Actually it’s really mentioned in scriptures that Lord Rama didn’t exactly return from Lanka to Ayodhya during Deepavali time. But upon Rama’s entry the people of Ayodhya lit many earthern lamps and placed them all around their homes. So, we celebrate Deepavali as the arrival of Sri Rama to Ayodhya and light earthern lamps.
