The fight from my perspective
Early rounds Alycia controls the outside with jabs to the body then coming up over the top to the head. Even gets cocky sticking her tongue out
Middle rounds Mayer finally wakes up using her height and reach advantage with educated jab. Mayers adjustments seem to be a bit much for Alycia who seems to have the weight of the moment setting in. All head movement leave her like a deer in head lights as she eats jabs
Late Rounds Alycia adjusts her head movement and timing back. Here’s where I think people get confused. Mayer gassed majorly but was still coming forward pawing at Alycia who was landing the sharper harder punches. Zombing ahead and pawing at your opponent shouldn’t and doesn’t win a fight.

I don't think either of them did enough for the win, I would've called it a draw. Alycia definitely looked better though, so I'm not mad at the result. For anyone to think Mayer won is ridiculous though.

Mayer played herself the first three rounds.. 4 and 5 I gave to Mayer.. 6 and 7 can go either way.. 8 was Mayer.. 9 was alycia.. 10 can go either way.. the problem was Mayer only looked busier.. she left to many rounds to the judges.. I had alycia winning a close fights..

Random thought but I’d love to see ESPN invest more into boxing, in general. Not just leading up to these fights but the overall coverage of the sport. That being said, I think someone like Alycia would be great at sharing her commentary and being placed in such a role. Very well spoken, knows the sport and she is an attractive young woman. The TH-cam community does a great job of carrying the sport but ESPN or someone similar should really take a look at providing the sport with a better opportunity for growth. Back in the day the boxers were like superheroes. On late night shows, the news, etc. Just saying, it would be nice!
Boxing is mostly black and brown and doesn't really appeal to the mainstream, core audience for espn and its a niche sport, only casual spectators and hardcore fans

Though Alycia didn't hit hard like Mayer, she landed more punches to win the fight. I didn't like the commentators because they were all bias, and trying to make this win into a controversy. Mayer is talented and strong, but she didn't put her plan into motion in this fight, so she deserves that loss.

Well no rematch is a right call in my opinion. It's a close fight, but Alycia baumgardner come prepared clean shots better fighter today the judges see that. The skills Alycia showed believe in herself and beauty. That's a plus in my opinion.

Why do so many people think this wasn't a close fight? Wtf where they watching? I had Mayer slightly ahead but it most definitely was a very close fight! I wasn't surprised by the outcome at all. Alycia landed as many power hooks as Mayer landed lead jabs. She also landed the cleaner more hurtful shots. The compustats showed she missed far fewer of her punches thrown & she managed to land more punches on Mayer despite throwing less. The stats show she was more efficient & landed more punches on Mayer then vice versa. What were all these people watching? You better believe a lead jab ain't having as much of a impression on a judge as power hooks aswell.

Congrats to her but I can't lie the judges ain't get it right after the first 3 rds which she clearly won mayer won 6 out of the last 7 rounds in my eyes but the rounds were close mayer fucked up by not going strong in the 10th I think that cost her the fight.

But it's hard to be humble when you don't have to. But we do see a lot of people find humility after their reasons for arrogance are beaten out of them. I think they may become even greater at that point.

Sometimes I read some of the comments on videos like this before I make my comments. Usually, I don't really care...well, I don't care, but this time my first thought after reading several comments here was that "was this an interview of the fight I just watched or an earlier fight?" After checking, my next thought was that either these commenters must have either not seen the same fight I just did or they are like Trump's fans that no matter what happens, he won. Although a close fight, as this young woman said, she fought the cleaner fight. It showed on the other fighter's face.

Stylistically as a boxer I prefer to watch her and she is much more of a saleable commodity but she didn't win. First 2 rounds definitely, sharper, better movement but after that maya took over commanded with strong jabs, intelligent movement to keep her guessing. Its a shame the sport is mostly about money when we forget the fundemntals of two people challenging for greatness and stepping up. That kind of bad decision can make or break you as a boxer.

Technically a much more exciting fighter to watch I agree and there were times she would have an attractive uopcut here and there sporadically but Maya was beating her the majority of the time with heavy jabs from round 3. Go back and look at her when the rounds end of sit down with her trainer. First wo when she was on top she was looking him straight in the eye when maya started warm up and starting hitting her with heavy jabs she you see her whole body language change even when she goes to sit down at the end of the round she wouldnt look at her trainer. Also she isn't going to come out and say she lost lol and there's a reason why she won't fight her in a rematch which if it was close like some people are saying then you would want to do that.
@@wishbone1490 I agree she is more dynamic, much more attractive and appealing to the eye in regards to range movent But that doesn't mean she won the fight. She was out jabbed and looked good first 2 and maybe last round but the rest she was out jabbed, looked a little gassed at times and even the cleanest punches didn't deter maya pressing forward so clearly had little impact.

I don’t think she won but it was a close fight it’s not a black and white issue. Mayer was sleep walking through the quick 3 rounds and maybe even outworked Gardener, however the quick combinations from the winner and fact that she started fast slowed and worked hard the last few rounds won the fight. Clarissa started fast and kept it going throughout. Rematch would be fitting but she wants undisputed first plus women. 1 thing to note unlike the men in the sport the women actually fight and not just call out and play on social media
