  • We're going to build a 3D printed mini-drone with an FPV camera and high-RPM brushless motors. To learn more about this project, visit www.prusaprinters.org/how-to-...
    This little beast is suitable for both indoor and outdoor flying and thanks to our 3D printers, you'll never run out of spare parts :)

    Some people really doesn't know the joy of making things by yourself. Yes, diy things like things takes a lot of fixing and tweaking but the experience and knowing how things work and why they work are more than the money can buy.
    I like the vid by the way. XD

      one of the main reasons is alot of these props go through alot of r&d so even if u printed perfect props from say SLA or somthing or really low layerheight 100% infill PETG, The props probably wont be as effficient or powerful or good at turning etc etc or lightweight etc

    Fine work, great design! One of these days I need to get back into drones. I decided to pursue other interests when I felt my lack of a 3D printer was limiting my ability to pursue my ideas...but here it is nearly four years since I got a printer, and it's basically the one thing I _haven't_ done since!

    • @thegarageluthier
      @thegarageluthier 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Print in Nylon easier to print and cheaper than PC but just as robust not as stiff but shouldn't be an issue for a small drone. You can use Taulmans Nylon 230 that prints at 230 Degrees and a 40 degree bed just with a little bit of glue stick or PVA. Used it alot and works well.

      @@thegarageluthier Not sure nylon will stiff enough with this frame, the arms get quite thin at the hub side, would probably be ok with a brushed micro but I think the power of a 2s 110x is gonna cause flex issues on acro. Petg would be better I'd imagine, much stiffer but still impact resistant and easy to print.

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking more on the lines of support material needed and the removal of that support material. Im sure with dual extrusion and water syllable materials that you could get a propeller to print but i never thought that balancing would be an issue. Perhaps in a single nozzle setup youcould print the propeller in 4 separate interconnecting parts and you could weight each to spec to insure proper balance.

      @Prusa3D  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nope, it's safe - the spinning props actually cool down the motors and the battery was (after some really demanding power output) just very slightly warm to the touch. Plus, you can always print it with PET-G if you are looking for a more durable material. We printed it with PETG as well (it's the orange one at the end of the video) and the print went perfectly fine with default Slic3r PE settings. In fact, there was almost no stringing and the frame is quite flexible and durable.

    Question; How does one create threads for real-life item. I have a paint pole extender with male threads and I don't know the specs on these threads. Is there a way to create female threads to fit the male threads on the pole?

    • @jeremybuscay
      @jeremybuscay 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wrong place for this question. Next time try asking in a 3D print design group.
      But here we go...
      1st. Measure the threads thickness and how many threads per inch you have, if the paint extender's threaded part isn't an inch long, use .5in and then double it. Now you know your thread count. Get the other dimensions you will need such as the diameter of the threaded part (inside and outside of threads). Now you know the height of the threads.
      2nd. Pick your design program for this problem. Fusion 360 works great and can be used for free.
      3rd. Design your female end with the inner diameter (ID) the same as the outer diameter (OD) of the male threaded part.
      4th. Use the Thread tool and input your thread counts that you got from step 1.
      5th. Print your part and smile while you screw it together.

    Great Video, but won't PLA melt on a hot day, or when the drone is left in a car on a hot day?. Does Prusa have any filament that would be better suited, and can be printed on the Prusa. Afraid of using ABS or NYLON due to the fumes produced.

    • @johanneshass1614
      @johanneshass1614 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can try PETG - it has the high melting point of ABS but none of the fumes. PETG suffers from stringing (looks a bit like the fine strands of a spider web) but that shouldn't be a problem here. PETG is also hygroscopic so long-term storage should be in an airtight bag with some silica bags.

      Although the video shows an FrSky tx & rx, the parts list contains a FlySky tx & rx. This actually needs to be connected up differently to the video, as it uses IBUS rather than SBUS. The BetaFlight configuration for the serial provider needs to be adjusted accordingly too.

    The video is wrong if you buy and use the recommanded part in this guide :
    FS-RX2A Pro V1
    FS-I6
    HGLRC XJB F413 Omnibus F4 Flight Controller
    When in Betaflight, you wont be able to get the Receiver to communicate.
    I found the anwser buried in some post on Reddit : www.reddit.com/r/Multicopter/comments/7nbc1z/no_radio_input_in_betaflight_hglrc_xjb_f428_fsa8s/
    You need to solder the IBUS wire of the FS-RX2A Pro V1 (which should be yellow) to the RX6 pad(which is on the othe side of the board, not the same side as the 5v/ground/sbus/ppm).
    Then in Betaflight : in Configuration, its IBUS, and in Ports its UART6.
    This solution worked for me.

    Great project, but the Tello drone from DJI is still better. The Tello can run much better FPV as well, but you need a controller. The best part is that it has a 13 minute run time, can hover in place unassisted, and is programmable for around $80-$100 (extra for remote). The only thing that is poor about it is the speed, but with some firmware tweaks, you might be able to increase the speed.
