    I installed rod holders on my Tarpoon 100 on the same angle you did then after taking to some small lakes and rivers realized that with rods facing out on angle caused problems when fishing close in tight spots as they were pointing out much further than the width of the yak. Also found that they sometimes interfered with casting.
    The installation video is good, but I would mention that maybe 1 of the 2 holders be mounted for a trolling purpose.

      Definitely a preference thing. I typically try to replicate the angler editions of the same make/model. Thus, I canted them out at that angle. I prefer them canted out like that most of the time, but if I am going through mangrove areas I sometimes switch over entirely to adjustable track mounted Railblaza/scotty/ram rod holders.

    This rod holder has an inner backing plate. The screws secure the rod holder to the kayak and into the inner backing plate. Their is a gasket that is included and so silicone isn’t really needed, but I like using it anyway.

    Okay I have a question would water be able to get in through the rod holder or is it sealed in the back and one more question how many rod holders do you get when you purchase it thank you so much for sharing

      @KayakDIY 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fishing with Cristina you get one flush rod holder for the price....so you would likely want to buy two.
      Water can’t get into the kayak from the rod holder hole since it is closed at the end.

    Hi, nice video. Can you tell me what attachment you’re using on your dremel? Is it just a drill bit or something more specialised? Thanks.

    • @KayakDIY
      @KayakDIY 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Wayne Green it is a general purpose cutting bit. I found that the company Rotozip has a Dremel sized cutting bits that are much more affordable. I was using a Milwaukee rotary tool which is pretty much identical to a Dremel just a different brand.

    what kind of blade did you use for cutting the hole?

    • @KayakDIY
      @KayakDIY 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      General purpose cutting bit for rotary tools. Else for jig saw I use narrow blade fine teeth. I’m not fancy. Just go slow. With rotary tool you want to be careful it can easily get away from you if not used to using one. Recommend practicing on 5gal bucket. Some folks use appropriate size hole saws and cut at 30 degree angle. The rod holders I recommend (in video description) have good size gasket so you don’t have to be perfect...just close.

      A cheap set of hole saws from Harbor Freight would have been handy.

    That cutting was scary to watch, one slip and you ruin your kayak, just get the right size holesaw

    • @KayakDIY
      @KayakDIY 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Helga Palmer holesaw definitely works. Just drill out at an angle. Doesn’t matter how you remove the material...do what works best for you.

    why screws rather than rivets?

    • @KayakDIY
      @KayakDIY 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Isaac G 32 these rod holders are meant to be used with screws. The backing plate which makes it stronger wouldn't work with rivets. I have used rivets for other style flush mounts but like these rod holders more.

      Lol....a lot of us use nuts and bolts. Rivets break.
