    I thought the best episode about Boba Fett was with the Tuscans. I was so disappointed that the other Tuscan tribes (and even the Jawas, just for fun) did not rise up in his defence at the end. It would have tied it altogether. With all the townspeople, Tuscans and Jawas working together.

    • @MrBazBake
      @MrBazBake 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Worse is that there are Tuskens obviously allied with Freetown. Boba should have recruited them while Mando recruited Cobb Vanth.

    • @Rbrgr83
      @Rbrgr83 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Fully agreed. I get that you need to have the deaths of the tribe he bonded with for his character motivation. These were the individuals who directly impacted him. But I think they made a mistake having that specific tribe be isolated from the rest of the Tuskens. You could have very easily made it to where the story of him helping that tribe spread to where the other tribes would have supported him in the final fight. It would give a more complete sense of Boba uniting ALL of Tatooine against a foreign threat, and so him being the leader coming out of it would carry more weight than "I want to be a crime boss now I guess".

    • @chrisoneill2006
      @chrisoneill2006 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be many explanations to explain why they didn't involve them for the final episode, could it be that there's divisions between individual tribes which have not been covered, that we're not aware of, or is there just a general camaraderie and unity, where Boba could have had Mando track some down in the N1 NabooCrest to join forces with the others? 😄

    I remember as a kid thinking how cheesy it was when the rancor trainer was crying after Luke crushed its head with the iron gate. Flashforward to Book of Fett and Dany Trejo explaining how the pet and trainer can have an emotional bond made the iconic scene relevant and nostalgic. I think the show has kept up with the Star Wars genre and a little cheese can go well with wine. Both taste great after proper aging.

    The story falls apart once Fett offers to help the Rodian escape. He came out of the Sarlacc a good guy. He didn't change over time. His motivations never made sense. Jon Favreau's Boba Fett is soft, naive, and stupid. I can only conclude that he ruined the character on purpose to elevate Mando.

      This 100000 times over. I love the cold, calculating, ruthless, smart Fett from the books but since it's not canon we can't assume that's how he actually is. It was their call to make him into whatever they wanted and I guess soft and squishy is what they went for.
      They didn't "ruin" my favorite character but they sure lowered my opinion of him by a lot. Still a fun watch, and I enjoyed the show but secretly I am disappointed with the approach they took. Can't please everyone though, I'm sure the kids loved it..

    Most of the critiques I've seen for this show amount to people crying that it's not the same as Mando while missing the entire plot to the Book of Boba. Boba had a life epiphany while in the Sarlacc pit/Bacta tanks. Basically his bounty hunter life almost got him killed... like his father was. The Tuskans taught him about living an honourable life. You even mention there shouldn't be flashbacks if they don't effect anything in the future story... uhh.... You might want to re-watch the final fight where Boba takes down Cad Bane. That Gaffi stick he used... the techniques he used... it's all explained in the flashbacks.
    My only question is, did if really need to be a separate show? Mando and Boba could have been all the same show. The story would have made more sense for people if it was told in chronological order. Could have blended in the Boba/Tuskan back story in with Season 1, then Season 2 have him and Fennec taking over Jabba's Palace.

When it comes to Star Wars, people complain too much. This show was made to help fans understand bobas continued story and unfortunately Din is a better written character and fans can’t get over that.

    I think the motivation for Boba doing what he does is that he is finding what it means to have honor and be honorable. His whole life he's been following in others footsteps and taking orders for people who don't really care for him. His experience in the Sarlac and later in the desert changes something in him fundamentally even if he's unsure of what it is himself. All he knows is that the life that led him to the pit is not the life for him. That's why we need Mando. He knows the Way. I think Mando will teach the Way to all Mandolorians including Bo Katan. Honor baby - let's restore the Honor of the Mandolorian culture.

    • @Rbrgr83

      @@dartheverstar9564 I think they hit it on the head early in the video. Take those first 4 episodes, put them in chronological order, and have it be like a nice lil 4-ep special right before Mando S3 debuts, and then have 5-7 be the start of Mando. Think about those 3 episodes and how great of a kickstart that would be to a new season, with (hopefully) more impressive things to come.
      You'd just need a bit more of a climax to those first 4 eps, maybe end it with Fennec meeting with Din to ask for help, and then when you pick it back up you're closing out that hanging thread of Boba's journey. IDK, not sure what the right answer is but I don't think what they did was it.

We are finding out who he is during this series. We didn't already know him. He was a literal mystery prior to this series. He's suggesting Fett has somehow changed. Changed from what? What was he before? Exactly. We don't know what he was before. He probably had less than one minute of screen time prior to this. There are Ewoks that we knew more about.

    This show epitomises the trend with large cinematic universes: making *content* rather than *stories* . Not far off from what Scorsese has been saying about cinema.
    The Book of Boba Fett is set in the Star Wars universe, linking in as many recognisable characters as possible in some very familiar settings (with copy-cat set pieces) to make that abundantly clear. But there's no narrative arc, no emotion, no suspense, and no character development. We know Luke's backstory from the original trilogy, and his future from the sequel trilogy; there's nothing gained by showing us what happened in the middle. Same thing for Boba Fett flashbacks (since we saw him in Mandalorian already).
    The relentless stoicism and blank expressions from Boba and Senec are just bland. The only time there's anything resembling emotion or characters behaving as people is in the bits that are flashbacks or related to Grogu, ie, not part of the main show. Oh, and the talkative guy who used to work for the Mayor, he had more humanity than the rest of the cast put together, but was mostly used as comic relief thereby washing away any potential depth. The mods are nothing more than cyber-punk, colour-coded power-rangers who are obviously only designed to sell toys. Their entire personality boils down to "they exist" and nothing more.
    It's like the whole show was designed by a committee that poured over characters' timelines from the Star Wars universe, saw where there were gaps, and decided to cram as much *content* there as possible, with no regard for story telling. It's the opposite of Mandalorian (season 1) which took slightly familiar aspects from Star Wars, and told a coherent, engaging story by giving itself space to do so in new settings with new characters.
    The Book of Boba Fett is nothing more than an additional shot of *content* for those addicted to Star Wars, and has as much entertainment value as seeing the wheels spin on a one-arm-bandit at 5am in a second rate casino. People who reply "anything Star Wars is great" are exhibiting precisely the behaviour of an addict begging for their next hit.

    I feel like everyone is forgetting he had a huge arc in clone wars. Everyone bases this off empire and return if the Jedi. It was character development and the shows are all connected. So much so the bounds of the shows dissolve. I liked the back story, the flash backs and how his new demeanor. He was more angry in the beginning of the show and learns to calm. I don't get why everyone is just trying to find a reason to not like it.

      @dflowers30 I disagree. This show stood on its own perfectly fine. It's not the show runners fault that people are only partial star wars fans. Not watching clone wars or rebels is a choice. A huge swath of the current story is spilling from those episodes. Choosing to not watch it hinders said person's view of the storyline. To say it needs to stand on its own is silly at best.
      Clone wars and rebels were made for these shows. We have been witnessing a huge world building for a decade and it's coming together now. So while everyone only sees a wall. We see the doorway to the gateway between worlds. I for one am excited to see where this goes!

    One thing that people don't seem to mention is Temuera Morrison. I want to like him. I really do! But as we're talking about his character not having an arc or not caring enough about him as opposed to caring more about Mando & Grogu. A HUGE part of it is the writing of course, but Temuera Morrison is just.... so flat. We have to care about this character and a BIG part of that is the actor projecting that character. Pedro went how long playing Din with that helmet on and we felt every movement, turn, word and feeling. Temuera had his helmet off most of the series and he still didn't seem to radiate anything. Again, a HUGE part of that is the writing and lack of arc for him, but .... he's the center of this story and we cared more about other characters than him, even characters that don't even speak. Just saying... I see this series as a bridge series that connects things and begins other directions.

      Yes. This. And another thing that I’ve not seen anyone mention - he’s just way too fricken old, which took me out of the story from the start. I get wanting to have the original clone actor portray him, but Boba is canonically only 41 years old at this point, and Temuera is 61. Plus he magically put on a bunch of weight after falling into that sarlacc. It just didn’t work from the very start. I really think this whole thing would worked better if they recast him.

    Personally I think they should have looked at Spider-man’s way of dealing with the nostalgia characters. Cad Bane in the show was a little more than a cameo, same with asohka. Why would asohka be chilling in luke’s planet if she was searching for thrawn the last time we saw her, we didnt have a glimpse of that story in any way(something that could lead into her show). And Luke was incredible incoherent in favor of the sequels, why would he make grogu choose betwen the jedi way and attachment when it was thanks to the attachment to his father that he defeated the empire.
    Another critiscm that I have is the use of cgi to make old characters come back instead of using an actor. It was never necessary in the past, the change of actors gave us Ewan as obi wan back in the day. I think we are missing on a lot in that regard
    And to kinda quote mark hamill, I don’t think this was our bobba I think it was just bob

    Creatively, it was intended that the flashbacks were moments of processing PTSD or 2nd chance at life brings a new outlook, and that coming out of the Sarlac was indeed his rebirth, and like a person recovering both the parts you liked about the person you were, there is a discovery process of learning to become what Boba is transforming towards.
    Also, that time with the Tuscans was supposed to be profound, remembered, and changed his worldview. Just like a Hunka ceremony where a tribal member of a Native American tribe would adopt someone into their family as I was by a Lakota family back in 2007, you are gaining new parents, brothers, sisters, and beliefs. One that understands stewardship of the land, and how to take care of it. Then bringing that mentality to a more modern and corrupt world.
    Don't know why these parts weren't emphasized more or overlooked by the viewer, directors, etc. But that is how it came out in the creative session. Also, wrote a scene of accidental eating by Rancor as a possible. Wanted more development time with the beast but then, it wouldn't of been as much of a surprise at the end I guess. You had to forget about it a bit.
    Plus, Boba, needed to call in all his friends, including Mando. Those sidebars would of been way more schizo if held for later Mando 3 or some other show. Best to get Luke's failed first recruiting attempt and choice with Grogu out of the way. Quests aren't always given with all steps revealed in advance. A new tribe forms.
    The Force itself is training and testing all parties involved.
    Ultimately, we intended to provide a fan feast, and I think some may have overate/overcooked?
    We also used roleplay methods to write multiple seasons at once, multiple sessions should have occurred to fine-tune the first. Everyone should have had a chance to write for a force wielder as a goal. Believe the spin was input from that actor or a creative to reference a Lego game dodge animation, a comment on a fan forum helped me remember that bit but post might have missed placing the blaster shot to trigger it. Still a good shot for a GIF or poster.
    I hear the panel's negative critique, fair and valid, hope the response helps.

    This show had great special effects and stunning visuals. I didn't like the Mods motorcycles. To me they looked like something that belongs in "The 5th Element" rather than Star Wars, but everything else was fine. This show's weakness is it's character development. It just seems as if there wasn't any significant effort given to making Boba Fett a character that we can understand and sympathize with. I take that as just poor writing. You can throw all the special effects that Lucasfilm and Disney have at a show, and it won't mean anything if ultimately you can't identify with the characters at all. This is why the two Mandalorian episodes were the best out of all seven. We understand Din Djarin and Grogo. We even understand the Armourer and Paz Visla. We know who they are. We know what their motivations are. We can easily identify with them. Boba Fett's motivations are unclear through most of the show, and so are Fennec Shand's. This show needed to let us really get to know those characters, so that we can identify with them, and really get behind them. Unfortunately, that just didn't happen at all. When the series ended, I was left wondering why they even made it at all. I feel as though their money would have been better spent on The Mandalorian Season 3.

    I've gone back and rewatched the entire show again to see how it landed on a second viewing, because I also felt a little underwhelmed by the time it had all wrapped up.
    I'm sure that the writers got together and reflected on how Boba Fett, cool as he is, is this traditionally one-dimensional character. Be a badass, do jobs, get paid. Mandalorian S2 did a good job showing us Fett is a little different than the last time we saw him. Sure, he was after his armor when he met Din Djarin, but he also honored his word and risked himself to help get Grogu back from the Empire. There was this honorable facet to the cold-hearted bounty hunter we were used to.
    So I love the basic idea (we'll talk about the execution) of the show was to develop him as a character. Agree with ScreenCrush that the flashbacks should have just dominated the entire 7 episodes and we get to see how Boba emerging from the Sarlaac develops into this more honorable guy by the time he meets Din Djarin, or we should have left the entire narrative in the present and focused on why Boba Fett now wants to be the Daimyo of Tatooine and further develop him as not only a man of honor but a wise leader and ruler.
    Instead, we get
    1) Almost half of the show is flashbacks
    2) The other half is the present where he is no longer developing as a character, basically just running out the clock til the inevitable showdown with the pikes
    3) Complete pause on his story to do 2 episodes of Mandalorian.
    Honestly it's kind of ironic that even in bringing Boba Fett back from the dead, he ends up being a side character in his own series. Hopefully they let a good writer do a comic or book series that continues his story and does the character more justice.

    I guess it’s the 3rd “book” in the Mandalorian series, that just happens to be called the Book of Boba Fett. It answers a few questions we had on his survival and his redemption or transformation into a protagonist. He was a villain, but he did follow a moral code. The underlying purpose was to make him a good guy, but now he is in charge of a faction of the underworld, which is likely a theme going forward for Star Wars in this era or timeline.

  • @goodorusty
    @goodorusty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    These three people hit the nail on the head. The Book of Boba Fett had many great moments but it should of focused solely on Boba Fett's story after he escaped the Sarlacc Pit. As much as I loved the 2 episodes with Mando, I think they should have saved those for Mandalorian season 3.
    Sure have him show up to help Boba but they could have shown him no longer having the Beskar spear and there's only hints about what's going on in his life through the dialogue. In essence, these would act as teasers for Mando season 3 while still keeping the focus on what's going on with Boba. It's okay to bring in a character from another series with only a small explanation what he's been up to since we all know his story will be explored further later on. It would actually be more intriguing to have to wait until his side of things is shown in HIS show.
    I also can't get over how Boba Fett recruited all these minions to flesh out his "criminal empire" and then the show literally never explores these characters at all. I'm not even sure any of the Moders' names were ever spoken. They are paradoxically both cannon fodder and have plot armor at the same time.

    100% agree with Matt on every statement he has here. 🔥
    I’m kind of surprised they didn’t take the opportunity to give Boba a live-action flashback story from his childhood interactions with Bossk, Aurra, Asajj, Dengar, and more to explain his transformation into the seemingly more solitary and uncompromising ESB Boba, then evolve again into the seemingly ‘nice’ Boba of ‘the Mandalorian’.

    This was a unique storytelling strategy.
    It required people to set aside “expectations” and follow the journey. Sometimes not knowing “Why?” is meant to be apart of the journey. We are so used to making inferences and catching easter eggs, that I can understand the frustration. But this is real life, people don’t always know why others are making certain moves, but rather their intentions.

    I think the Mando-centric episodes made a lot more sense once we saw the season finale. Those episodes had to position Din and Grogu so they were where they needed to be to participate in the finale. Could they have not included Grogu and just had Din fight alongside Boba? Sure and it would not have needed two episodes of story time to make it happen. We could have caught up with Grogu and Luke at the beginning of The Mandalorian season 3, giving Grogu a little more training time. Perhaps we could have had some sort of Mando Christmas special prior to The Book of Boba Fett, where that character positioning could have been done without it eating into Boba’s storyline.

    13:25 I grew up in a mafia-run neighborhood here in Italy. When the new boss came in in the early 90s he was absolutely fixated on being liked. He was very concerned about what his reputation and good standing was. And this guy came from the streets, he was a cold blooded sicario. But when he came in he was sort of acting like he was the benevolent father, a good man with honest principles. To someone from outside the criminal-run area it would seem weird, but it actually makes sense.

    They keep mentioning episode 4 being a drastic improvement for a reason. The show got better because Robert Rodriguez seemingly got out of the way until the end. The show would have been much more consistent and had much higher quality pacing if Filoni or Faverau were directing, or BDH or Waititi. If more people told RR 'no' more often we would have a very different series and discussion. It feels like they misunderstood why his movies consistently fail until they're picked up by rabid fandom, you can't just smash things named 'cult classics' together and assume they'll work.
    I'm glad none of the discussion anywhere I've seen ever talks badly about Morrison's acting though. Dude killed it and brought a real sense of deliberate honor to a revered character. He's one of the best parts of the entire franchise for a reason, and I hope he's able to show more of that off in the next seasons.

    I think it would have been interesting if they did it in chronological order but with a twist. Episodes 1-2 is Boba escaping from the sarlac and living with the Tuskans. Episodes 3-4 are the Mandalorian 2.5 ones. Episode 5 starts with Boba explaining how his experience with the Tuskans made him want to give up bounty hunting and build a tribe. Then it (and the next few episodes) goes into each ally as they're forced to come before Boba, ending with them joining him. That all leads to the finale where they join forces against the pikes.

    I enjoyed the show and always invested more in the character of Boba Fett than his screen time warranted. I thought the flashbacks were fine. Personally, flashbacks break up the flow of the story and introduce a new story line and detail aspects of the character, which I like. Considering it was a character from a movie 30 years ago who only had 3 spoken lines I thought they successfully created a story that not only dovetailed into the original movie, but it also explained how and why the character had evolved, picking up most of the content regarding the character in animated shows, books and comics.
    Additionally, they went into depth on a lot of "new" things. The Mod Kids street gang on the bikes. More storyline involving the Tuskans. And more Rancor.
    Not every new Star Wars story is going to be "Luke Returns." I give it two thumbs up.

    I think the big reason a chronological approach would have been hard is because the events of the Mandalorian fall right in the middle of the timeline. Would they tell up to the moment of Boba meeting Din and then skip? or rehash that mid section? The hop over to Mando 2.5 felt like a mix of contractual obligations to certain actors and a desire to set up Mando 3. They could easily have done Grogu’s choice and Din’s excommunication at the beginning of the next show but probably want to go straight to Mandalore. I thought the Tusken arc was one of the more compelling pieces and wanted Boba to be a Tusken-backed Daimyo. Introduce some of Tatooine’s ultimate outcasts to city life. Instead, they fridged the tribe to give Boba his motivation in a can.

    When I think of crime bosses in the hood, being nice to local folks… I can come up with a lot of fictional & a few real life examples. I guess most folks aren’t willing to understand how crime works. For poor folks with little opportunity, crime is a logical choice. Folks have to eat & live. People like nice things. It’s a nuance that seems to be missed by a lot of people. Star Wars allows for characters to be more than 2 dimensional. I’m closing, Star Wars fans feel like they have everything figured out within the first five mins of an episode. I enjoy the curveballs mixed in with the fast balls. I love the direction the Star Wars narrative is heading (beyond the Skywalker legacy). Pull back on the zoom folks & enjoy the view.

    From the beginning, Disney should have one anthology series called "Star Wars Stories" or something. It could have started with a 4 episode Mandalorian introduction, then shifted to a standalone episode from the Old Republic, maybe another standalone about Baby Dengar, then shift into a few episodes of Obi -Wan, then crossover into the Boba Fett/Tuskin story, maybe go back to Mando for a standalone adventure. They wouldn't even need to split them into seasons, each story arc could be released throughout the year with breaks between.

    While it was far from perfect, I think this show was much better than it gets credit for. People/channels seem to be hating this series just because it makes them feel like “bigger fans”. Nerd hubris runs rampant in the Star Wars community and fans love to think they know more about the characters than Dave Filoni himself… or just to get views.

      None of my complaints about the show were around the 'correctness' of the characters as I see them or would like to see them. In fact, I'd be more frustrated if I wasn't as familiar with some of these characters because there is very little character development outside of the Tusken flashbacks, and the Din/Grogu story that really belongs in it's own show.
      Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it more than anything from the sequel trilogy. But I don't think it's a far better show than it gets credit for. I think the credit it gets is surrounding the fanservice it contains, not the actual story it tells and that's appropriate. The present day Tatooine story was boring as shit, and I'm not trying to prop up a youtube channel or claim to be king shit Star Wars expert.

      It was too short and the story was told in a weird disjointed way. I liked it alot but I just felt cheated for content

    I agree with your comments around 16 min in, Ryan. I'm comfortable with the character growth being that his time with the Tusken tribe, and his moments reflecting on how his father died, led him to want to have a tribe of his own. They didn't seem to put enough work into showing that he wasn't just remembering and experiencing those things, though. We needed to see that they were influencing his decisions and personality. Things like him having opportunities to succeed via his old ways, alone and ruthless, but showing him choose to take a more difficult route because he values the goal of building a solid tribe. Hell, maybe after killing Bane he could've had a chance to reflect on it and tell somebody "That's the road I was on. I would've died alone on a distant planet, with no impact other than the lives I've taken."

    I really like your takes on starwars stuff, I watch quite a few starwars channels and I believe you are one of the best as you are a fan but also can look at things from a different angle
