you know the second performance she was actually sick with bronchitis! it’s crazy how she can belt out Gs while being sick!!!
I didn't know that! She's very skilled. I think practicing when you're sick is generally a good move, what works well when you're ill will work super well when you're better.

I found your page while searching Muse performing starlight. I have a question about Ariana Grande, yes she’s got a great voice and I’m. I singer or expert but I think I can tell if someone sounds ok and I find I can’t understand what she’s saying, it’s like she’s not finishing or rounding out her words. I noticed Jessica Simpson did it in a song she was singing years ago. I even heard an experienced singer many years ago say singers need to round out their words. When Ariana sang with Jessie J, Jessie I could uunderstand and think she had a better voice
@@Alainaa80 ariana doesn't enunciate her words sometimes + jessie and ari have different vocal singing styles which may be why :)

18:29 I've done her jaw thing in the past, and for me, it helped with note separation in my runs. My runs were clearer, but as you said, tension crept in really quickly, so I stopped.

i forget if it was the Summertime Ball performance in this video, but I remember one of the times she performed at that event, she couldn't hear herself: the mix in her IEMs didn't include her live vocal.

@@SamJohnsonVoice Your so welcome, i would love to hear your take on some other different topics that have circulated on TH-cam for a very long time since you are the only voice teacher i trust, the vocal community of TH-cam have misused the term “support” and “resonance” for a very long time all thanks to a blog that originated in 2008 called “TheKpopVocalAnalysis”, they said that resonance is achieved very rarely by few singers or what they like to call their favorite singers, and that most singers can’t support or resonate because of “tension and strain” which in most cases it’s minimal or no tension at all, and they don’t understand what strain is, it’s literally all the opposite of how vocal teachers teach vocal pedagogy.
They said that Ariana doesn’t have support past the note “B4” consistently and that she doesn’t support her high notes, they thrown around the word “support” a lot and even make vocal tiers and consider a “supported range” when trying to debate between singers, they consider that the one with the “wider supported range” is the better one leaving completely aside other vocal terms.
I would love to know your opinion on this.

general thoughts....I like your videos and analysis (although not a subscriber). I am surprised that from the many many videos you have done...I think you've only talked about whitney houston on less than 3-4 occasions. I get she is of a slightly different generation but considering the amount of reviews and analysis you have done of people who sang her songs....maybe do some more of her actual performances....hope the book takes off!!!

Yes! Book very good and very accessible.
It was my goal to make it as accessible and straightforward as possible! I think there's stuff in it that singers of any level could learn from.

the jaw thing seems to be something she picked up as a teen and held onto for a long time but shes worked on it since then and does it much less now
She is a Lirico Soprano, so her money notes are the F5's/G5's. So it makes sense why its an ease for her to hit upper belts. Same way a Mezzo money not is C5's/D5's belts. Vocal type or fach plays a big part in ones ability to hit certain notes/pitch. It helps avoid vocal damage over time
Yeah, but the amazing part is that her mid belts are also very good and strong, and her lows are very overlooked. She is so good
