He’ll become one of the all time greats.

He's had one good season, with own flaws of course, but to call him generational is crazy, there's a reason amongst the reviews for Pedri, Bellingham, Gavi, Musiala and Camavinga, the only one that has shown the tempo, calma and ability to be generational is Pedri. Everyone else has qualities that certainly can be highlighted and have been proven in tougher leagues, we haven't seen Arda Guler against tougher opposition which is the concerning part.

Yes everyone can get stronger compared to their own 17yr old self but you have to develop into a world class athlete too and that is not always guaranteed. A lot of diminutive playmaker types fail because of this reason despite looking so intelligent for their age.

That he had in Barca with Pedri, Gabi and Gündogan feeding him with 1 simple passes and he is assisting Lewa. Now he has Bellingham and Vini who want to have the ball as well and his assists will be wasted by Rodyrigo. You cannot be Özil with Rodyrigo, you need a CR if you have good assisting skills.

I am surprised how many people are worried about his future in Madrid. Many of u forget RM have two veterans in the probably final year of their careers in the midfield. And than, there is Ceballos, who is good, but for sure will not be a starter and could be offloaded preferenatially if necessary...Guler has the luxury of being able to play in various positions and is very young, so he will and can expect to follow Vini and Rodrygo way of development, what means he is not gonna play every single game. Thats how it goes with most of the youngsters in matured teams. Yet it has worked out for Vini, Rodrygo, Valverde and Cama in the very recent time, so I see no problem. The only needed things of him are workethics, focus and patience. He has likely the best enviroment to develop and than take over from legends like Kroos or Modric and in a year he can be a prominent first team player. And dont forget, team like RM cant play with 11 players and no bench to rotate them. So if managed right, it should be all fine with Arda...

II am writing as a Galatasaray supporter, the arch-rival of Fenerbahce, where Arda plays. In my opinion, Fenerbahçe coach jorge jesus spent Arda a bit last season. The boy was very talented and did not play until the middle of the season. If he had played, I think the champion would have been Fenerbahçe, not my team. In the second half of a whole season, this kid was put on the field with very few starting 11s. Whatever he did, he did it in a limited time and in only 1-2 national matches. No one knows what else he can do because he hasn't been given the chance. So whatever he did, he did in this short period of time and he raised him to real madrid. Now he will display his skills more comfortably among top football players. Sure, if it takes time. I agree that he is physically weak and his dribbling speed is slow, but he can close the speed issue with his high technical level. I think this kid will look more like Bruyne. Long, off-foot passes, intermediate passes are the strongest part in my opinion. Even his corners are deadly accurate. As a matter of fact, if he develops his physique fast, he will be a fascinating genius. Of course, we will follow the Madrid matches. Congratulations on your analysis.

Very good video, well put. I also would like to point out that Arda is really inexperienced. He achieved everything in a really short amount of playtime. He barely has a 2000 minute playtime in the professional level. I agree that he is not that rapid, but I'd say he also increased his pace compared to last year. Despite how low ranked Turkish league is, I have to say it's a tough league to play if you are young since defenders are tend to stop you with fouls only.

Last year, there was no teammate around whom he could shine his quality. Ferdi was the only one who could keep up with his quality. You'll see this if you look at their double play. We've all seen the balls spent from corners in all the videos. Sometimes the team was so bad that Arda wanted to do something on his own and could make some loseballs. Enner Valencia has spent at least 10 assists from Arda. There was no one in the midfield that he could get help from while setting up the game. I think he can turn into an incredible monster in a place like Madrid where there are elite level players.

First, the comparison to younger Messi is just laughable. Being a RM fan, I still think even if Guler reaches 80% of Messi he'd win multiple ballon d'ors and be considered one of the best ever.
As for playing time, I don't understand the concern. He will fill Asensio's role for the upcoming season and will only have to compete with Rodrygo who's not a natural RW. Vini shouldn't play as many minutes as he did last season where he needed a rest and was exhausted. So, there's plenty of time between Vini, Rodrygo and Guler. Next season Modric will retire and there will more shoes to fill and more opportunities for youngers to compete for playing time.
So it's not like he's coming at the time of prime Bale or Ozil ahead of him. He'll be fine.

alot of comparisons have been made but i havent seen much about how similar he is to griezmann. not just him being a left footed winger/ CAM, but his prowess in his finesse shots and willingness and discipline to help out in defence and win aerial battles were all attributes griezmann championed during his first stint in atletico. (watch piotr foot's video, its brilliant)
however, a big worry most Real fans should take note of is the fact that since benzema's departure, their front three are now lacking in aerial prowess, with vini and rodrygo already being less that 6 foot. (you already said something similar regarding physicality)
they already got fran garcia back, with his crossing being one of his best attributes but i dont see them using it much unless they get someone who can slot in their headers. you could already see this during games where benzema wasnt playing, with crosses not being utilised much, another element of their attack is canceled out, making them much more predictable.

Thanks for your great video and analysis. As a Trabzonspor fan in Turkiye, it’s been a real joy to watch this kid. Honestly, the main comparison must be with Hagi, his playing style is quite comparable with Hagi in terms of reading the game, vision, long and accurate shots, long and incredible passes, short passes, positioning during the game and his ability to pass the opponents very quickly. The weakness is as mentioned his pace, dribbling ability and physical condition. Still, if you have all the potential for a number 10, you can overcome these negative sides. My only concern is actually the time and the mentality of playing football is far different comparing Hagi’s time. Today, the pace is too important as todays football is not played slow as 90s and early 2000s. All aside, i am sure he will be key player starting from even early period in his first season in 2023-4. Let’s hope to watch another legend for coming 15-20 years. 🎉

When it comes to the fact that his potential is not yet tested in a bigger league... There's a second dimension to it. His talents are also not tested within a great team. Neither strikers nor midfielders were the best in Fenerbahce. So, when he took the ball, there was not enough players who were showing him a nice run to pass... or players who form passing triangles, etc.
At Real, he'll have Vini and Rodrygo making clever runs and fine finishes, so his passing technique and vision won't be wasted. also, Bellingham, Tchou, Camavinga, Valverde or Modric will be very much helpful for him to hold the ball much less on his foot, and focus on his real genius in playmaking.

I could see him developing into a possession Wide Winger like Bernardo Silva or Ozil even, he doesn't have the amazing speed of a young Messi but his tight space dribbling, and playmaking could be enough to have him play there. Given, he's faster than a couple wide players such as Ryan Cherki, for example, so Guler could have a future there. But given his versatility he could also slot in to midfield and play there, don't know where he will fit at Madrid though. It seems to me for a young player to work at Real it's a lot about circunstance, who he has in front of him, does the coach like to use youngsters, does Florentino Perez goes crazy and gets a star that plays in the same position. Why didn't we go for this guy instead of Havertz?

On the last chart you say he is quicker than Özil and more agile but Özil was rapid in his younger years and definitely quicker than Arda. Arda has more physicality though which shows in his aerial duels like you stated.

I also think Ozil had more burst in terms of power but in terms of just little acceleration into space over short distances he is quicker. Ozil underrated athletically though as a youngster

no he wasnt. I have been following Özil from Schalke days when he was unknown. he had never been faster than Arda and he didnt have such dribbling skills.

Excellent work as usual... I was wondering if you could do one for Vitor Roque?

I really hope he does not go to 'Real'. He could end up wasting years of his career as bench warmer / journeyman or worse at Real B. People talk about Haaland and Mbappe as the air to Messi and Ronaldo, when they could have been talking about Ødegaard. The right move early in your career is so important.

Exactly. He doesn't have Messi's explosiveness. The thing that immediately stood out to me when they're compared
