This tells me that the cops think that Rebecca was a part of the killings in some way. Would explain why the mouse came to release her in the post credit scene.
You also have 5 alternative methods of defeating him. 1. Be a US citizen (they are all strapped) 2. Very long pipe (out range knife) 3. Giant mouse trap (needs giant cheese) 4. A cat. 5. Literally just leave.
I remember first watching the movie being on the mouses side because these protagonists are so incredibly dense in the common sense and survuval skills department

Because they're dirt cheap to make. You literally just need a bunch of wannabe actors, a night-time location, and some fake blood. Costs a few thousand bucks, all things considered, with the not too unrealistic expectation to actually make a profit, or even land a surprise hit, because people will go watch "Mickey Mouse kill random teens". It works all the time. Only this movie is SO shockingly bad, I certainly hope they're not making any profit off of it. Your ideas on the other hand require actual imagination and expertise, so the risk is infinitely higher. Horror movies are safe bets, because they don't require effort and the slasher crowd will literally watch anything, sometimes BECAUSE the movies are bad. Just get a bunch of friends together and turn it into a drinking game.

The way that it works is the participants would sit in one of the movie chairs with 3d glasses, but when the ride is "active a massive curtain wraps around to block out the outside light...there is a button next to the main console that automatically opens or closes the curtain so why not hide in there with the curtain closed?
This movie is painful to sit through... and the How to Beat only makes it worse by speaking my thoughts out loud. The movie would have ended so much faster if they had an iota of consistent common sense.

I will say, while the characters were being abject morons, they had no reason to think removing the mask would do anything to help their situation. We, the audience, know it might help since we saw the initial possession, but none of the other characters know about it. As such, that knowledge is an instance of dramatic irony because we have info they don't.
Same with the "spark" ... was wondering why this was even mentioned, since none of the characters could possibly know that ... and even IF there's no telling the process could even be reversed that way or whatever. Safest bet was to stick together, as should be obvious in such a scenario, and just smash in the fucking windows with anything you can find. Only issue being now that the stupid mouse apparently can just teleport to any location. And we all know that if you have no idea how to actually structure a movie you give your killer teleportation powers, because then he can just be everywhere in an instant, and nobody has to pay attention to such an annoying little detail as time/distance.
