Wow you saved the day! My vacuum had lost its suction even though it had not been used very much. I had already replaced it with a Sharky which is so much better than the Hoover IMO. So I tried to donate the Hoover to the local thrift store but they refuse to take non working appliances. I was stuck agonizing over how to get rid of it. I mean I would have to pay to take it to the dumps! It finally dawned on me that YT must have a video on how to troubleshoot vacuums, I mean there is a video on everything else in life so why not vacuums? Lo and behold, there you were! Once you got to the “satisfying” part the clog, I knew that had to be it. I had already replaced belt and filter. Now I have a perfectly functioning vacuum which will be dedicated to my sewing room. The thrift store just lost out! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us. So appreciated!
You are a star! I was about to throw the vacuum away but you have taught me how to extend its life. That sneaky hidden filter was a revelation. Thank you so very much.
Omg.... I can barely use a screwdriver and I unclogged the hose by myself!!!!! So informative. I used a plastic stick to unclog drains and out came a pen and a bunch of junk. Thank you thank you
This fixed my vaccine perfectly. Was exactly what I needed. Take your time watching this it’ll really be the reason you don’t have to spend 100 for a new one
Super helpful and thorough. I did most of the other checks, even replaced a gasket that was torn. But did not think to even do the drop test, which showed me just how extensive my clog was (rabbit fur!!) Thanks so much for walking through the entire process.
I had cleaned out dirt cup and washed our reusable filter but still not sucking up! This was an amazing video tutorial. Wish I could share the picture of all the dog hair clogs and cardboard pieces we freed up in the hose with your directions. Thx Vacuum MD!
So I took the hose off like you said, and it was loaded! All because of a folded up post it note that couldn’t get around the corner of the hose and then about half a bucket of dirt came out that had built up behind it! Wow! Back in business! Thanks so much. 🤗
After checking both filters I watched this video. The little toys that were in the tube was the culprit. Thank you, I hadn't though to take the hose apart until I saw your video!
Thank you so much for this! I usually would have my husband take it apart, but I realized I could do it! I can't believe how much there was clogging up the hose when I took it off.
I took apart my vacuum and have watched 3 videos now. THANK You for having a well lit picture of the vacuum that you are working on I really just needed a good picture of the back to put it back together. I also learned where the other photo is.😊
Hi Kimberly! This video was so helpful and educational. Thank you so much for explaining it so well. I was wondering why my Hoover Windtunnel wasn't picking up dirt and cat fur. It actually had a clog. Greetings from sunny California! 😊
Excellent. My wife said the vacuum was spitting dirt out the back. I went through every step and found a massive amount of hair and debris in the hose after removing it and using a straightened out wire clothes hanger to pass through and pull the debris balls out. Thank you, Miss.
I just looked up your store. Boca Raton? You must be a transplant from up north. Minnesota? Wisconsin? That accent sure doesn’t sound southern! Regards, again, for your tutorial. A+
Well, yes, I am. My Dad went to UA so he raised me a Bama fan. However, in my later years my passion has softened. And my grandson is a huge Auburn/Cincinnati fan!
You explained this so well! I have tried to talk on camera and it is not as easy as you made it look. Such a helpful video! My Hoover stopped working. Hopefully 2 new filters will get it working again.
My vacuum is less than 3 months old and wasn't sucking. There's an indicator that tells me if the filter needs to be cleaned or to check for clogs. I didn't know about the HEPA filter but it was clean and I did clean the one in the top. I ended up having to remove the hose and found the clog! Now it's running perfectly! Thank you Vac MD for this great tutorial! 😁
I bought two new filters...still no sucking. Then I did your step by step. Belt was fine and I could drop a screw down the "easy" hose. Then came the moment of truth: I detached the bendy-hose at the bottom/end of the stream. It had a solid mass of compacted dust and dirt and cat-hair and whatever! I used the same manual Phillips-head screwdriver used to pop the hood as well as the $1.25 plastic drain clearer(I keep one in each bathroom!), so I didn't have to buy anything to clear the machine! You were right: "It's is so satisfying" somehow to clear the airstream! Voila!
Excellent video! Not a bunch of details about your personal life or what kind of coffee your drinking this morning - straight to the point and very thorough. I could not find the clog and did not want to take the hose off because it seemed clear. After watching you work I decided to remove the hose and the clog was right where you said it would be! Works beautifully again!
Thank you! I just it at a garage sale for $5. Now I know why. It had a monster clog. Took over an hour to get unclogged. I just didn't know how to disconnect the hose. Now it works like a champ.
Thank you so much, my vacuum stopped working and I drove myself nuts all day trying to fix it and was about to give up and take it to the repair shop until I stumbled across your video. I didn't have all the fancy tools just a Phillips screwdriver, took the hose off and smacked it on the ground until I was able to work the clog down to wear I could pull it out with my fingers, cleared it and now it works wonderful. Also didn't know about that bottom filter, will keep an eye on that thanks for the tip.
VacMD, I made a coat hanger tool, bent 90 degrees at one end to go fishing for dust bunnies. My 2021 Wind Tunnel Rewind has a charcoal, high density foam that can be washed and dried over night. The blue filter at the intake to the wind tunnel can also be washed. Seems like Hoover TI listens and change their design. The drive belt stretches to save the motor from burning up or destroying a roller with frozen bearings (both expensive parts).
Hey Vac MD when my Aunt had The Orange version of that Hoover Wind tunnel 2 Rewind I went to The extreme in cleaning it out that means I washed both hoses out and I also took apart the cyclonic filter assembly and washed it and the dirt cup and I even washed the hood's underside and the top too even the whole bottom and I used a leafblower to clean the Hepa Media Filter out and that's how I fixed my Aunt's Orange version of that Hoover WindTunnel 2 Rewind!
There was an entire TISSUE stuck in the hose of my vacuum! It was driving me bananas trying to figure out what was the issue, but thanks to your video I was able to check everything & I think fix the problem. Now to reassemble 😅 thanks so much!!!!
Thank you Kimberly I was looking for a video on how to best maintain my vacuum cleaner especially since I abuse it. This answered all the questions I had.
Thank you so much! I’ve just managed to unblock my vacuum cleaner - dropped the nail down the hose and found a blockage and had to use the long handle of a dusting instrument to force through a blockage and now have a working vacuum again
My vacuum just quit working and I did not even know that bottom filter was there.Thank you for the video. Hopefully it will come back on when it cools off. The hose was clogged so gonna take shields of and clean it out.😊
Thanks! The couple who clean our house had sucked a microfiber rag into that hose S before but I'd forgotten about fixing that. You reminded me where and how to get it out when they blocked it this time. Much appreciated.
Super helpful. I didn’t even think about checking further down in the hose. I just washed the dirt cup and that top filter the bottom filter thankfully still looked nice and clean. I’ve got long hair so it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s caused a clog along with other things.

@@kimberly.thomason I didn't have that long tool to clean the hose, so I took apart a wire hanger and that worked well and then I took the hose outside and squirted water through it 'til I could see out the other side.
Great video. Like most, I did not know of that lower filter. I have an issue where the clear cannister fits against the pipe transfer. It is supposed to squeeze the little bellows to make a seal when you click the cannister back on. Mine has about a 1/8" gap. I have looked to see everything is in place as it should be but, as it is less suction is going to the base. Any suggestions, please?
Eeeck! I was vacuuming around edge of a skirted chair when I hear a pop. Turns out it was sucked up a gallon water jug lid! I saw in in there Drat! I almost had it. As I got to my feet I was preoccupied thinking what I had to reach in far enough into the hose. CRAPPOLA, not paying attention I turned it on. Wowza do you have a pdf of direction so I know what needs unscrewing please?
Ever sooo impressed with your handiness and your informative video. Bravo! I thought this looks like I ciould do this. Eureka took 2 screws off & dime & water jug cap had come out at sometime w/ o me realizing it had. 2 fun knee! When I gave up going to work on it again tomorrow, I stood up only to discover they were goodly stuck where I had been sitting on them. Chuckling happily I put it back together only to discover it has no suction, what now please?
I’d like to say Thank You! Very thorough I could ask for a better step by step. It was satisfying as you mentioned, and more satisfying that I fixed my moms vacuum. My warmest regards❤️
If u think that the Hoover has a lot of curves wait until u come across a Kenmore Direct Drive InteliClean(if u haven't already) Insanely long hose coupled with lots of bends and a nice bend where it enters the housing. Apparently these vacuums are notorious for clogs in the hose which is what I encountered. Not complaining as it only took me 2 minutes or so and now it works like a champ.
Damn you're good! So I opened up everything, checked roller, cleaned out hose thoroughly, and still suction was... [not] sucky... so I checked the top filter, which I was so sure I'd just cleaned a couple months ago, and it was FILTHY! Time for replacements. (Your description lacks those actual links though...)
There are so many different filters for these models, it would be hard to link the correct one. I will figure something out though. Thank you for the suggestion!
Thanks. I did not know there was a second filter and I've had this thing for about four years. Yikes. I was ready to buy a new one instead I'm spending $20 at amazon.
Thanks for your clear help! You mentioned in the video how some vacuums have other advantages (like not a lot of turns in the vacuum tubing, etc.). Can you recommend any reasonably priced vacuums that meet those standards?
Oreck commercial upright is fabulous… www.amazon.com/dp/B001NDNV18/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_GEPAB5PZF9S4818XWR11?linkCode=ml2&tag=vacmdboca-20 If you need one with tools on-board then I like: www.amazon.com/dp/B08YKGN9VY/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_74ZG2CRFBJE4M13PCKH8?linkCode=ml2&tag=vacmdboca-20
It’s so weird because when our Hoover Windtunnel pet vacuum works it vacuums up a lot of pet hair & dirt they track in but both filters are clean as a whistle & have never needed cleaning. Our issue is the hose works but the floor suction works only “sometimes “; we have zero carpet. Any suggestions? Thanks!
My Hoover Wind Tunnel has never been that dirty! It is a year old but looks new. It is not a good vac! Picks up fine dust and dirt but leaves behind pieces of fuzz and gathers up 6 -7 inch hairs and leaves it in big clumps on short pile carpeting. All hoses and ports have been checked, filters are new. Suction is awesome for the attachment part but not so great where the brush spins. My previous vac was a dirt devil. It would draw the carpet right up from the floor!
I recently got the hoover for my parents, i hope this doesnt give them as much problems as the shark i gave them. I had to return it and got this for them. They didnt like swivel design and im glad hoover still makes the more traditional designs. Was between this or eureka, luckly store had some hoovers so i didint need go online to order it.
Have this vacuum and good tips in searching for a new vacuum. Since you work with vacuums all the time, which models do you recommend? I like how you pointed out the lines in the carpet and if a vacuum cleaner has a lot of curves. So which models do you recommend
It fascinates me that people are unaware of their filters and if they should be cleaned. Bagless takes more maintenance which is why a bagged system is so much better. You’re literally just throwing it away. They’re also much better at HEPA filtration. The industry really did a number on the consumer claiming “no bags to buy” well you still have to purchase filters and maintain your machine in order to keep the suction going. Bring back more bagged uprights!! 😅
I've removed all clogs from the hose but the hose doesn't seem to have any suction, but the bottom part picks up dust off the carpet. Note: I see what happened. About 3 years ago, the power switch broke, so I had to do some work on that (simply bypassing it). The dirt trap big compartment in back has a nozzle that hooks into it, and the screws on the back panel were not tight enough to make them a tight fit.
What happened when you flipped the switch? Did it just not power the vacuum on? Cuz the switch on ours just crapped out unless the entire vacuum just stopped working 🤔 We plug it in and flip the switch and nothing happens, regardless of the outlet used
Great video! Helpful tips for the incoming vacuum shopping we may be doing! Can you recommend any trouble shooting that can be done for a hoover windtunnel pet (high capacity) that was working fine literally one minute, but then turned off the next and will not power back on when the switch is flipped, regardless of the outlet, and having cleaned all the filters and checking inside where the belt goes. (although we have been using it without a belt just with the hose and attachments for furniture, as the belt ended up breaking) Any troubleshooting advice would be much appreciated!
@@kimberly.thomason after opening the wire compartment and doing some more investigating, it seems like the wires plugged into the switch look fried. If you'd like to take a look I uploaded images of what it looks like to a folder on Google drive- drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Ce6cTi73SnsNrNYT-TvNuNuJBjjkPbkg I'm thinking maybe I can just trim the fried bits off and reconnect it? I am not sure if the whole original wire connection will need replacing 🤔
I have a Hoover UH71250 and when I unlatched the hose, hairballs and dirt fell out. I haven’t cleaned out the hose because I noticed a possible design problem, that was not mentioned in your video. Thought I would point it out, incase you wanted to mention it later. OR maybe it isn’t a design problem and by simply cleaning the hose, and restarting the machine, the seal will close. It is the seal next to the cup opening at the end of the hose. It’s on the corner, making it hard to close. I wish I could send a photo but I can’t.
Our problem is that the switch suddenly stopped working. And it was right after we cleaned out the hose! However we have never changed the belt. Perhaps that would make the switch suddenly stop? I will get a new belt, for starters. Great video. Thanks kate
I agree...so satisfying when the vacuum is clean and runs like a champ LoL. Usually clean mine often with compressed air outside the house. They run sweet and last for years. Great video on the Hoover, thanks. Had a Bissell then a Dyson and now this new used Hoover p.a.w.s. Subscribed😊
Hello from Ohio. I have the blue anniversary edition and have taken good care of it over the years. One thing that it inconsistent is the Green/ Red "clean/dirty " light. I know the flat sound sensor cover inside the hose hook up needs to be cleaned but are you aware of any other steps? The reason I ask is the red light sometimes takes forever to go out even when your not rolling the unit over a dirty area. Thanks!
From what I have experienced with Hoover through the years…the “technology” in these units is not the best or most accurate. I don’t truly believe they are detecting dirt. Sometimes it’s more just for brush roll speed but the manufacture calls it “dirt sensing.” I wouldn’t be super concerned about it. I’ve seen the parts inside and nothing looks like an actual sensor or circuit board.
Mine stopped having suction. Cleared every obstruction I could find, made sure the brush area was clear, etc. It was the penny test that fixed it. I thought I cleared out the hose, and could not find a blockage with my drain cleaning tool similar to what was shown in the video. But the penny showed there was still a blockage. I had to end up using a long broom handle to push it closer to the hose end to reach it. That was it.
You’re a lifesaver!! I’m living alone and adulting for the first time and you just saved me from buying a new vacuum
That’s so awesome. Congratulations on adulting!

Apparently these vacuums are notorious for clogs in the hose which is what I encountered. Not complaining as it only took me 2 minutes or so and now it works like a champ.
Knowledge is power!
Excellent guide to fix the machine!
Thanks. I did not know there was a second filter and I've had this thing for about four years. Yikes. I was ready to buy a new one instead I'm spending $20 at amazon.
Awesome!
Very helpful! I've almost got this thing all apart. Doing major cleaning!
Have fun!
Thanks for the info on how to troubleshoot. I have learnt a lot from you thanks.
Glad to hear it!
Excellent information! What are the 2 filter part numbers? Thank you!
Thanks for sending us a text!
I ordered the 2 filters and cleaned my vacuum- it now works great! Thank you!
Thank you! I followed along and was able to fix this beast! I'm very grateful.
You're welcome!
Thanks for your clear help!
You mentioned in the video how some vacuums have other advantages (like not a lot of turns in the vacuum tubing, etc.).
Can you recommend any reasonably priced vacuums that meet those standards?
Oreck commercial upright is fabulous…

If you need one with tools on-board then I like:

You need an air compressor and blow those things out. That one looked like it was plugged with carpet pile and hair in the intake hose.
Great idea.
Thanks!
Oooo that’s something you will need to take to a local repair store…not something I can diagnose this way.
Great video. Thanks for sharing your skill
Thank you for watching!
Excellent video - this was very helpful to fix our problem with this vacuum!
Glad it helped!
Fixed my vacuum because of this video. Thank you 😊
Fantastic!
Sorry about that! Hoover doesn’t make very good vacuums.
Thank you!! Just cleared a clogged in the hose using a broom stick handle. 😊 Works like new.
Nice work!
Always good to support the brick and mortar stores!
Exactly what I needed. All fixed. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Have this vacuum and good tips in searching for a new vacuum. Since you work with vacuums all the time, which models do you recommend? I like how you pointed out the lines in the carpet and if a vacuum cleaner has a lot of curves. So which models do you recommend
Do you prefer uprights over canisters? We love Sebo, Simplicity, Riccar for uprights with tools on board like the hoover.
Totally agree! Blows my mind too sometimes.
Thank you!! How do I use the crevice tools? I detached the hose where it clips (grey clip) attached and the dirt was escaping from the vacuum.
Send me your model number so I can better assist your specific needs.
Just fixed my Wind Tunnel! Was going to buy a new vacuum. Thanks. That twisty part of the hose gets so clogged!
Glad it helped!
Hoping i can repair most all myself now as the machine is too heavy to lift to take to the repair shop- thanks!
You can do it!
So glad you figured it out!
What happened when you flipped the switch? Did it just not power the vacuum on? Cuz the switch on ours just crapped out unless the entire vacuum just stopped working 🤔
We plug it in and flip the switch and nothing happens, regardless of the outlet used
Great video. Exactly what I was looking for.
So glad it was helpful!
This worked! Clog in the hose, thank you!
Excellent!
(although we have been using it without a belt just with the hose and attachments for furniture, as the belt ended up breaking)
Any troubleshooting advice would be much appreciated!
Did you check the second filter at the bottom? Also can you send me your specific model number so I can help you with more troubleshooting?
@@kimberly.thomason Thank you for checking in! Yes we checked all of the filters and made sure they were all cleaned (:
The model number is UH70816
@@kimberly.thomason after opening the wire compartment and doing some more investigating, it seems like the wires plugged into the switch look fried. If you'd like to take a look I uploaded images of what it looks like to a folder on Google drive-
drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Ce6cTi73SnsNrNYT-TvNuNuJBjjkPbkg
I'm thinking maybe I can just trim the fried bits off and reconnect it? I am not sure if the whole original wire connection will need replacing 🤔
@@emr8957 I would replace the switch as well, but I don’t think there’s enough wire slack to trim and reconnect. When did you purchase it?
@@emr8957 I was going to guess the switch but I needed to look at a schematic first to see if it was available. But the charred wires worry me..
Perfect video for my problem, thanks!
You’re welcome! Glad it helped!
Great video!! Very informative and helpful!!😊
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent training.
Thank you!
Super helpful - now works like new!
Great to hear!
You mentioned in you video that you sell items to unclog the hose. I would like to know how to purchase those items. Thanks,
www.vac.md/product-page/zip-it-clog-removing-tool
This will help a lot!
You can text us a photo if you want!
Our problem is that the switch suddenly stopped working. And it was right after we cleaned out the hose! However we have never changed the belt. Perhaps that would make the switch suddenly stop? I will get a new belt, for starters. Great video. Thanks
kate
Did the switch stop clicking suddenly or will it not turn on? These will overheat with dirty filters and not turn on.
Subscribed😊
Right?!
This was really helpful - thanks so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Very Nice explaination. Mine just conked out and now I can see what to do!
Glad it helped
I’ve seen the parts inside and nothing looks like an actual sensor or circuit board.
ok, thanks for all you do! @@kimberly.thomason
Great job!
Thanks!
Thank you!
