Had never listened to Sibelius' music before. Only reason I even know OF him is because of Nightwish. Now I can see why Tuomas is drawn to his music, and made a tribute to him on the Imaginaerum tour. (If you remember the pipes around the keyboards in the Wacken 2013 videos, those pipes were made to resemble the Sibelius monument in Helsinki.) Btw, Nightwish has a music video for a new song out, called "Perfume of the Timeless", New NW album in Sep.
Lauri Porra of Stratovarius is a great-grandson of Sibelius. I saw his wife, Dalia Stasevska, conduct the 5th in Seattle, right after Lauri performed his concerto for electric bass. An epic evening.
Listen again to the bass line during the moment the big horn melody comes in for the first time It's an exact copy of the horn theme itself, slowed down three times. It shouldn't work, but it does.
Beautiful composition for the return from the holidays, Jeff. We have been orphaned many days. Sibelius gives us peace of mind.

Listen to his Symphony No 4, "Inextinguishable." Magnificent.
@@WardDorrity Carl Nielsen wrote the Extinguishable. The Sibelius 4th is also a great work. Very icy sounding.

@@craigkowald3055 Yes, you are of course correct. My mistake. Great composers, both of them. My vinyl music library has most of their works.
I really appreciated this piece of Sibelius, in which everything is delicately intertwined without losing the theme. Thank you for your choice.

Jeff Castanon is back from vacation, yeah...............more new videos from Stratele Studios..................thank you, glad you are back safe
If the conductor is not in perfect sync with the timpanist, this can go horrible wrong💀.
