@6FigureRevenue
I’m starting my own painting business as I truly find it relaxing and peaceful. I’m also tired of selling my talent to get another person rich. Time to focus on my growth 🤞
Hello
You and me both
Same here. Good luck!
I’m in the same boat as you guys
Did you do it?
I've been painting for years, talked to a contractor at a job and now I'm doing my first solo job 9200 bid 7800+ profit.
Thats awesome to hear!
Damn commercial or residential
Can you please help in that sense as to how you’d approach
nice,congrats my guy keep going
How do get clients ?
Love it!! 👏👏 Painting business owner here. In our 3rd year of business. 1st year I was completely solo. 2nd year brought on employees. Now for the 3rd year I've taken myself completely out of the field and off the brush. On track to finish this year out at $500k revenue with a 40% Gross Profit Margin.
Can you share some advice I’m starting my own solo at the moment but don’t have no idea about pricing, tools llc
@DoSterling Pretty much spent the 1st year solo just building our reputation, collecting 5 star reviews, posting on all socials. For tools, I just bought what was needed for specific jobs as we needed and built that up slowly. Keep pushing man, you can do it
@@ElitePainting_EpoxyCoatings thank you for getting back to me I lost all my money and family savings in the stock market this year trading options and I’m trying to get out of the hole by doing what I used to do in the past. Thank you so much for the encouragement man I appreciate it
@@DoSterlinghang in there man. I’ve lost a lot of money too trying to day trade and it’s not for me at all
How do you take on somone els and make a profit with out rising your prices ?
My dad has been a painter for about 30 years now. My uncles (his younger brothers) are all painters as well. Ive work with them on & off throughout the years gaining experience & now that I’m in my mid 20’s i decided to pursue the family business. I’ve came to the realization that it will be an easy start up for me since my pops already has tons of connections that he can pass down to me. Wish me luck.
you got this!
Awesome man
That’s Awesome
Same here broski, Been working with my dad since I was kid during summer and started working at age 18 now I’m about to be 21 and going to start off a business with my dad since he haves more experience than me and got connections also so already in a good start
Holy shit. Im in the same exact position right now. I own a mobile detailing biz but this family painting biz is a great opportunity as well. Thats the dilemma at the moment, which to put my focus on. Your opinion would be valuable if you care to share!
This is probably the best video I've come across. Great job at putting questions
Just wanted to stop by and say thanks so much for this video! Alot of great tips and ideas here.
Very underrated video. Thank you guys for your time! Tons of gold in there
I paint often as a contractor and I feel this guy. We operate the same way in the fact we won’t hire and deal with flakes and have high work standards. It’s rough. What a talented artist too!!
Great Interview. Tim exudes with skills that are rare in the professional painting industry.
Very informative. I’m looking to run my own interior painting company. I was a painter on a contracting crew and fell in love with the work.
Answer your phone or pay someone to answer the phone every time.
Do not underbid for any reason. EVER.
Your new job is a salesman. The entire gig is selling.
Understand those 3 and you will be succesful. ❤
Perfect video for a one man shows !! Love it ✊🏾
Good Job to the interviewer and the subject. Very helpful.
humble beginnings brother! im in the exact boat as you in this vid!

His art studio is so cool does a great job!! Both in the field and out
We love our business when it comes to painting! We had a similar upbringing.
This is the most informative video I’ve found!
My respects to this brother what a humble human being thanks for the information
Thanks for this info thank you
I’m also in Michigan so this is comforting
What a skilled guy! Hope him the best in his art career!
Starting a painting business is becoming a full time salesman. Be clean. Answer your phone. And don’t underbid for any reason whatsoever no matter what EVER!!!
This is also goes for every single service business ever started. Landscaping, cleaning, carpentry, nails, hair, plumbing. Don’t matter all the same. The winners all do the same thing.
Im new and will certainly underbid at first.
Its a simple business tactic when you have no rep
Thank you guys so much 💯💯💯
I am a girl who wants to start my own business ❤ of painting
Good luck. I doing really good job... I tell true is very difficult get job for properly money...
This is guy is awesome ! best painter I've ever seen on You Tube! Funniest part is he's trying to quit. Thats when you know he's good. Painting professionally since 1986 still trying to quit...

Great Interview!🙂
Starting my journey. Been working with my pops for a year and on my way to get my contractors license
Thank you to Tim for your time! Go check his amazing artwork! And comment below what business you are starting!
Thanks so much for the opportunity!
@TimOliphant1 your realism is really good. Definitely, can become a top end tattooer
I've worked with painting contractors and they've told me that they have also been ripped off by a few clients that's why you should always get a down payment or something first get them to pay half and the rest later
Definitely we collect 40% deposit to schedule
@@Yo_666 it's highly not. Whatever the client agrees to is a sealed deal once it's on the board. 🖋️ 💯
Really great video super helpful 10/10
I dont know how I came across this video, but it was very helpful and the questions you asked related well to the topic and are things I wanted to know but wouldn't have thought to ask. Thank you. (by the way you forgot to sensor the number on the paper flyer) lol
I have the transit connect van 2013 much better space wise then that still could be bigger but it works for me and it's very low to the ground easier to lift up the big 840 in there
Wow...being a one man painter my self here in Bavarian Germany for 10 Years, i thought it is much different to the US. But it isnt. Really cool Video. Thx Tim!
I just started at a new company 2 days ago... helped my grandfather on a few jobs when I was way younger... didnt realize how much actually goes into it...
Excited to start this new opportunity. Any words of advice would really help! Thanks!

That ladder is meant primarily for stairs
Hes an amazing artist!
This guy must be in the Grand Rapids, mi area. I see his signs all the time.
I’m a painting contractor . I have 8 years experience, and I became a contractor 6 years ago. I make 240+ profit a year.
Where are you from? Interested in being in a video?
If he only charges 75/hr that is super cheap, at least for my area. And for owning your own business. Sure it is decent to cover the basics but not to get well ahead in life. I charge 250-700 plus per hour, The most I have ever made in one day is around 4k. Never charge by the hour.. Charge by the project... If you want to make good money at anything you do, you have got to get very efficient at it. If you are not you will make a lot less. I made about 3k a week when I first started painting 20 years ago.. I try to make $1,000 a day minimum. Average is 2k a day. Will be making more videos for my channel, just started not long ago on here.
What company do you get your liability ins from
They want me to pay 1500 a year where I live
Hi my husband just started his but can’t find clients , how do you get clients?
Good one 👍
I hate painting cabinets too but it pays well I only do them in shop tho so demo restore then reinstall all of it pays
How do you guys find jobs? We have a licensed and insured company but have a hard time finding jobs. Things like angi list seem like a trap. Any help would be amazing!
Learn how to patch and repair drywall properly. This will help with the quality.
This is a good small business model for a local who does very small projects within the immediate neighborhood. A base of ten or twelve locals in a suburban neighborhood with family houses can be profitable from word of mouth, reasonable prices, and reliability. But it's a very specific set of circumstances. Homeowners can be notorious for wanting more work than what was under contract, won't pay for extras and sometimes will hold out final bulk payment because they know a small business can't afford to go to court. So relationship with the clients is everything on this level. The other thing is that if you're working alone and sometimes with a helper you can only do this kind of work into your fifties. Injuries or health issues will put you in the red real quick. Finally there is a lot of down time with interior and exterior house painting. You're really busy only six months out of the year.
I have 14 years experience in painting business but now am about to open painting company need your prayers please
I had my own headache, (need to be a drunk to be a painter) business… transitions to gutters best thing I ever did
STUD 👏🏼💯
a really advertisment for his art
Why is his number blocked on van but if u type his name in on internet number shows up
Painting experience 11 years working in Saudi Arabia
How you only pay $25 a year for your LLC please explain?
20:29 $1,000 for two bedrooms, $100 in paint $900 labor. Two days or less
Hello Dear Sir ,Am intressting painting work with you,,am working Painting work since 2008
Am from Pakistan,,how is poosible....??plz
What liability company do you use?
I am also a painter in Ghana... please I would like to work with you
Almost 30 years painting
9 inch out of a clean 5 gallon bucket. No screen
You cant out pace us with the setup shown
Sleeves should be replaced after every 50 gallons /per large job.
Basically if you roll a whole house, it should be replaced
Otherwise your 3/4 becomes a 1/2
Then that 1/2 becomes a 1/4.
You end up beating yourself up production wise not replacing
For walls
As an artist running a solo painting business for many years, this was a great vid! But $3k/week? Thats $75/hr for a 40 hr work week...are painters really making that much on the regular? I charge $45-50/hr and always wonder how I compare to the other paint contractors. Any thoughts?
How you come about to your clients to charge them that much
While $75/hr (my current goal rate) may seem like it's on the higher side, consider comparing that to a larger painting company with tons of overhead. Many times customers get multiple estimates yet I've still gotten the project. Sometimes they've even told me I was the priciest but they want quality. A little more about my journey...My first year working for myself, I aimed to make $25 an hour (this was 2011). That was double what I was previously paid working for a large painting company that I knew was charging $40-45/hr (but paying me only $12). As I got more solo work, specifically referral work, I gradually increased pricing. As I got more experience, I learned which projects tended to make more and prioritized those. Most importantly, is getting into neighborhoods that, simply put: have money. If a house is worth $800k, their budget for painting (and willingness and ability to pay) will be far greater than a house worth $150k. Also, 15 years into painting, I can accomplish about 3 times the workload in a day than I could early on. If you're making around $50/hr as a painter, I'd say your doing way better than most! Last, I should point out that I don't work anywhere near a 50 week work year, as my style of working 110% burns me out. If you're staying relatively busy, consider quoting higher end projects a bit higher. You might be pleasantly surprised at the results! Good luck my fellow artist!
Talk to your Sherwin rep. I get Duration for $40/gal
I hope he has more than just the LLC and liability. Contractors license or at least a business license to run a business is required you would think.
Considering this now in LA.Anyone in the area considering the same?
This is great I love this
Benjamin Moore products are far superior ... but cheap painters use SW because the give %40 discount
Wow! Can you please share me the company whose providing you the liability insurance for $500 a year? I'm in Texas and the cheapest quote I got is $300 per month 😢 thanks in advance!
Oh wow! I'm with Acuity Insurance. (Keep in mind I'm just a one man crew.)
Yes, I only selected interior painting with 2 employees, no workman's comp and $300 per month. The company is called
Next insurance in Dallas, TX. I'm glad to learn from you all here 😃
I’d fire him as soon as he pulled out the trays lmao😂
A good brush is about 25 to 30 now haha
Am ready to join with you I
I'm trying to grow my art business but I must admit I'm reluctant to spend on ads because I think I'm not going to get any interest
I would like to see his business books. Solo painter that doesn't work full time, and rolls out paint, making 6 figures by volume is questionable.
If you quote projects at around $3k a week, it takes 33.3 weeks to reach $100k ;)
anyone using marketing to get a consistent flow of painting jobs?
can i get a job as a assitate to you i have every documete
Dudes pants are way to clean lol.
i dont see how its possible to make £ 2,300 a week as a painter by yourself every job he goes on must just need painting without very little prep and every customer a millionaire
I work alone and charge $30 an hour rather than quoting. Am I not charging too little?
yes and you shouldn't be charging per hour
Charge more, maybe by the sq ft. Plus some
You need to be charging way more lol 30 an hour is hurting you big time... anything goes wrong and your done for profit.
$30 an hour isn't a business rate, it's a wage.
I live in a relatively small town and I charge $50 per guy on the job site. If I do a job alone I charge minimum $75. As far as material if you have a company discount you charge original price to customers if not try 15% of original price if you buy
How hard to be a one man painter
I haven't read thru the comments so forgive me. Is this George to the rescue's brother?
Corona brushes over purdy all day
I'm pretty sure its not legal to put mail in peoples mail box.
I am intrdyd haus pynteg GOp iam saudi arbea 10 eyr exprync
Good luck finding high paying customers. I always get low balled.
That van is a mess !
Real painters don't use trays bro
What do they use?
And you’re really dumb for saying that. Every good painter uses trays and buckets.
If you show up on our jobsite with a gorilla ladder you are fired
Little Giants are better. Plus u get a workout. 😂
You guys must be brothers or family
friends
Why do painters wear white clothing?
It's the most common color to be used on the job.
White, grey, and beige
Don’t underestimate how bad painting is for your body
