Quick guide to Vampires! Starting rosters, advice on skills, tips & tricks - (Blood Bowl 2-the Sage)

- In this guide I will offer advice on the Vampires team: how to start off with them, how to play them, and how to develop the team to its full potential. I go over the skill options for both the vampire and the thrall, and discuss both how to best deal with bloodlust, and how to best make use of hypnotic gaze.

I for one think 2 vamps are too few. As you said thralls are there for the vamps but stdrting with just 2... well you are essentially playing a team of thralls and thats not a very good team. I guess its reasonable to begin with 3 if you've never tried them before but 4 is duable too. Its just all about the positioning and planning but having 4 vamps around is just so good at disrupting your opponent and thadt why you want to play vamps to begin with
Agree. I have tried strategy with 2 vamps and I think it was weak. And then I tried 3, and it felt better. Today, after playing 5 games with nurgle team where I liked to have 4 nurgle warriors - I realized that I want to try team of 4 vampires. :)
The true weakness of the vamire team is their MA that doesn't allow you to play agility and their low AV that doesn't allow you to play bash
That's why I'm glad my count dracula just rolled a +MA

Great advice. Subscribed. You sure know a lot about Bloodbowl. Vamps are one of my most anticipated teams(along with Amazons) but they sure look tricky to manage. Chaos Dwarves have become my main currently(I have a lvl 7 strength 4 Agility 4 Hobgoblin with blodge, tackle, sure hands, etc). I previously mained Wood Elves and Chaos depending on my mood, but play all teams.

Wish they plan on changing the thrall model and animations becaouse,as they are,they are a reskined Human Lineman and i really hate that animation.
If anything the human linemen need new models - they all look like old men past their prime... Not the team designed to be most versatile in style. Thralls are literally just human slaves there to make up numbers and sate the hunger of the vampires, not worth the effort and money really.
Francis Dickinson I get that but just giving them something different wouldn't hurt,with the current animations they dont look like thralls enslaved by the vampires they just look like linemen with makeup,but the vampires look awesome, love the floating helmets.

Ianassa91 Yes. because of that its kinda lame and some times weird,the eye thing they do,like "i am watchng you" can look weird at times when they are pointing at nothing or when facing a Big Guy.Like yeah i bet you would be that cocky in front of a Minotaur with Claw,MB,Block lol.I don't, for me it doesn't fit Blood Bowl it would have been better to keep the animations subtle so they dont get boring but its cool,sry for shouting my stupid opinons at you :p
Only just started playing Vampires; this was very helpful! Frustrating, rewarding, and hella fun! I am leaning towards three Vampires, though. Riskier, but gives me more options.
I haven't had a chance to use him yet, but it looks like Luther Von Drakenburg doesn't have Bloodlust? That's a massive positive if so.
I'm glad it helps! Yeah, many teams have a big guy with +ST and no negatrait, he's theirs (though technically not a big guy). Similar to deeproot strongbranch (no take root), ripper (no really stupid), grashnak blackhoof (no wild animal).
Would you not recommend Thick Skull on thralls if they rolled doubles to keep them on the field longer?

i love vampires but i probably will go with 4 rrs and 3 vamps, i don't want those pesky thralls geting the mvps :P and i absolutly want 6 of them... if i can xD
I like having 4 vamps eventually, but like having some skills on them before getting more of them.

The more vamps the worst they tend to get,as sage said,I would get 4 max and thats only with a full bench of thralls,having 6 vamps and 5 thralls at one time means a lot of Team RR used and a lot of KO'd or worse thrall and also turnovers but it would be interesting to get 6 but to bench some so the ones on the pitch can snack freely.
I've started a team with 6 vampires from the start in bb1.. it was horrible, 10 lost games in a row but, after then, the vamps got a ton of skills, even one +1 str and other +1 agi, and, buying a ton of rrs and thralls the things started to go nicely, 6 vampires at the same time on the pitch is really a bad idea, that's for sure, and surely i'll never start with 6 again xD but it was quite fun and, probably, i'll get 6 of them but not puting them all at the same time in the pitch, having all 6 of them doesn't meen you have to get all of them at the same time.
7-1-10 was the record of the team, and i've make a ton of mistakes with level up, because i was quite newbie by then, a ton of +av (now i see them and i want to cry xD) after that i have 15 players and 4 rrs which is gr8
Why have 6 if you're not going to field them though? Unless you have a sacker and a thrower, you want all of them on the pitch. If you only want 4 on the pitch, why bloat with the other 2? Between blodge, regen and the apo, they tend to stick around.
Sage you didn't mention fend for the thralls, Is it in your opinion a good skill for them? For me fend can allow your thralls to be more mobile by staying out of the foe takle zone
Meh, I don't really care for it too much. It's OK as a second or third skill, but I'd rather get tackle, strip ball and kick with my wrestlers.
9:40 i believe he is thrall rathet then vampire, he doesn't have hypno gaze etc. and looks more like a human then vampire
trudny1 I don't think Sage ever said he was a Vampire,but the fact that you can bite him makes him a better tharll becaouse of Thick Skull since it helps him from getting Ko'd to much.

I didn't mean HE was a vampire, I meant he is Vampire (the team)'s unique star. Having thick skull AND regen does make him really good at his job of getting sucked on.

Wet Bandit Studios end of your move, hit square for actions to hypno stare. Success means that player loses their tackle zones, so do it in anticipation of doing something else.

Start with 2 or 3, only get 4 once you have more safe guards (blodge, pro, leader on a thrall, etc) and learn their play style better. More vamps means your team is scary when you roll well but hopeless when you don't. I've seen a well developed team run 4 and a star player 5 and it didn't implode, but all the vamps had 3+ skills
I like starting with 2, getting new ones when the existing ones have 16+ SPP, and go to 4, max. I might go to 5 if most of them have pro, though. This is because of how fast you'll eat your RRs/thralls.
Which team will be your first to try out when the expansion hits?
Kislev, definitely. I've played all of these 8 races on FUMBBL before, and they're one of my most played races there. I'll probably do a game with each race, but I'm switching to Kislev in the Twitch Blood Bowl League.
Heard that Sage will make Kislev for champ ladder too ^^

I think you run out of either thralls or rerolls far too soon. If you happen to make your bloodlust rolls, it's great.

Vampires should start with some skills. Maybe even blodge, that will make them at least competitive.
Vampires are already debatably the strongest positional in bloodbowl. They are extremely flexible, very resilient, they can do everything when they are skilled up. The issue with vampires are their early game and consistency. They are a unit where you need to be very careful with buffs because they can already be pretty insane. If the vampires need buffs its that Thralls need something, or that vamps need a 3rd positional something that can carry, or even just economic changes which makes fielding 4 vamps easier to accomplish with the rerolls to support it.
I pretty much exclusively played vampires on chaos edition and once you have a agil 5 vampire with sidestep blodge and pro you kinda start to see how insane they can be, the issue is getting to that point.
AjaXxXDenia Making them start with blodge would be way too good,they already have GAS skills,and while i see you're point,i would like they would get an extra postional like a Count with Pro and something else,but as they are they can be really good if you have good player placement.
Well... yeah, blodge is too much, but I do believe vampire teams are lacking... something, when you start a new team. "Only" HypnoGaze in probably 2 or 3 players tops, players that also have a negatrait that can injure your players...
That's the thing. Getting started with a Vampire team it's very hard. I know blodge is asking for too much but a positional with a skill (maybe Sure hands) would make them stop being considered one of the lower teams.

Same, and it was a lot of fun to get away with so much BS once they get running, also fun to eat up valuable enemy pieces with a "killer" vamp piece (mighty blow, piling on). But yeah getting there is tough and games against anything but running teams pretty ugly for me. I've seriously just been waiting for vamps to buy this sequel though haha.

the_sage I think you said 3-6. I might take it on six if I didn't get stats but there are other more useful skills. I was thinking I would never use it for lust but as long as you already have a failsafe ready it is useful.
It's useful for lust (and if it fails you bite a thrall), for gaze, and for other stuff like blocks, sometimes.
Wow I thought vampires sucked hard (:P) after I beat them online with hobbits but there ability doesn't sound so bad now.... Although having the best player in the game gives you the age old gutter runner problem of being stomped to death
