Hi, I was really struck by the beauty of "Motion Detection", a thriller book that I found by chance on Amz while looking for a new book. The cover intrigued me, it's an unusual book with a spectacular ending, I highly recommend it!
Gosh Kayla... your planning for videos is superb! I really appreciate the level of detail you include. Your opening 30 seconds, while seemingly simple, was really thoughtful -- adding all of the books you've previously recommended to scroll across the bottom of the video is *really* appreciated! You're so good at what you do. :)
The last time you did this, you recommended Cemetery Boys when I said I wanted real world with witchy vibes (in the realm of Summer of Salt) and I LOVED it! 😃I'd seen the book around before that, but that was the comparison that sold me. You have a real knack for describing and recommending books!
I always enjoy backlist titles because they're easier to get thru the library. I'm just now starting to get the new release holds from last October. 😂 But if we're going way back, I'll always recommend Michael McDowell, specifically The Amulet for cursed object vibes, Cold Moon Over Babylon and Blackwater for swampy ghosts and water horror.
The September house did not make it to the bookclub list but it's my favorite book of the year so far and it's a haunted house story!! Strongly recommend as well!
I think you might like some Darcy Coates' books, she's really good at both cozy horror and also just making you feel claustrophobic and like your being watched. The Haunting of Ashburn House, Hunted and Gallows hills are my favorites. I think you'd like her books a lot.
Ooh lots of fab fall recs. The Inbetween and Come Closer are calling. I need to actually read some Stephen King fiction. I can’t believe I haven’t. Love the cover of The Grip of It. Sounds intriguing too. Ooh I have Bad Cree on my shelves.
I love these videos of recommendation from you sooooo much! I have read so much better books this year due to your recommendations. Thank you for all you do!
Fall is definitely my favorite season and winter is second. My reading picks up in the fall because I love to get cozy with a good atmospheric book, witchy, academic, mysterious and thrilling are best!
Thanks for these great recommendations! Tell Me I'm Worthless by Alison Rumfitt is a really interesting and original "haunted house" story. Very dark but I enjoyed the language and themes a great deal.
I read The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon as a 12 year old when it came out and I remember really loving it. I was just talking about it the other day and thinking about re-reading it.
there’s a book called the very secret society of irregular witches and it’s my favourite book i’ve read this year! it’s witchy (obviously) and it has found family and it gave me all the feelings (but there are some mentions of abuse, and although they weren’t very detailed i would still recommend looking at the content warnings) LMAO I WASNT UP TO THE PART WHERE YOU RECOMMENDED IT
One of my favorite Haunted House books is Smithy by Amanda Desiree. A good backlist (2017) eerie book for the autumn/spooky season is The Silent Companions by Laura Percell. Ring Shout by P.Djeli Clark is one of my favorite novellas.
if you loved Legends and Lattes and want more of that found family cozyiness in a supernatual characters version I highly reccommend The Only Purple House in Town by Ann Aguirre it's technically part of series but definetly can be read on it's own.
😭😭😭 I was hoping September House was going to be SPOOKY!!! Ah well, I'll still read it. Never heard of Alice's Island...onto the TBR she goes. ❤ Love Laurel Hightower, and Come Closer was definitely unsettling.
Black sheep is pretty spooky. The subject matter is not what I expected & I don’t want to spoil it so please look at trigger warnings. I do not read it at night because the subject matter scares me lol
I just got legacy for witches by Cass Kay and Mark of The wicked by Georgia Bowers, September House by Carissa Orlando, The ghost and Mrs Mewer by Krista Davis, My roommates a vampire by Jenna Levine, All Hallows By Christopher Golden
Yessss. Buy it. It's so cozy. A little bulkier than I expected so maybe try on in-person first (if you haven't already) to see if you need to size down!
So curious what you would think of The St. Ambrose School for Girls. I just read it and loved it. It has a low Good Reads rating, but I know that doesn’t deter you. 😂
if i remember correctly, i think she was sent it and started it and decided it wasn’t for her. but i can’t remember for sure and don’t remember which vlog it was mentioned in!
Despite its low GR rating, I really like The Grip of It a lot. I loved the eerie setting and watching what was happening with their relationship amidst the scary and stressful happenings.
Grady Hendrix has his Paperbacks from Hell - it's about the old school '70s and '80s horror books, for those who want non current horror recommendations 🤷🏻♀️
Kayla representing the Veronica Speedwell series 👏👏👏 this is the stuff I live for

As a Texan, saying Autumnal is difficult. 😂
Love these recommendation videos. Thank you. ❤
I paused the video, went and downloaded A Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, listened to it over the past two days, and now I’m back! Lol

I'm in the middle of Nettle and Bone, and I'm living it. Great to hear other books by this author may be even better :)
The September house did not make it to the bookclub list but it's my favorite book of the year so far and it's a haunted house story!! Strongly recommend as well!

I couldn’t put Slewfoot down. Soooo good!
The Women Could Fly book cover is stunning!!
Loving the gorgeous hair colour ❤
Wild how relevant these are for me, I just finished the very secret society of irregular witches & I’m in the middle of Bad Cree!
the girl who loved tom gordon is somehow the only stephen king book i’ve read so i LOVE to see it recommended !!
Love the hair! Thanks for the recs! Happy fall!
I loved the September House! So good, especially for a debut novel!
I think you might like some Darcy Coates' books, she's really good at both cozy horror and also just making you feel claustrophobic and like your being watched. The Haunting of Ashburn House, Hunted and Gallows hills are my favorites. I think you'd like her books a lot.
Any book by Frances Hardinge gives me massive fall / autumn vibes.
Oooh I got The Women Could Fly at a Little Free Library while on vacation last month. This definitely moved it up my list
Unlikely Animals is an exceptional book and the ending just absolutely wrecked me.
This is perfect timing. I was just watching the 2 videos mentioned last night 😂
these are all great!! always happy to see legends and lattes on any list.

Thanks for the novella rec! I’ve had my eye on it. Will definitely have to get to it. Nettle and Bone is an ALL TIME FAVOURITE
I would love for you to finish the rest of the regency faire tale series! Longshadow (the 3rd) one is so good and perfect for fall!
I loved The September House!
I love the fall because my birth anniversary is in late October. 🍁🍂
Love the autumn vibes.
Fall is definitely my favorite season and winter is second. My reading picks up in the fall because I love to get cozy with a good atmospheric book, witchy, academic, mysterious and thrilling are best!
Amazing recommendations! I haven't read a book in a while but these sound so fascinating...
For 'earthy' type books I'd recommend Lanny by Max Porter - especially as an audiobook!
THE HACIENDA is one of my all time favorite books that I read last year! I still want to check out OUR SHARE OF NIGHT! 😍
Thanks for these great recommendations! Tell Me I'm Worthless by Alison Rumfitt is a really interesting and original "haunted house" story. Very dark but I enjoyed the language and themes a great deal.
I love the audio version of The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon - narrated by Ann Heche
a dowry of blood is my favorite book ever of all time!!! i don't believe anything will ever top it for me
I read The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon as a 12 year old when it came out and I remember really loving it. I was just talking about it the other day and thinking about re-reading it.

I loved Smithy! It's such an under hyped book. I thought its sequel was going to be released soon, but it's now a 2024 release.
It really is an under-hyped book! Ooooh I didn't realize the sequel was coming in 2024, def will have to look out for that!
if you loved Legends and Lattes and want more of that found family cozyiness in a supernatual characters version I highly reccommend The Only Purple House in Town by Ann Aguirre it's technically part of series but definetly can be read on it's own.
I also got Hex Appeal by Kate Johnson, Happily Haunted Afters by Brittany Kelley, The whispering dead by Darcy coats
Recommending Mexican Gothic for Hispanic heritage month too
Love your book recs but even more so I love the sweater you’re wearing!! Where is it from?
Be Still My Heart is a thriller romance collab by Emily McIntire set in autumn. It's enemies to lovers with a forgotten past.
More backlist recommendations pleaseeee

Have you looked under the dust jacket of Nettle & Bone? Gorgeous!
A truly terrifying haunted house story = Tell me I'm worthless by Alison Rumfitt. TRY IT PLZZZ
Definitely agree with this. Mixed feelings on the book overall, but that house was 😱 I’d be so interested to hear Kayla’s thoughts on this one.
I did not like this one 😅
