  • A.B.P Podcast Episode #002 with the total legend Mark Darby. Mark is arguably one of the most influential people within the Southwest dance music culture in the 90's bringing headlining acts every Wednesday to Mighty Forces nights held at The Volts in Exeter, now called Move. His label's first release was Aphex Twins first release also. Mark has been has had his hand in cultivating the careers of Mark Pritchard, Tom Middletown, Jedi Nights, Matthew Herbert and many others. After Mark sold the shop he moved to London where he worked at different distribution companies like Rough Trade and Amato. Now he is back in Devon, and Might Force the record label is back, and along with the label and writing reviews on obscure records he manages to get the time to do a bi-weekly show on Love Summer Radio which is well worth checking out.

Nice to get a little bit of an anonymous mention for the tour I helped organize with your Canadian debut. ;)

Also, Garth from DIY AKA DJ Garth became quite well known in deep house circles and ran a label called Greyhound Records. I think he also held a residency at The End Up. If I'm not mistaken, he's still kicking around to this day. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DJ_Garth

Spundae was at 1015 Folsom Street, Roland. ;) It was pretty infamous for progressive house and trance.

Rowland, would love to hear your story, especially of the early days in Exeter, the Burston, Free parties etc. Also would love to see you interview Simon Pigfarmer!! Did you know there is a book called 'The Sewerside Chronicles' about the North Devon clothing company Sewerside, that features Simon a lot as they used to use his system for demos and skate jams etc. It's very funny.

Mistakes corrected... yes, I know it was Sunrise not Sundance and the yellow Tonka rig went to California in the mid 90s not 80s. Easy to get something wrong when you're on the spot ;)

Mark mentioned Can and Krautrock...get on Mark. Amazing how people inb the music industry know so little about music history and different genres over the years. 99.9% of my music collection is stuff from '65 to '72
