Hello I recently saw Scotty's video and I respect Him. I have 3 daughters and 3 chevy Cruze's and one has over 200 thousand miles. I Have had the common issues with replacing the plastic water outlet, failed intake manifold pcv. ect. list go's on. Never had an issue with timing chain. Thank you for your informative information. These 1.4 engines get bashed all the time on the internet, but if you maintain them they are great. Cheers
The whole Scotty Kilmer part aside, you made a ton of comments that were very insightful and relevant from the mindset of a mechanic that knows this engine. Some of your points on diagnosing symptom with an big picture view make total sense. Too many people just dig into the error codes.
Underrated video. Watched his video yesterday and almost replied to it. Guess the algorithm wanted to throw you my way. I have the exact issue you're speaking on. Clogged catalytic converter and a bad evap purge canister. After replacing the evap purge canister noise went away. Now just need to replace the converter
I know I’m prolly 5 months late, but did you try cleaning out the cat? If so, what’d you do/use? Was it successful? I had a “clogged” cat on a Sonic with the 1.8 engine. Cleaned it out with a can of Seafoam in the fuel tank and I also sprayed a whole can into the throttle body. Cleared it right up and has been good since. No CEL, no codes. Also runs a lot smoother since doing that.
what you are doing is what a real mechanic does. too many mechanics go down the "technician" route now. yes its helpful, but knowing what your looking and at and how it works is more important if you need to diagnose properly. one issue can look like several other issues and sometimes it needs hands on looking under the cover to see whats afoot..its a tough job being a mechanic, the general public dont realise this most of the time...they dont see the sweating the grunting, the swearing when fixing some of these things..there is rarely an easy job, cos you know its never going to be that easy...as an apprentice it was drilled home that you start from easy to hard when it comes to diagnosing issues....great video
This is not the first mistake Scotty has made. Through the years he has proven to merely be a voice with an opinion equal to hundreds on the internet. Not to be confused with someone above the rest.
Changed mine out around 67k, I'm almost at 89k miles now and it already needs another one! (Purge valve) and I'm also getting the timing chain sound so I'm going to check that too guide. Thanks.
Put some engine oil in it and the noise should be quieter.. even a brand new one will make the same noise after some time although there's nothing wrong with it .
Can cant blame his diagnosis though. He was just reading codes and making an educated guess. Good on you for not bad mouthing him too. That is usually the first thing to happen in one of these "your wrong" vids. Good work man.
Great video agree 100% with you, aside from extra maintenance on 1.4t coolant leaks early piston failure great engine i work on them.. never done a timing chain or crankshaft even blown engine had good parts in it..
Thank you very much for this video, my fiance and I just recently purchased a used sonic and i was worried about that video Scotty posted, and believe me. i dont believe people right away, i still wanted to check for myself if what he was saying was true because i know how mechanics can be now a days. I have owned turbo cars for years now so when i came across your video it definitely made more sense to me that you understand more of the mechanics point of view rather than an ECU tech. With me and my fiance being owners of a 200k mile 94' gmc g3500 definitely under stand gmcs design shortcomings, you cant start every diagnostic with bad mouthing a manufacturer until you actually open it up and fix the problem. Scotty did not and doesnt always do that and its sad. I hope you get recognition for this video. Keep on keeping on man
Good observation, I have an 2008 Ecotec 1.8 (Saturn Astra) with 170K miles. It is so easy and cheap to maintain but people need to have some inclination to do the DIY thing. Also I have a 2009 Honda Civic LX (since brand new) with now it has 120K miles. The Civic is maintained oil, fluids, filters, tires, brakes, etc by the dealership since new. The AC clutch got replaced, the starter also got replaced, right there you got very expensive services.
This video was very helpful Korey! My Sonic has been such a headache since I bought it in 2017. And right now I have to replace the oil feed line, fix coolant leaking for the 50th time, and replace engine mounts and tie rods. I'm thankful for how far it's taken me though. Like you said, few hundred dollars and not a thousand..
I have same underboost code, and i never thought about catalytic issues. I'm gonna stick a camera inside tu see how much dirty have in it. Thank you the tip.
My 2015 starting making that really loud ticking noise around 91k, researched it and verified it was that purge valve and swapped it about 2k miles ago. Car has had one valve cover fail and the waterpump a few years ago but its been very reliable and ive owned it from 17k to the almost 94 it has now
@@thomasmorris302 I love my sonic and all, but the valve cover and pcv system is hands down this engines achilles heel. both in reliability and performance. I have pushed then engine at 22psi for most of it's life, and blown 3 valve covers so far. the pcv system boost aside is prone to failure, but the worst thing about it is that if it fails under a load it will belch oil into the turbo, which can cause a lot of problems but also scared the living shit out of me several times over.
I have 55k on my 2019 Sonic. At 39,000 the waterpump went out. Just replaced the camshaft position sensors that were leaking oil. Next up will the 60k check up and sparkplug change. Turbo is good so far.
Curious as to why you replaced the camshaft position sensors and not just the seals? The seals are cheap and easy to replace. They are what leak oil in that area. I actually have a video on the procedure.
I didn't know I could just replace the seals when I ordered the parts. Garage estimated $760 to replace both. I figured paying $100 for both sensors with seals was a bargain compared to $760 and I wouldn't have deal with them for a while.
I got a Chevy Cruze 2 with almost 500,000 miles on it what I noticed about the purge valve frequently I found out it was very sensitive to overfilling the gas when you have gas pumping in it when it feels and the pump cut off do not put the extra 20 cent in it basically over stuff your gas tank and charcoal canister tank with a fumes ever since I stopped doing that I haven't had a issue in 4 years same purge valve I've now put about $150,000 Mi on the same purge valve
I own a 2015 chevy Sonic, same 1.4 turbo engine as the Cruze. I got the car at 90,000 miles. I've always kept up on oild changes every 3000 to 5000 miles. I had a water outlet crack on me, replaced it myself with an OEM GM one for like 50 bucks. 4 years later, that one cracked. It then got replaced with an upgraded metal one. Recently it hit 159,000 and my AC comressor that has been leaking finally went out, and my thermostat went out. I replaced the thermostat, and thats when my underboost code came up. I had a shop diagnose what the issue with the car was, and they determined my turbo is bad and needed replaced. Im now very curious if my underboost is from something else. I asked them what was wrong with it, and they just spouted general issues that theyve seen with the turbos in the Cruze's and Sonics and the common things that Ive already read about. Not saying their diagnosis was wrong, but I wonder if theyre making general assumptions about my car. Ive already ordered a new ZZP turbo and will be installing it on Wednesday, vut now want to check the catalysltics converters and see if i can find anything. Overall though, ive been VERY HAPPY with my sonic. Compared to my old 2005 Subaru Legacy GT, i feel my sonic has been WAY more reliable. I put thousands of dollars into my subaru every year, wheras in my Sonic, ive only put a couple hundered buck into my car very year.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! YOU'RE A GREAT GUY, YOU EVEN KEPT THE CAMERA ON THE ENGINE , ALLOWING US TO SEE THAT NOTHING WAS DONE OFF CAMERA!! GREAT VIDEO!!
I had this chattering on a 2016 limited edition Chevy Cruze, with a 2015 Ecotech 1.4 engine. Changed that exact part you suggested and saw it other videos too The car was garage kept, 50K miles. Chattering still happening. Yes, it could be an oil issue - I think what Scotty Kilmer was basically should have said "in a lot of cases" -- instead of "in every case". I wish your video was a 100% sure fix, but just like Scotty Kilmer, what he suggested, and what you suggested, not working for me in my particular case. I do agree, try the purge solenoid first. It's cheap. If that doesn't fix it, maybe Scotty Kilmer is right, and if he's not, it might be a unique situation depending on the particular vehicle.
I bought the 1.8 liter because I would rather change a timing belt that the 1.8 comes with rather then deal with a turbo. Yes the 1.4 has a chain but comes with turbo that I just do not want to deal with. I'm happy.
I've owned my 2011 1.8 cruze since new. Them boys always bragged how much better the 1.4 was. The 1.4 is dangerously underpowered to where I felt unsafe on the highway. Still have my 1.8 mt at 360,000km, just traded my 2015 1.4 sonic with 74,000km for a 2014 toyota venza. Gm should be put under for the garbage they are producing. Iam 39 Years old and have owed 2 pontiac sunbirds, oldsmobile alero, cadillac deville, cruze, sonic, 86 fiero gt which I still have. Iam done with gm. The cars are pure garbage now, plastic engines from China. Toyota all the way from here on out. My advice to anyone with a cruze or sonic either engine. If you don't like working on your cars, sell it asap.
To test if the noise is coming from the purge valve, simply remove the connector.. These usually make this noise and you can't do anything about it but to make it quieter you can put some engine oil in it using a syringe and it'll be as quiet as a brand new one. Of course if you have a check engine light then it's faulty.
They make noise when they are bad and engine temp is warmed up and I don't think I even had a check engine light when mine was bad. I think it was bad around 80k miles.
@@koreymayo8884 When it becomes dry and dirty on the inside the noise gets louder..that doesn't mean it's bad so putting a lubricant inside helps clean and lubricate things and make it quieter..when it stops working and doing its job that's when the ECU triggers the check engine light.. usually causes small leak codes like P0456. Also sometimes the engine will shudder as if there is a misfire happening especially when the gas cap is opened and this is when the valve is stuck open and unmetered air is allowed into the system..so either way from my experience, Spraying a cleaner inside and then a lubricant will fix it for you and you don't have to replace it.
Scotty is comparing this to the 2.2 and 2.4 ecotechs which had timing chain issues because of lack of oil changes and non dexos oil. The oil monitor was set wrong on the 2.4 and the carbon from direct injection and clogged tensioner cause timing chain failure. The 1.4 is different in compression and the oil monitor is different as noted if you remove the valve cover and easyily tell if the chain is bad
My car has makes noise when cold start and then goes away after about 30 seconds or so. I have no codes and car runs fine. Kinda sounds like an exhaust leak, but I’m not 100 percent that’s what it is will a bad timing chain do that? Wouldn’t a bad chain through a code? Hope I hear back from you thanks buddy great work.
Ive helped profession technicians fix their rides. Those air leaks air a major overlooked and often easy fix too. I should charge them thousand dollars like they do me lol
I agree with where you're coming from at the end, i refuse to work on European vehicles. I have no knowledge base or experience with their systems or really much interest in them. Specialty is a great route, only risk is getting bored from repetitive work.
Daughter bought a Encore. Have that noise. Very loud. Not the solenoid. Think its a lifter. Saw another video about the timing chain guide. Pulled the cover. Sure enough the guide bolts were loose. Fixed that. Sound still there but a little bit quieter. However, when I changed the oil I found that it hadn’t been changed for what looks like 100k. I wish I had a picture of the filter. 🤮 Hoping to do a crankcase flush and clean things up a bit. Have to look into the turbo and cat issues. End of your video, that engine does not sound a lot better. It’s rattling like a pair of castonettes. Sounds just like mine!!😂. Hoping the flush helps. Watch Eric the Car Guy’s video on engine flushes though. Very good guy.
I bought a 2016 Buick Encore with the 1.4T and it did indeed have a stretched chain. Got codes for camshaft / crankshaft correlation. Removed valve cover and had a wobbly chain on the side without the tensioner. I bought the kit on Amazon with water pump/timing cover and valve cover gaskets and did it all myself in 2 days with just a floor jack. All in all parts were ~$200. CAR HAD 87K Miles but maintenance was lacking. Also it sounded nothing like this sound in your video. You could clearly hear the chain smacking the side of the black when it came around. Especially when revving it up. Sidenote: Not sure if you know but the design of these engines was purchased by GM from daewoo (South Korean Automaker) and those didn't do well in the USA with daewoo pulling out of the US market in 02. I just dont think theyre the most reliable thing in the world with constant coolant leaks and common head-gasket failure
i've had the check engine light on for about 10k miles not for a bad catalytic converter and a bad o2 sensor, i just have a leak by my downpipe. a lot of weird check engine lights on these cars, mainly because the check engine light is linked to something else with these engines.
yeah man i had this exact thing happen. Good information, when i had to hunt this one down it was a pain. I was hunting everywhere for a boost leak. hope this video saves someone else the trouble. oh also, about the timing chain. I looked it up one time with the gm service manual. it is listed as a EOL (end of life) part, not part of standard service.
Scotty Kilmer is freaking hilarious buddy, who actually care what he thinks about Chevy cars in general or any other car brand, I dont at all like most people, but the way he is and talks abt stuff is pure entertainment at least to me, when.he mention about junk yard in his videos and putting Chevy Dealer in that moment is freaking awesome 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
True lol. He is very entertaining to watch, but it kills me that he costs that customer a lot of money after saying 3 other mechanics misdiagnosed it and calls himself an expert and then misdiagnoses it himself.
These are great motors. Just needs regular maintenance. Thise chains don't break!! 220k miles plus. Also if you can get access to an hp tuner or any tuner and lower the engine coolant temp to 185-195 instead of 230 degrees 🤔 otherwise known as please melt my motor ,turbo and any plastic near the motor asap. Hahaha. Lower the Temps see a huge reliability increases
Oh my gosh I have had such problems but with the 2015 Chevy track I've got so many codes and it's not even running now after the p300 I am disabled seeing you citizen need a car it has been parked for about 1 year can you help me I
I liked your video, I'm in the process of buying a 2013 Sonic ltz turbo it has 109,000 miles on it when I got back from my test drive I popped the hood and heard a very faint ticking sound. I like the car and it's in my price range and it goes really good, not sluggish at all. Should I be nervous to jump at this deal? Is the timing chain job really expensive just in case I ever have to get it done.
A timing chain job is always expensive, but this car shouldn't need it, but there are tons of other things that always break and have to be replaced on cruze/sonic. I don't think a single year has gone by without me having to replace something on the cruze and only drive 6,000 to 8,000 miles a year! I would recommend a toyota corolla, honda civic, or Mazda 3 instead.
@Robert Perry on the CR-Z don't get a first year 2011, but all the other years are good. On the CR-V they are up and down over the years, so research on consumer reports and carcomplaints.com
Idk stay away from these spend the extra money and get a Honda or toyota I just got a Chevy Cruze 2013 been to the mechanic 3 times and I can just tell stuff eventually gonna go just cos of how it was made
Hey Korey maybe you can help me my 2012 sonic is consistently throwing a P00B6 code I’ve replaced all 3 sensors in the radiator the gooseneck and the one behind the gooseneck. Did ok after changing the rad sensor for a couple days then same code again I’ve checked wiring and cleaned with contact cleaner switched around 2 of the sensors to see if problem moved it didn’t so. The fault code keeps coming back 3 codes one of them being permanent can you help
I'm currentlybin the process of buying a chevy sonic sedan 2012 with 95000km with ac compressor not working i personally dont mind it . What do you think?
2012 is the first year and absolute worst year for the sonic. I would avoid it at all cost. If you are dead set on a sonic then get a 2015 or newer to avoid problems. You can see all the problems on different sonic years yourself here... www.carcomplaints.com/Chevrolet/Sonic/
As you can see on car complaints the first 3 years 2012-2014 had the most problems just like 2011-2013 chevy cruze before they put a better wastegate acuator on the turbo, better cooling on the turbo, and better pistons in the engine.
In Scottys defense three mechanics looked at it. And do you have same codes and scanner showing timing fluxuation? It seems any body could easily hear that sound coming from top of the engine. I still trust Scottys videos. Of course Im not there
Timing can fluctuate for more reasons than just needing a timing chain replaced. A good technician would do a more thorough investigation. There's a lot of mechanics out there that don't know what they are doing and also a lot of mechanics that waste people's money for unnecessary work. If you trust all of scottys videos, then you are gullible. Some of his videos are on point, and some are way off. He is hit and miss.
@@WhatDoesEvilMean the same goddamn thing! lol. Literally the same motor, literally the same transmission, and literally made by the same piece of shit company. General Motors.
Can anyone help me I have the same 1.4 turbo engine and mine shakes it’s really annoying and it’s got that same clicking noise but if that’s all it is it’s a easy fix
I would say the Chevy trax 2017, reliability I would rate it 3.5 out of 5. It’s not that bad. At 65k miles I had to replace the turbo because it was leaking, also I have to replace the timing belt soon because of its mileage. However comparing it to like Toyota or Honda SUVs yes I would go those brands, chevy I would consider it if I where you, unless you want to find out yourself. From my experience I have a 1991 Toyota Camry with original 134k miles, just about a month ago a major leak happened on the oil pan gasket. I took it to my mechanic and he told me that there was a major leak not only in the gasket of the oil pan but also where the timing belt is at. Yes I had to pay 1,200$ to replace all that but if you look at reliability it took over 30 years for that to wear out. Lately there has been many people who’ve offered me 5,000$ for the Camry, I would never that vehicle go 😅So there you have it folks……Toyota and Honda vehicles are much reliable.
Yeah except certain Honda models have bad automatic transmissions and a few 4 cylinder toyota engines had piston oil return holes that were too small and caused massive oil burning for a few years, but Toyota, Honda, Mazda, and Subaru are the most reliable these past 10 years. And some Kia/Hyundai/and Genesis are good too depending on the model. A lot of Kia/Hyundai engine problems are actually from owners going way too long between oil changes. It has to do with the type of person that buys those vehicles. They buy a car that cost less than all other car brands and then don't spend money on proper maintenance on top of the fact that kia/Hyundai manuals already tell you to go 7500 miles for regular and 10000 miles for synthetic and then some people go twice as long as that further compounding the problem. Even with modern oils I still go by 3 to 4000 for regular and 5 to 6000 for high quality synthetic like mobil 1 because oil is cheap, engines are not and you can never change it too much.
Continuation where are you located can you please help the senior disabled person that badly needs her car back I'm on a very strict budget Chevrolet wants $190 just to look at it help how do I reach you where do I go
I mean, i hear what youre saying and i agree with you for the most part.....but chevys are notorious for plagues of problems. I had several chevy cars includingbthe Sonic and cobalt. Both engine shot before 100k miles. I also had an impala v6 that blew the tranny at 112k.
Geez man that's terrible and I've had too many problems with GM cars and seen way too many problems with Fords from my other family members, so I'm most likely sticking with Japanese cars from now on and maybe Korean Kia/Hyundai.
I'VE SEARCH FAR & WIDE FOR THE REQUIRED AMOUNT OF TRANSMISSION FLUID NEEDED UPON REPLACEMENT. I 'VE READ THAT THE AMOUNT IS DETERMINED BY PROPER FLUID TEMP. ( 185F -203F ). I'M HAVING TROUBLE REACHING THE MINIMUM TEMP. ; I TRIED LETTING THE CAR IDLE FOR MAYBE 30 MIN. WHILE SHIFTING GEARS ( 5 SEC. INTERVALS WITH ONE FOOT ON BRAKE & ONE ACELLERATING IN DRIVE , REVERSE & 1ST GEARS & ONLY REACHED 151F. I DROVE THE CAR 94 MILES (TEMP. MEASURED 135F AFTER A 15 MIN WAIT). AFTER THESE FAILED ATTEMPTS, I DECIDED TO ADD 4 1/4 QUARTS (APPEARS TO BE AVG. AMT. REFILLED IN SEVERAL VIDEOS ), NEVERTHELESS, I VALUE YOUR OPINION IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS. THANKS
I have a 2013 Chevy Sonic, 215,000+ miles and going. I have a really bad clicking noise too. But it’s not the same as yours. It’s slower and louder sounds like it’s coming from behind the engine. I’m looking around to know what it is.

The problem with these mechanics is they don’t do any research, they just trust their tools and think they know everything. When there is more info online than they know.
I used to watch Scotty when he was in Texas he knows a lot for sure but the click bait for views type videos I have no interest in them like this is it I'm done see ya . You go to the video and it has nothing to do with what he was talking about it was just a click bait to get you to watch this video if you watch it for 30 seconds and he gets paid if you're subscribed. I also seen him one time avoid this car like the plague and then like a year later let me tell you how this car is the best one to have in the world????? Sorry Scotty know 30 seconds tonight.
Your video does have value but your critique of Scotty is off. You didn’t address the timing variations he’s showed us on that car which indicated the loose chain.
Worse thing you can do with a turbo equipped engine is let it sit and idle. That turbo needs air flowing over it to keep cool and sitting there running like you are doing really heats them up. Yes exhaust flows through that impeller full time.
I was advised by a mechanic that once I get to where I am going, to sit and idle for 30-60 seconds to let everything cool off a bit before shutting the car down. Especially if it was a long stretch of highway driving right before. Is this bad to do? I don't sit and idle for 5 minutes or let it idle on a cold start except until the RPMs die down, but merely 30-60 seconds once I get to my destination just to give everything a second to cool off.. is that wrong of me to do? I have a 2012 1.4 turbo
"Here's why Scotty Kilmer was wrong about 1.4 Chevy Sonic/ Cruze timing chain and underboost codes!" Well of course he got it wrong, he sounds drunk half the time
Every word Scotty Kilmer says, take it with many grains of salt. Scotty blows his own horn and pretty much rides on other mechanic’s knowledge. Has anyone noticed that he doesn’t show any complex repairs on his videos. It is always shade tree mechanical repairs. There is a reason why because he doesn’t have the knowledge.
He is always blowing his own horn. He has a big Ego! I didn't think of it until you mentioned it, but I've never seen him do a big complex job, such as engine repair.
Dont say the word hate when you are talking about someone, even if its about how you dont hate someone. You shouldnt hate anyone for any reason. Too much stress.
But the sound still the same... please fix the sound and make a video that the sound is off and its wasn't the timing chain... i kind of agree with you... but fixing the that sound... will make you like give you point for fixing that.
You are hearing the fuel injectors...sounds like a sewing machine. 100% normal. If you are expecting no click noises, you are going to be disappointed.

Keep on keeping on man
Thanks so much!
I have the EXACT same sound in my cruze and I am going to change this tomorrow, thanks for making the video
Welcome
Glad I found this video, I have the same motor in my Trax and already brought the piece to change, thanks
Replaced my purge assembly at 90 k have 160k now starting to tick again 2013 Cruze . Will check timing chain guide to.
This video was very helpful Korey! My Sonic has been such a headache since
I bought it in 2017. And right now I have to replace the oil feed line, fix coolant leaking for the 50th time, and replace engine mounts and tie rods. I'm thankful for how far it's taken me though. Like you said, few hundred dollars and not a thousand..
Engine mounts?? Why would you need to replace those? They should last a long time with a small engine like this
That’s why I say these are junk owned one never again lol
I have same underboost code, and i never thought about catalytic issues. I'm gonna stick a camera inside tu see how much dirty have in it.
Thank you the tip.
You’re correct. A proper diagnosis should’ve been done.
I plan to buy a sonic turbo soon, a cheap fun daily that allows me to have an easy to work engine bay. Sounds nice
Don't do it lots of other more reliable more powerful cars you can get for the same price this is just one of the issues these engines have
My 2015 starting making that really loud ticking noise around 91k, researched it and verified it was that purge valve and swapped it about 2k miles ago. Car has had one valve cover fail and the waterpump a few years ago but its been very reliable and ive owned it from 17k to the almost 94 it has now
You're lucky you got that year because 2014 and 2015 are the most reliable first gens!
The valve cover is GM's fault they should pay for it, any smog device pcv is supposed to last 100,000 miles if not the manufacture must fix
@@thomasmorris302 it was covered under warranty, not sure if it happens again if they will cover it
@@thomasmorris302 I love my sonic and all, but the valve cover and pcv system is hands down this engines achilles heel. both in reliability and performance.

Thanks for saving my time telling me to watch another video. That’s almost 15 minutes of yapping I didn’t have to hear.
@TheFunKing33 Dang that sucks man. Were they easy to change at least?
Thank you!
Hoping to do a crankcase flush and clean things up a bit.
Did it help?
I thought the same thing when I watched that video Scotty Kilmer did
I bought a 2016 Buick Encore with the 1.4T and it did indeed have a stretched chain.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEOOOOOO
Really helpful. Thanks for the info
Mine when out on my Cruze at 8000 miles! Easy replacement 18.00
What's all that turquoise colored upgrades on the engine. Was it worth it?
i've had the check engine light on for about 10k miles not for a bad catalytic converter and a bad o2 sensor, i just have a leak by my downpipe. a lot of weird check engine lights on these cars, mainly because the check engine light is linked to something else with these engines.
yeah man i had this exact thing happen.

Right on. Yeah Scotty is fun to watch and the way he talks with his hands is entertainment too.
And yes that's. Norma for the purge valve l see the 1.4 turbo all the time with just under 200k maintenance and oil change keeps any engine running

That's a code for multiple cylinders misfiring. Need to have coil pack and spark plugs checked. I would start there.
I would recommend a toyota corolla, honda civic, or Mazda 3 instead.

was the purge valve bad or did you just change it because the noise
If the purge valve is making noise then it is bad.
Hi but what about the timing that was changing a lot when idling? that was his most significate sign about the timing chain...
Yes. This video is incorrect. Scotty was right.

Scotty Kilmer can't be too bad since obviously you were able to describe his actions.
I’m getting the sound but no check engine

That's amazing milage especially for a first year cruze. Is it a 1.4 or a 1.8 and automatic or manual?
@Korey Mayo 1.4 automatic.. It's been a great car
@str8 menace I'm surprised the automatic transmission lasted that long! Chevy cruze and great car don't usually go together in the same sentence from most owners lol. How often do you change the transmission fluid?
@Korey Mayo and don't be thinking I baby this thing either.. typical man child acting like Tokyo drift... I've done a pcv delete , ported intake, and changed oil around 3.5k, Trans fluid 75k or when I decide. I've owned chevys my whole life and I think they like to be beat as long as you take care of them. My 09 silverado has 309k all original
@@str8menace923 how did you do a pcv delete?? My 2011 1.4 turbo has terrible idle, hesitation, and a terrible noise from the engine and I’d like to get rid of any problematic parts that I can lol
