members are arriving on scene at different moments in the timeline of events that are taking place in the MV -- the members don't necessarily arrive at the location together -- as explained in their Pathcode teaser videos leading up to their "Call Me Baby" comeback. For instance, in "Monster" you also see Kai standing on or near a giant pile of people as well, and he seems to be standing over them. Some have pointed to this as possibly showing evil X-EXO Kai, who has done something bad, but I think this may be showing good EXO Kai, who has just shown up at that moment, observing what has taken place. Because Kai has the power of teleportation, he is the one that is in charge of bringing the members together and traveling between time and space, so I think he has shown up from a different time or place and is now trying to figure out what has happened, etc. In EXO's "Obsession" MV the members in the bright colored clothing with the crazy makeup and hair are supposed to be X-EXO -- EXO's alter ego clones who have been created by the Red Force -- and the ones in the black or dark colored clothing are supposed to be EXO -- the good guys. So, in the parts where they are dressed in all black in "Monster" I think this is showing EXO, and where you see them in the clothing with red accents, this might by showing X-EXO. At the time when "Monster" was first released, we had no idea about X-EXO's existence, but since "Obsession" -- which is one of EXO's more recent releases -- we have started to go back and reanalyze some of their older MVs, and it appears that what we thought was always EXO, may have been in fact X-EXO some of the time. As you can see, EXO's story is always evolving and changing, and just when you think you have one part understood, SM introduces a new piece of the story and changes the direction of the narrative. Also, in EXO's MVs when you see red light or red objects this is thought to be where the Red Force has control, and when you see blue light or blue objects this is thought to be where EXO has the upperhand. However, if you see purple or red and blue in the same scene this is when EXO and the Red Force are battling for control -- red and blue mixed together make purple. Unfortunately, as you can see, what makes EXO's storyline even more difficult to follow is the fact that nothing is ever in chronological order. So you really have to pay close attention to every detail, to even begin to make connections.
Choosing a fav EXO title track is an impossible task for sure and don't even get me started on the b-sides... Due to a few members leaving early in their career and also military enlistments over the last few years there will be anything from 6-12 members in their MVs but you'll get to know them all don't worry. Just go slow and there are some excellent guides both for the group as a whole and for the individual members if you want that to ground yourself. Getting into EXO is a long journey because there is just so much music :D But it is worth every minute and their music just becomes part of your life

It’s now 3 years since I discovered kpop and EXO, and ‘Monster’ was the first MV I watched (as it had the most views back then). Haven’t looked back since, and it’s still among my favorite tracks. But I have at least 90 favorite songs among their discography now, and I always keep an eye out for new content. Best of luck on your EXO journey! This one is often linked to Lotto. Yes, they are are brilliant in here, as they always are, but for me, this is a Baekhyun song. For a vocal flex, you aught to see Chen and Baekhyun representing EXO in the tv singing competition Immortal Song, singing Really I Didn't Know. It was very early in their career and even managed to shock many fans at the time with the amazing vocals. A little more up to date would be the stage set for the three songs Mama, Monster and the remix version of Wolf. Seeing them perform live is seeing them at their best and this set includes an iconic section of ad libs between Chen and Baekhyun.
Okay you want vocals from Exo the vocal kings. My suggestion is "Call Me Baby" yes there are members that are no longer with the group but we love EXO.

Even seasoned EXO-Ls spend most of the time confused, so you'll fit right in :) and 2) the line-up is going to change a LOT depending on when the song is from - is it 6 & 6 EXO-K/EXO-M era? is it unified OT12 EXO? is it post-Kris&Luhan leaving but pre-Tao 10? Is it OT9? Or is it 8 bc Lay is stuck in China? Six bc of enlistments? Or 7? Or the other 7? You'll be happy bc the music never, EVER disappoints. And they sing mostly love songs and pop songs, dancy songs and good r&b songs. They are known to do all genres of music except Country and Metal/rock. But they do easy listening, retro, old school crooning, electro pop, beautiful ballads, and experimental sounds. They balance their vocals with each other
to give that great harmonized sound. Their musicality shows that they have been doing this for a while now. They are seasoned performers as of this day. They may not be the flashy fast dance, fast paced crazy rap styles as younger groups of today, with in your face music, but their easy listening music is just my style. And the vocals....that's the real reason alot of people gravitate to Exo. They are a superior standard. Also legends in the kpop industry.

EXO's "Monster" was released in 2016, so there are 9 members in this MV. Like everything EXO does, the story in the MV is another chapter in EXO's storyline and it explains a little more of what EXO is doing here on Earth.
As the English lines in "Monster" say ... They're "Creeping, Creeping Creeping .... Creeping in your heart babe" "You can call me Monster (because) I'm creeping in your heart babe." "She got me goin' crazy." The song's called "Monster," so the words are about acting like a monster: "Don't be afraid, love is the way ... I'm sorry, you make me sooo craaaazzzy, you know you dooooo."
Therefore, the floating watch and the car that is on fire in reverse, etc., I think -- on top of being a metaphor in the story -- also was supposed to be the members using their superpowers. And the snake, like a monster, mirrors the beat of the song, which kind of slithers like a snake as a metaphor for the way the guy slithers in and out of the relationship stealing warmth and affection from the girl, but in the end, leaving her cold and alone like a cold-blooded snake, etc. The snake is also red, which means that it most likely represents something to do with the the Red Force.
However, if you look up the English translation of the lyrics, you will see in the song, the members are talking about a girl and they are telling the girl that "You can call me Monster" because I know I am bad for you and I will ruin you. I know that when we are over that I will have destroyed everything that is good about you, but I don't care because I want you so much that it doesn't matter to me. Which could be a metaphor for EXO's connection to the heart of the Tree of LIfe.
The woman in EXO's songs is often thought to be a metaphor and physical representation of the Tree of Life. That is why the members are always trying to save the girl or protect her, or they talk about being controlled by the power of the woman or they are worried about their passion destroying her, etc. It's EXO's job to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Force. EXO was sent to Earth on a mission to find the two halves of the tree and reunite them in order to restore peace in the world. The two halves of the tree -- EXO-K (Korean) represents one half and EXO-M (Mandarin Chinese) represents the other half -- were originally separated in order to keep the Red Force from gaining control. However, now, in order to fix all the things that are going wrong in the world, EXO needs to defeat the Red Force and find where the two halves of the tree have been hidden.
Therefore, the story in the "Monster" is all about EXO's origin story and about how they are trying to stop the Red Force from corrupting humanity, while also trying to find clues to where the Tree of Life is located.
Also, the majority of the choreography for "Monster" has to do with the members using their powers, so when/if you watch the dance practice and/or a live performance, if you know what you are looking for, you will see that each move is done for a very specific reason. The X they make to represent EXO is only the beginning of the story in their choreography.
For example, D.O. has the power of super strength, so during his part in the song and choreography you will see that he waves his hands and the other members are pushed away from him or pulled toward him. When you see Suho in the middle of the group and they have a hold of his arms, he rotates his body around like swirling water because Suho has the power to control water. Xiumin has the power to control snow/ice/frost, so during one part of the choreography you will see that each of the members pause as if frozen as he moves in front of them. You see Kai slide backward and forward into the center of the group while waving his arms to represent him teleporting. And when Chanyeol jumps over Lay, Sehun and Xiumin, this could be him using his phoenix fire wings to fly, or it could be showing him leaping over flames because his power is the ability to control fire. Sehun has the power to control wind, so during his parts, you will see the other members shuffle around him as if they are creating a windstorm. And when they sit on the ground with their one knee in the air and rotate their bodies, it's supposed to represent a sundial -- EXO gets their power from the eclipse and their powers are affected by planetary and solar phenomenon, so the sundial is meant to represent the passing of time and their connection to the sun. (Even some of EXO's comebacks were released on days when we had a real eclipse or other planetary phenomenon, etc.)
You should also make note that "Lotto" is a prequel to "Monster," so when you watch their "Lotto" MV, just keep in mind that what you saw happen in "Monster" is what is going to take place after or in conjunction with the events in "Lotto".
How "Monster" and "Lotto" tie into EXOs larger storyline is a little open ended, but because "Lotto" is thought to be the prequel to "Monster," I think the story starts out in "Lotto" where the members have somehow infiltrated this big gambling ring and are undercover as they work to uncover a clue or something they need in order to accomplish their tasks here on Earth. I think the underground gambling establishment is run by a gang of bad guys who are probably members of the Red Force.
"Lotto" is where we are introduced to a girl who is being held captive. And ultimately, I think what EXO are trying to do is rescue the girl from the Red Force, but they are trying to do it without blowing their cover or being found out. So, that's why you see in "Lotto," and continued in "Monster," the members are fighting against the police because the police have come in to take down the gambling ring and rescue the girl, which is also what EXO are trying to do. However, the members of EXO don't want to be discovered, so they play along as if they are part of the bad guys. EXO are supposed to be going about their tasks here on Earth incognito, and humanity is never supposed to find out about EXO, so they are trying to keep a low profile.
As we see in the end of "Monster," Baekhyun disguises himself as one of the police and helps the other members escape from the back of the police van before they are taken to jail and/or captured by the Red Force, etc. (However, if you look closely, the members who are in the back of the police van are dressed in red, so the ones who Baekhyun rescued may be X-EXO -- EXO's alter ego clones -- and not EXO like we originally thought. Although I'm not sure whether at this point Baekhyun realizes these aren't the EXO members. Or maybe Baekhyun is also a member of X-EXO. Just another giant mystery we have yet to solve.)
You also see Lay, EXO's Chinese member, crouched in the middle of what looks like a pile of people -- I'm not sure whether these are the FBI agents, or if these are members of the Red Force -- and I think he is checking to make sure they are OK and possibly trying to use his power of healing to fix things and heal the injured.
Because some theories believe that EXO are traveling between time periods and dimensions, I think in "Monster" they also might be showing how some of the members are arriving on scene at different moments in the timeline of events that are taking place in the MV -- the members don't necessarily arrive at the location together -- as explained in their Pathcode teaser videos leading up to their "Call Me Baby" comeback. For instance, in "Monster" you also see Kai standing on or near a giant pile of people as well, and he seems to be standing over them. Some have pointed to this as possibly showing evil X-EXO Kai, who has done something bad, but I think this may be showing good EXO Kai, who has just shown up at that moment, observing what has taken place. Because Kai has the power of teleportation, he is the one that is in charge of bringing the members together and traveling between time and space, so I think he has shown up from a different time or place and is now trying to figure out what has happened, etc.
In EXO's "Obsession" MV the members in the bright colored clothing with the crazy makeup and hair are supposed to be X-EXO -- EXO's alter ego clones who have been created by the Red Force -- and the ones in the black or dark colored clothing are supposed to be EXO -- the good guys. So, in the parts where they are dressed in all black in "Monster" I think this is showing EXO, and where you see them in the clothing with red accents, this might by showing X-EXO. At the time when "Monster" was first released, we had no idea about X-EXO's existence, but since "Obsession" -- which is one of EXO's more recent releases -- we have started to go back and reanalyze some of their older MVs, and it appears that what we thought was always EXO, may have been in fact X-EXO some of the time.
As you can see, EXO's story is always evolving and changing, and just when you think you have one part understood, SM introduces a new piece of the story and changes the direction of the narrative.
Also, in EXO's MVs when you see red light or red objects this is thought to be where the Red Force has control, and when you see blue light or blue objects this is thought to be where EXO has the upperhand. However, if you see purple or red and blue in the same scene this is when EXO and the Red Force are battling for control -- red and blue mixed together make purple.
Unfortunately, as you can see, what makes EXO's storyline even more difficult to follow is the fact that nothing is ever in chronological order. So you really have to pay close attention to every detail, to even begin to make connections.

Choosing a fav EXO title track is an impossible task for sure and don't even get me started on the b-sides...
Due to a few members leaving early in their career and also military enlistments over the last few years there will be anything from 6-12 members in their MVs but you'll get to know them all don't worry. Just go slow and there are some excellent guides both for the group as a whole and for the individual members if you want that to ground yourself.
Getting into EXO is a long journey because there is just so much music :D But it is worth every minute and their music just becomes part of your life

It’s now 3 years since I discovered kpop and EXO, and ‘Monster’ was the first MV I watched (as it had the most views back then). Haven’t looked back since, and it’s still among my favorite tracks. But I have at least 90 favorite songs among their discography now, and I always keep an eye out for new content.

This one is often linked to Lotto. Yes, they are are brilliant in here, as they always are, but for me, this is a Baekhyun song. For a vocal flex, you aught to see Chen and Baekhyun representing EXO in the tv singing competition Immortal Song, singing Really I Didn't Know. It was very early in their career and even managed to shock many fans at the time with the amazing vocals. A little more up to date would be the stage set for the three songs Mama, Monster and the remix version of Wolf. Seeing them perform live is seeing them at their best and this set includes an iconic section of ad libs between Chen and Baekhyun.
This song was my intro to kpop. This and Red Flavor by Red Velvet. Never looked back.

So excited for your EXO journey! Two things: 1) if you don't get the lore/even realize it's there, don't feel bad! Even seasoned EXO-Ls spend most of the time confused, so you'll fit right in :) and 2) the line-up is going to change a LOT depending on when the song is from - is it 6 & 6 EXO-K/EXO-M era? is it unified OT12 EXO? is it post-Kris&Luhan leaving but pre-Tao 10? Is it OT9? Or is it 8 bc Lay is stuck in China? Six bc of enlistments? Or 7? Or the other 7?
