Is this the same Dave Allen whose show was played here in the US during that mass importation of British (and even Australian) shows of the late seventies and early eighties? “Dave Allen At Large” was the show.
@@deirdremacnamara9885 Good to know…I figured that it probably was…thanks. Other odd shows I watched during that period were “The Goodies”…remember that one?….. and “The Paul Hogan Show”….before he was Crocodile Dundee!
Brother Jamal , you know who else does the same thing where he's talking to someone else but, you only hear his side of the conversation is the great BOB NEWHART (except he mainly uses a phone that isn't there , and his delivery is calmer) He's a genius and a legend and he'll make you spit out your drink for sure bro!✌️❤️🎸🎶🙏
loved me some Dave Allen At Large! the shows got to us some years late, but we’d see his show on Saturday nights on WTTW in Chicago. there was the time block of shows starting at 10pm: Monty Python, Dave Allen and Doctor Who. such great times!
Here in the NYC area, Channel 9 (a local, non network station) used to broadcast reruns of Benny Hill and Dave Allen at Large back-to-back. The local PBS station aired Monty Pythons. Luckily there were on different nights.
I used to watch Dave Allen on my small black and white TV in my room before bed when I was 12 or so. Good Stuff! Recommend “An Irish Funeral”. One of the funniest skits I have ever seen.
He highlights the absurdities of life. I always watched him on television and those were the only times I almost choked laughing. Please do the airplane sketch next!
Loved sitting with the family to watch Dave Allen on a Saturday night. He was a comic genius and so missed here in the UK. So great to see that he has new generations of fans - gone but never forgotten RIP Dave Allen.❤❤
Dave was one of the greatest ever comedy geniuses who came out of Ireland and the UK and may God rest his dear soul. What an incredible legacy he left us...🙋♂
Hi Jamel. Thanks for this. It's bringing back great memories. I grew up watching this in the '70's. Dave Allen was from Ireland. May I suggest another Comedian from the UK - Michael MacIntyre. I think you would really like his comedy also.
This made me think of my parents' house that was like Pink Floyd's Time as they had a grandfather clock, a grandmother clock, a cuckoo clock and a Navy clock. If you think this is convoluted try explaining that 12 o'clock is 8 bells and 5 o'clock is 2 bells and 8 o'clock is 8 bells and 10 o'clock is 4 bells. Clue: it's to do with 4 hour shifts on a ship but fucking confusing for anyone not drilled in this since childhood who wakes up in the middle of the night to listen to the dcacophony of bells, chimes and cuckoos going nuts.
Dave Allen asked a priest how to make holy water? The Priest said that’s Easy. First full a pot with water turn it on high Then boil the hell out of it
we had a yellow desk clock in school that taught us time.. it was big and had a large minute hand and hour hand. i believe it was yellow and blue.. this was first or second grade... he is funny..
If you feel inclined, check out when he tells about his first Catholic school when he was 4 years old, I think it'd just called ''Religion''... arguably the funniest one yet.
I didn't know telling time could be so confusing, and now I have to relearn how to tell time using what I learned here today. I use the 24-hour clock, a lot less complex.
Smart kid! lol. Always start with the hours first! lol. Dont get into minutes until After they get the hours! 😂 Teaching my kids how to read time was much easier on an old fashion clock! It has all the lines in between for the minutes! lol.
I remember a conversation I once had in a game store. Twentysomething: "Can someone tell me the time?" Me: "There's a clock right there." Him: "(pause) Analog sucks." His girlfriend: :"He's gonna hear about THAT tonight!"
This is amazing too, everything related to time in society is based on "measurements of time>, but there is no physicist on the planet that knows what time really is...Just only know how to measure it, but they don't know what it is, According to Brian Greene and Sabine Hossenfelder ...
I remember watching Dave Allen on TV in England back then The entertainment value was off the Richter Scale You laughed so much you always ended up with Belly Ache And up till 1982 we only had BBC and ITV I’m afraid in todays woke snowflake world he would be part of cancel culture and would be labelled misogynistic 🇬🇧🤩🤩🤩🤩🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴👍 👍
There's just so many ways to look at an analog clock that don't make sense reading a digital one. Similar with the trouble of getting a kid to read/write/understand cursive when they've spent all their time with digital devices.
His show Dave Allen at Large he used to sit on a stool smoke cigarettes drink his whisky and tell jokes with some skits in between. I liked him better than Benny Hill
Dave's family did not know what he did for a living other than he worked for the BBC.. I use to watch Dave Allen at Large all the time, very funny man without swearing or being vulgar
As long as you are going done the English comedy rabbit hole (well Dave Allen is actually Irish), you should check out Jethro. Sadly, Jethro passed away in 2021, but he was hilarious. Jethro based his comedy on Cornwall - the southwestern most region of England. Cornwall has a unique culture, so some jokes might be difficult to understand. But Jethro was very good.
Can remember teaching my son's, the oldest just took it for what it was just Dad making me learn something new. My youngest question after question. And he is like ok now he understands the concept but now approximately isn't good enough anymore! If he asks what time it is and you say oh it's quarter after 5, he will go to the kitchen look at clock on microwave and run back Dad it's only 5:12. Or if you say it's almost 6 he will look at like well don't you know how to read your watch it will tell you the time exactly, fine it's 10 minutes to 6. Well 10 minutes is along time you said it's almost 6, this the rabbit hole of explaining approximate time which he explains is stupid if you look at your watch why not say the exact time every time. And on and on such a huge difference between kids. They are older now but the youngest still has questions constantly. If he calls in the evening and says Dad I got a question well there goes a good portion of the evening. Oh and of course Dad knows everything and can fix anything so explaining you don't know the answer you will have to look into it he's like there is someone who knows something Dad doesn't he must be a genius. So much fun wouldn't trade raising my 2 son's for anything and to see them become truly Good Humans I take great pride in! Sorry so long winded but this brought back a lot of memories.😂
He has the same type of humor Bill Cosby had. Watch Bill talk about chocolate cake for breakfast sometime...he's talking to people who aren't on the stage. Now, that being said, Dave Allen had a lot of sketch comedy during his shows besides his monologue and they could sometimes be very slightly risque', but still very funny.
I had similar experience. It was a word problem in 3rd grade asking how much fuel an airplane needed to get from point A to point B e weigh X number of people? I just replied ‘why not just fill up the plane.?’
this is soooooo funny, just a moment ago I was talking to a friend of my about Language. Similar sounding word with different meaning, what made them invent a word with a Silent sounding letter and so on. One of the words we talk about was, Hole, Whole and Holy, Knows & Nose. Lick, Leak and Lake has got something do do with water. Another is about Anagram, words like, Live & Evil, God and Dog as in Dogma, Zeus & Suez.
We've all been through this but Dave Allen shows how rediculous it can be to try to teach a child the time . I grew up laughing so much at Dave Allen's humour , he was so sharp , controvercial but hilarious .
I loved watching his shows in the 70s. Always ended with him sitting on a high stool, cigarette or a drink in hand saying Goodnight and may your God go with you.
MY NIECE & NEPHEW HAVE A "MICKEY MOUSE" CLOCK AND IT'S MICKEY'S HANDS & ARMS THAT ARE THE CLOCK ARM SO WHEN I WOULD TAKE CARE OF THEM AND THEY WOULD ASK "WHEN IS MY MOM COMING BACK HOME AT WHAT TIME ??" There are clean comics. You don't have to curse to be funny. Also remember though, the Dave Allen clips you are watching were TV broadcasts. No cussing allowed on free TV.
Aaand WHYYY is 15 minutes past the hour considered a Quarter past. A quarter is 25! Cents so??? I got teary eyed an stressed out tryin to convince her a quarter could Not be 15 aaand 25, she needed to make up her mind an just answer WHICH ONE IS IT!
That was FUNNY!! You should react to GEORGE CARLIN'S routine on "TIME" it's DIFFERENT from Dave Allen's here, but it IS about time....not learning how to tell time. It's also when George was younger, it was in the 1970's th-cam.com/video/zaR3sVpTB98/w-d-xo.html
Jamel, I don't know why you have to shrink your videos or why they block you so much while letting others slide. I am starting to think they were somehow threatened by your popularity. I don't want to start any conspiracy theories but I know you should have done had a million followers by now. Something smells to me.

Grew up watching Dave Allen. His Irish funeral skit is one of my favorites.
Dave Allen was a comedy legend and genius. May he rest in peace. I highly recommend his piece about Airplanes. Just magic.
Dave Allen is one of those rare comedians who can tell a joke you've heard a thousand times, but with his delivery you still end up laughing.
Loved staying up and watching him when I was a kid
My mam used to call Dave the Irish Anti Depressant.
We were always guaranteed 30 mins of laughter without fail, all of us.

Dave Allen was one of the best. No F-ing & Blinding, just the odd bugger & bloody. I really looked forward to his programmes back in the day.
The great Dave Allen, used to watch him with my father here in Ireland on the TV in the 1980's
