As somebody whose learning sea angling I just wanted to say thanks for this and all your video's. Been great to view them over the lock down period. Thanks.
Great video! Lure choice is is minefield. Last time out bassing I had 6 good size fighting bass. Today I fished the same spot, with the same yo zuri minnow lure on the same tide in the same perfect calm sunny day without a as much as a knock. Soon as I switched to a sand eel the bass were going mad for it. So good when you get it right!
Nice refresher as they're starting to show themselves again this year. The intro of you catching the beast is a video I've watched a few times, but will happily watch a some more, the excitement in your voice is so contagious. Keep it up.

I’ve been out about 10 times so far but no catches yet. Im sure with experience and a bit of luck I’ll catch one. Thanks for the content.
I often catch Bass when fishing for Small-Eyed does not matter whether Beach, Pier or Rocks they home on my bait all the time. I will often get 3 Bass per trip. Match the hatch is very good point. I remember meeting an older gent when on a LRF trip. I caught a Sand Smelt and I became his instant best friend. He asked if he could have it and where I was catching them. He caught 4 Bass to 8lb on the Smelt. The Sandeel he was using were being ignored. He was also very thankful for the drop net I had. Quick edit: Never ever rule out a self hooking livebait rig for big Bass. I have caught so many Bass when using that rig for Cod.
Nice one👍🏼 My tip would be to slow down your retrieve for the bigger bass. Not saying that’s the case all the time but a slow retrieve during darkness works well. Also, like you said, to always retrieve the lure right to your feet. I’ve had many late takes before and I’ve also missed many bass in the earlier days from not concentrating enough when working the lure all the way in.

Needless to say I've still never caught one 😂
Thanks, some useful tips, but I don't subscribe to the clear fly line. I've fly fished for trout three days a week for thirty years, and never had a problem with fly line colour spooking fish, whether its orange/black/white whatever. I can't see bass being any more wary than a trout that has been cast at every day for a couple of years, though I am careful not to let them see me. If it is a floating line they all look identical from beneath, and if it's a sinker you have 12ft of fluoro between you and the line. Those clear airflo lines flash more when casting too.
I’m heading down to Hayle next week and I’m going to try to catch one on the fly. I feel quite nervous about tides etc and how to avoid getting stuck. Is the surf worth trying or is rocks my best chance. Just getting out and being comfortable would be a start.
It depends on the type of rocks and you will catch in the surf at times. All depends on conditions as you know casting a fly. Maybe take a look at your venue with a flooding tide before fishing so you can work out the hazards. The other alternative might be fishing the ebb as water funnels out of the gulleys with something like the flexo sand crab in olive, it’s just what the bass expect to see!
Saltwater Angler thank you. That’s great I will give that a go. My first thought was to go down and just have a look. I’m excited to have a go and see what happens. Just good to be out too. Really appreciate the advice
How to catch bass in a river mouth? Surely the best place? The funnel neck for rich river feeding grounds but how? Ever only ever managed a at the mouth of the deben on miinow, dexter wedge, yann. Never any real size.
Start by seeking out potential spots at low tide. Look for gulleys rock and under water reefs and sandbanks. Fish that tide up from low tide, high tide and down. Note when the fish are caught repeat and refine. Eventually you will build a map and understanding of what the fish might be up to.
SpyroMatick here in Cornwall if I’m beach fishing, I find the last 3 hrs of the outgoing tide best especially on a spring tide. That means down here fishing from dark until about 1am. Another point to make is don’t fish rough seas, you’ll never reach the fish ! Ideal is about 3waves no more than 2-3ft in size and drop your bait just behind where the waves are breaking.
All depends where and how you are fishing for them. Where about a are you intending to fish because that will dictate the tackle that can range from a fly rod through estuary rods to beach casting with multipliers.
@@SaltwaterAngler I fish mainly round the East/West Wittering area using a small entry level pier type rod, using rag-worm. I would like to get into using lures more as it looks like a blast.
Live prawn can kill! Fish into rock pools as the tide starts to flood into them. Might only have a few inches of water going in but the bass want in as fast as possible.
It’s all I’ve got ! In many ways it’s easier to have the odd lucky catch. The top Angler’s I know will catch 4-7lb fish consistently that takes more skill and adapting tactics
Saltwater Angler haha, maybe I’ll get one when going after some mackerel.. one of the only fish I can catch! Live in southeast Devon so should be loads of bass to catch!

I like this one. Savage gear roadrunner also.
Thanks for the info mate
Really nice video, thanks once again! 👍
Live prawn can kill! Fish into rock pools as the tide starts to flood into them. Might only have a few inches of water going in but the bass want in as fast as possible.
Top bait that live Prawn
Nice video , like from indonesia freand
Thanks for visiting
Simple fish more catch more!
You always refer to that 12lb
bass I don’t blame you
It’s all I’ve got ! In many ways it’s easier to have the odd lucky catch. The top Angler’s I know will catch 4-7lb fish consistently that takes more skill and adapting tactics
I need to find the video “how to catch ANY bass in 2020” never managed to get even a tiddler
Try targeting ANOTHER fish that’s when a bass will come along instead !
Saltwater Angler haha, maybe I’ll get one when going after some mackerel.. one of the only fish I can catch! Live in southeast Devon so should be loads of bass to catch!
Dr vernoncoleman you tube great videos and integrity
