Brilliant, I don`t know why anyone would not love any enjoy visiting the place, i just wish the houses from back then had more light, I think the wooden panneling makes things darker but still, very lovely, the kind of place anyone will be proud to live at,thanks so much for sharing,really appreciate.

Hi David there's almost a thousand years of history on the castle site little is left of the original but what you see is from the middle ages it was revamped and lived in from the 1800s until given to the National trust to preserve, if you venture down to the crypt and cellar's it's very much as you would expect,

We saw the secret passage from above when we took the roof off in 2006. I'm not sure the trust were aware of it before that? It certainly didn't look like it had been opened up for a while.

@glyn829 yes it was but I had a great experience at Calke Abbey tunnels as we was invited down as vip for doing a trial for them and we had the whole place to ourselfs. We had a guide but wow some super creepy noises lol
