    I love this video! I've just bought my first house and finally can have a garden. I've never known how to harvest this so it would keep growing. I had some in a window before and it just went limp. Thanks for the tips.

    😍 Thank you for sharing! I planted seeds a couple of weeks ago, and I have beautiful baby basil plants! My 1st time ever growing herbs.
    Do you ever dry some of your basil for longer storage? If so, how do you do it?

    • @DaysWellSpent
      @DaysWellSpent  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I dry most of the herbs I grow. I dry them inside in a dehydrator. I'll be sure to make a video of the process when I do the next batch.

      I just wash, air dry. Afterward put the leaves in a brown paper bag. After they are dried transfer to your container.

    When storing your basil in the water would you put it in the fridge or leave out on the counter?

    • @DaysWellSpent
      @DaysWellSpent  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's really best to allow the stem to establish roots before planting in soil, otherwise the stem usually just dies.

    Hi can you tell me when can we re harvest from the same plant after the first harvest. I wanted to know number of days between harvests for a farm... Thank you

    • @DaysWellSpent
      @DaysWellSpent  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can keep harvesting from the same plant but be mindful to leave enough leaves for the plant to continue to grow.

    Thank you for your video. How long will the basil survive in a jar of water on the counter?

    • @DaysWellSpent
      @DaysWellSpent  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will begin to root if not used in about 5-7 days, after that it will continue to grow if you keep watering.

    can i also pinch random leaves from the bottom part, or will it affect the growth of basil? or cutting stems from the main stem is just the way to harvest the leaves? I don't know, I kind of feel stupid asking this but I see a lot of videos harvesting by cutting stems so I'm kind of worried to pinch leaves randomly

    • @DaysWellSpent
      @DaysWellSpent  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can also pinch leaves randomly. Pinching the stems however is what will push the plant to bush more which will give you more leaves to pinch.

      @@DaysWellSpent no i meant the plant itself. My plant isnt growing very well.

    • @DaysWellSpent
      @DaysWellSpent  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I have mine planted in partial shade, keep the soil moist and well mulched. I've tried full sun and at least here in Texas, the basil stays greener and the plant fuller in partial sun.

      I am a year late, but here's my input. I also live in Texas, and it gets really dry and hot (low 100s high 90s) in the summer. I let my plant be outside for a few hours a day after I spray the plant down, and it stays a nice shade of green. It seems to enjoy the sun, but if it stays out too long, the leaves get burnt and turn brown. If they don't get enough sunlight, it seems that the leaves turn a yellow color. I had multiple basil plants and gave one to my in-law, and her plant doesn't go outside, and it is a yellow color. I came and stayed for a week, taking the plant outside once a day like I do mine, and it started to get a good green color going again.

  • @mowgli6345

    You mentioned that they grow the more you harvest. Does it ever get unmanageable to the point you have much more than you need to use?

    • @whats-this-about
      @whats-this-about 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can dry or blend it with oil and freeze it for a longer shelflife. Or debush the plant so you don't have alog of new shoots growing 😊

    What insect would eat All the basil leaves and leave just the stems? It happened over a 2 day period.
    This happened to my lemon basil and my lemon balm. These were in pots.
    We have a 7 ft fenced back yard, so its NOT DEER..The pots are about 24 inches tall, so I don't think its rabbits either.
    Please help

      Going to seed means it flowers and then produces seed pods.

    How much basil can you have in one pot?? I’m growing mine from seeds and they are all in one pot I probably have at least 20 coming up. I planted way the many seeds. They are so small I could barely see them. Now I think I’m going to have way to much. I would like to put as many in one pot as possible

    • @DaysWellSpent
      @DaysWellSpent  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the size of the pot. Once they get just a bit bigger you can gently remove some of them and plant them in another post. I usually have 3 in pot that's about 8" across. I've seen others plant double that.

  • @barbr316
    @barbr316 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really could not see what you were doing or you were snipping it off because of the way you edit the video with the wording it was covering the pot, so it was hard to see through the wording where you were snapping but thanks for sharing
