Today I visited a Honda dealership in Los Angeles. And they have the Civic hatchback hybrid, sports touring version. But only one. I felt pretty lucky because no other dealer in my city has one. The sales man showed me the car and I took it for a test dive. It's a great car and I decided to buy it. But while sitting in the sales office I found out that it's not for sale. Honda sent the car to the dealer as a demo. The dealer must keep the car for 90 days before selling it. I had cash in hand but could not buy it. Bummer!

Thanks for the tour! You gave a great detailed review. I had one of those old hybrid Civics; somewhere around 2011-2014 (can’t remember). I think it was around $29,000I chose that over a Prius. The color of this Civic is horrendous. It is so awful I almost didn’t watch, but that’s not your fault, so I watched on, kicking and screaming how ugly it is. It reminds me of the 1970s appliances on the old Let’s Make A Deal with Monty Hall. But, the grandparents will love it. I can’t imagine anything looking good in that color. White, black, red, gray and blue; that’s all you need. No need to make something up no one ever asked for. I’m going to laugh so loud when I see one (hopefully I won’t). The Camry LE hybrid is $31,000, but I like the attributes the Civic model. I’m sure the Camry doesn’t come in bizarre colors, but they have in Ocean Blue that is spectacular. I like just about everything about the Civic and I like the head unit size and would not want it larger. I realize you do, but I see no logic to reaching over half way across the car to adjust something, and I like it separate from the driver indicators and the steering wheel would hide part of it. It’s a car, not a movie theatre. I don’t care for the Rolls Royce-looking air vent diverter controls and I’m sure they’re not solid steel, so calling attention to them serves no purpose. They will probably break either using them or moving your hand from the mirror to the gear shift, or some other accident knocking them off. There's always some silly design someone takes credit for that is ultimately a disaster. I’d pass on the hatchback at the upgraded price ($3000 is very too much) and living in Florida, I think heated seats are ridiculous to include in any package. As a stand-alone option, it’s a nice idea for some regions, but this isn’t Iceland. You shouldn’t have to buy that to get a leather steering wheel. I wouldn’t buy cooled seats either and we have 11 months of summer here and it gets damn hot and over 100 at times. I also understand packages are to the advantage of the seller, not the buyer. I would change out the lights that weren’t LEDs. I did it to my car and have had no issues with them. I don’t understand why they don’t spend the extra $10 and install them at the factory. Thanks again for the tour. My comments are directed solely at the car and I appreciate the review. If I were to say what I liked about it, other than most things, the post would go on and that isn’t necessary. I’d love to see it in a typical car color (and I will), so I can tell what it really looks like on the exterior. I’ll bet it would be really sharp in a dark red metallic. It would make me more motivated to part with my cash. It just looks like cheap plastic that is waiting to be painted. I mean, it doesn't even look like paint; it looks like primer. Okay, I'm done now...lol.

Another thing...plenty of leg room in front, and pretty decent leg room while sitting in the back. During the test drive I hit the accelerator and it took off like a rocket. Plenty of power.
Sweet. The new gen V Priuses are nice but this is also very good. Love that it has more trunk and rear seat space than the Prius which IMO compromised on that a bit too much.
I purchased a Honda Civic in 2014 for $19,000, and it gives me between 31 and 39 mpg (averaging 34). It’s a great car for commuting-basic, but very comfortable to drive. I’m not sure if I would spend $30,000 on a Honda Civic today.
I think the Civic Hybrid Sport Touring Sedan will be my next car! But I will never understand who would want this color!?!? It's a lot like the Zircon Sand color that Mazda has....which is also hideous! Make mine blue please!
I'm amazed at how many different ways this powertrain is described. It is possibly the simplest ICE powertrain available, but that makes it so different from any other that some explanations will make it sound more complicated than it is. Most of the time, it is an EV. Not a _Battery_ EV, like a Tesla, but a _Battery_ and _Generator_ EV. The ICE runs at its most efficient rpm and power, and _only_ _as_ _a_ _generator._ You can calculate the ratio of the transaxle OUTPUT_RPM/INPUT_RPM, but it is not a "gear ratio." Because there are no gears, and no mechanical connection. It "varies continuously" only because speed varies continuously. You can't combine the ICE and motor torques because the ICE torque is not applied to the wheels. If you want to call that "direct drive," sure. It is. But "direct drive" usually means that an ICE is driving the wheels directly, not an electric motor. That is what happens when the clutch closes. But that is only when a more conventional car would use an overdrive gear, so this mode is not important to a discussion of performance. Because it is an EV, you can't "brake-torque" it (15:10). But by going thru those motions, you are telling the computer that you want a 0-60 test, so it turns off those asinine simulated shifts. All the shifts do is momentarily drop the ICE out of its best efficiency mode, and lower the application of power since we have been raised to think a momentary loss of power means more power. While true for an ICE with an actual transmission, that does not apply to EVs. (Ah, you say as much later, less cynically.)
I am comparing this Civic Hatchback Hybrid with my 2020 Hyundai Ioniq PHEV limited....mine won as it has genuine leather 10 way power driver seat with memory, 6 way manual passenger seat (height adjustment is really crucial for passenger seat IMO), power folding mirror, 8.9 kwh battery, 52mpg without plugging in. Hyundai certainly provides more value for my money and glad I got one before it discontinued the model which is a true hidden gem. Nonetheless I applaud Honda's effort in this Civic Hatchback hybrid which should take away some sale from the Toyota Prius.
aw man that color and those wheels look really good the powertrain of course is really impressive. if you don't care about having a manual transmission it's definitely the civic to buy i'll stick with my 22 sport hatch manual but this thing has like twice the range lol
I think the mpg numbers depend massively on the driver. I can probably get wayy more than advertised with this car. I say that because I get 525 miles range in my 18' Sentra with a 13.2 gallon tank with my average normal driving. Roads here are longer/less lights in Florida but still. I'd probably be in 600s in this civic, very attractive. Would love to get one, but too much OTD lol, MSRP is fine.
The Si definitely feels faster though, I’ve driven both in the past week. You can’t get yhe hybris in a manual and the si has even better handling but the hybrid is the way to go for a practical daily it is untouched. The Si’s are slower on paper but if you drive one you wouldn’t notice or care they are fun
12:14 thank you for calling out Honda’s clear lack of being behind the times with screen sizes. These new vehicles cost tons of money, even lower trims. A 7” screen on a 2025 model vehicle is laughable. I don’t know why it’s so hard for them, they probably don’t care enough. It doesn’t cost the automaker much to produce a larger screen.

@@naveenthemachine boring to drive with almost equivalent hp and torque with the civic. Overrated is your opinion. I laid out actual facts like awd, price, and mpg. Your argument is all feelings based other than the interior space. Keep hating brotha. A Prius will last 100k+ more miles than a civic will. There’s a reason why every taxi is a Toyota, and many Priuses. They are the best Boring economy car and the civic is just trying to catch up. And the civic has just had much cheap plastic interior material as the Prius. These cars are the same price point yet the civic doesn’t get better mpg, isn’t as reliable and doesn’t have awd. Love the car, however if you were averaging 43 MPG I know its not hybrid but the ST Hatchback since like a great option for only a slight drop in fuel economy.
As someone who drives a 2021 Honda Insight EX with just a little over 40,000 miles, I really like this one. That being said, idk if it will be worth it for me to trade in for it since its only a slight upgrade with hatchback space and a bit more range. Plus the Insight has a 10.3gal fuel tank size that still gets me 496 miles of range. I would totally go for it if I didn't already have an Insight with more than half the loan paid off...that and it only cost me $26k msrp before TL&F.
I bought a 2019 insight touring back in late 2018 and haggled the price down to about 26k lol. Car is still worth around 17k. But I’m bored and want to get an updated car lol.
This could be my next car. One bummer is that the "blue lagoon pearl" offered in the sedan is not offered with the HB. You can still get the smurf blue though, in either trim. The sand color is growing on me.

You’re on part of my Sunday drive route. If you turned right on Old Charlotte instead of left on McCrory Ln, there’s a ridge with some nice sharp twisty bits.
Wow, what a beautiful car
Bought a blue one with gray interior 2 days ago!
I'm on the Gulf Coast. Hot hot hot down here. Wish it had vented seats. My squeeze and i both drive. Wish it had memory function.
Love everything, but that would be an uptick.
Need to get one of these in bright blue ASAP
The HRV needs this drivetrain. If they didn't raise the price too much as a result, I'd consider one.
Only if they made an Accord hatch❤
Accord is overpriced and ugly.
Accord will eventually get discontinued.
Just like your mom @@zarbon700
@@tyhyhh That's the response of a 7 year old. You should be paying attention to your 2nd grade teacher instead of being on TH-cam.

The Prius horn comment 😂
Second video I watch. Did you do the new fl5 type r? Love the way you display specs. Enjoy watching your videos
just hope you dont live in a cold climate. Learned this the hard way.. got 28mpg today on my 60mile trip into work..... Cold kills this cars mpg like ive never seen.
Another thing...plenty of leg room in front, and pretty decent leg room while sitting in the back. During the test drive I hit the accelerator and it took off like a rocket. Plenty of power.
i didnt think I'd ike this color but the more I see it the more I LOVE it!!
I would love to know how this handles in northern Ontario snow. I want this vehicle but with no Awd option and the snow we get in just unsure.
If only Honda offered that drive train and color on the HRV
The Japanese/Euro version of the HRV has the same powertrain and paint color
Great review! No rear vents is dumb. The all black sport wheels were much nicer imo. Thanks
You have a voice i can listen to all day
Tossing and turning wondering if I should switch to this from my 6MT Civic Hatchback ST. Don't think I can give up the manual though.
Good looking car.
Nice paint job.
No hybrid for me though
Great car, super fun to drive.
Good review. No spare-no go.
There is a reason car manufacturers discontinue a model.
aw man that color and those wheels look really good
the powertrain of course is really impressive. if you don't care about having a manual transmission it's definitely the civic to buy
i'll stick with my 22 sport hatch manual but this thing has like twice the range lol
It's crazy how this is just as powerful and more efficient than a Si, it feels at this point Si is just an afterthought for Honda.
I'd like to seat vents for rear passengers. Otherwise, this seems to be a fantastic daily car.
That's quite good looking actually :O
12:14 thank you for calling out Honda’s clear lack of being behind the times with screen sizes. These new vehicles cost tons of money, even lower trims. A 7” screen on a 2025 model vehicle is laughable. I don’t know why it’s so hard for them, they probably don’t care enough. It doesn’t cost the automaker much to produce a larger screen.
Very good value. This and the new Camry are excellent options.
They need to bring back the Crosstour as a hybrid.
Gorgeous design
Dash is one of the best
Layout reminds me of my air cooled Porsche dash
Console delete would be cool
ThunkLevel™️: “nice, solid sounding”
I like the looks of this car and it does look really nice inside, but seeing it encroach on Camry and Prius pricing gives me pause a little bit since it is lacking in some feature content.
Front bumper inspired by the snout from a Storm Trooper helmet...
Seriously thinking about picking this over the camry
You're giving up a lot of legroom but I'd do it! This thing looks amazing.
@@joepage5000not as much legroom as you think I’m 6’2 240lbs and have plenty of room in the front or rear but you’ll definitely notice the lower albeit sportier ride height
Camry ain’t that roomier, I have one and the accord for example felt way more spacious and they are in the same class.
Still needs to prove it's reliability
Hondas 2 motor proven hybrid has been in use since 2014 accord hybrid.
Still don't love this body design, but that color! And glad to see the hybrid back in the hatch!
Honda Toyota and Mazda continue to offer the best value in this class.
Toyota not so much 😂😂😂
@@naveenthemachinethat’s completely wrong. An awd Prius le costs the same as the sport hybrid civic and the Prius has better mpg, awd, and a transmission that’s wayyyy more reliable. The Prius is way better values than this civic.
@@Gabbagool345wrong. The Prius is cramped, boring to drive, nowhere near as high quality, doesn’t punch above it’s weight into more expensive entries, nowhere near as premium, and it’s way overpriced and overrated
@@naveenthemachinethese are cheap, hybrid, economy cars. They are all boring to drive 😂😂😂
To the normal everyday driver, it really isn’t a contest.
Honda Civic love the car, in every cardealship brand new ones are higher prices later during the year prices decrease by less
For a car in this class…….i like it. Black wheels would look nice on that color IMO.
0:22 and the first time ever in this Audi-esque Desert sand paint job
The "I'm a church Pastor" beige/ tan 😂😂😂😂
Or Mazda Zircon Sand.
Will these be available in boost blue. Thank you sir love your reviews
Yes
I'll be keeping an eye on these over the next few years to see how they stack up when I want a newer vehicle.
ok spam bot.
The great Honda !
This could be my next car. One bummer is that the "blue lagoon pearl" offered in the sedan is not offered with the HB. You can still get the smurf blue though, in either trim. The sand color is growing on me.
"Smurf Blue"...they should use that as the official paint color! 😆
I like the color
This is a good offer but considering that the Camry hybrid(more power) or the Accord hybrid can do the same mpg depending on the trim and they cost almost the same MSRP I’d go mid-size sedan.
Some of us like smaller cars and this fits the bill.
A fully loaded Camry hybrid is 43k, around 10k more expensive than the fully loaded Civic hybrid shown in the video
@@johnkonde1975 correct but you can even get a optioned out SE or LE with twice the amount of technology and other features while still offering close to 50mpg for near the same price as this civic.
Neither of those are hatchbacks.
@@ethanferguson12 you have it backwards. look at the specs, civic is just as spacious as the camry on the inside. ive owned both the new camry and civic (xse vs sport touring) and they were surprisingly comparable. tech is not much of a jump over a civic, camry has bigger screen but both have wireless carplay, charging docks, ACC+LKA. camry is slightly more refined overall but the civic is sportier
Unfortunately in Europe is aprox 15hp lower :(
But we have the panoramic roof :)
As for consumption ,asfter 12k km (7.5k miles) the consumption is 47mph, city+national roads mainly, some highway but les than 20% of the time. Highway is where it consumes the most by far (1t 140kph)
