i think a lot of this is put too low on the fretboard. a lot of the slides don't make sense unless the bass part was played down a string and 5 steps up

That's because the song was recorded live off the floor (i.e. not to a click track) which means the tempo is more fluid. This is how I make sure the bass part I transcribed is still in sync with the song.
