Beautiful. I have An OLD Recording of this. It was a Shaker song. One of my Uncle's said it use to be a Red song before it was used as a Shaker song. It is a very old song.
My grandfather, Bishop Gilbert Sotomish, used this song as his Shaker Song until he died in the early fifties. It was sung at my grandmothers’s funeral in 1978. They sang that song multiple times that day with a great crescendo. It seemed like they couldn’t or didn’t want to stop singing. Very moving. Very comforting.
What a great job all of you kids. singing and dancing proud and keep up the good work. Just love this song. I found this song when I lived in Skokomish and I have to listen to it everyday. thanks for sharing.
I am so incredibly happy to see the traditions of our people being passed down to the youth. This is absolutely wonderful!! I love this video!!! :) saloli
I love this so much !!! Always uplifts my spirit. Watching and hearing the youth sing ,dance and drum is good medicine thank you .I play this all the time ,it warms my coast salish spirit and soul!! 💜💕💜💪🙏👍🙌
I remember being a kid and being so jealous of the boys dance. (later on I was able to appreciate the feminine side of this dance) Love the vid. Thanks for this. This took me back!
My grandfather was Gilbert Sotomish, member of the Quinault Tribe in Western Washington. The Sotomish family (Raven Clan) used this song and dance in the early days. After he was converted to the Shaker Church, he gave up the dance, but continued to use the song as his Shaker Song. He eventually was elected as Bishop of the 1910 Shaker Church organization that covered WA, OR, CA, and BC, Canada. He was the Bishop there until he died in 1950. No family member used the song after that in the church.
oh my goodness thank you for sharing this song it goes right thru you like a BLESSING say prayers for my sister she has just lost her lovely mother to cancer hard times ahead for her and family
This "SONG" is very GREAT. To me it sounds like mixster of Shaker Church song with the drumming and the dancers, resemble Eagles dancing. Very Spiritual Song. I LOVE IT. Niye.......... D'
This was originally my family’s song. They were from the Raven clan (KAPE in the Quinault language). So you’re right, it does resemble eagle movements.
a recording was made on vinyl in the late 50's of this song and it was done by shaker church members. I have it, and you could look it up perhaps in Smithsonian folkways under songs of the puget sound.
This is awesome 👍🏽 made me get goosebumps. Nice to see the kids are very much involved. Wish that was like that around where I'm from. Too much bad influences and kids making bad choices.
