Ampex custom built an 8 channel audio recorder for Les Paul which is now legendary. Another milestone for Ampex was the monumental development of the first videotape recorder in 1956. The VR-1000 and Alexander M. Poniatoff, President and Founder of Ampex Corporation, are shown here (@ 4:43). It was very well received by television executives and broadcast engineers around the Globe...but that's a whole 'nother story.
