    After seeing this interview, I have more respect for Matthew than I have ever had. In my opinion it's the most honest and real interview I've ever seen with an actor. He's not trying to entertain, he's shooting straight from the hip. I loved Buyers Club, and after True Detective I am a serious hard core fan. He is a much deeper human being than a guy that is directed to just take off his shirt.

    He even said in another interview, this weight loss made him "Hard to live with" He said his emotions and senses were in full throttle due to this major weight loss he had taken on for a job. He is dedicated, but at what expense? Even other actors that are a lot older now, like Tom Hanks said "Never Again!" The ups and downs of his weight caused him to not only get diabetes but as well other health problems. I sure hope this doesn't happen to Matthew, he now has family, young kids to keep with in his 40's. He also said in another interview, the weight loss was easier than the gain. His body wanted to push back to his original weight fast... But he said the first thing he ate was a big cheese burger and fries and a shake. He said that was his biggest mistake! It made him feel so sick for a good 2 weeks. He is used to eating healthy anyway! When beginning this weight loss he did portion control. Eating non fat foods, lots of vegetables ect... He said he had to go slower going back up than he did going down. Still he is one of my favorite actors. Golden Globe winner well earned.

      To add to my first comment, this is why I believe he is so serious! Otherwise he is very funny, light, not so serious at all in other interviews. Look for yourself once he gained back the weight... It's like night and day, like a different person all together.

      Not according to what Tom Hanks had claimed, when he did the movies "Cast Away" and he even said that in some of his movies as well "Philadephia" as well as some others I can't think of off hand right now, he did believe they MAY have cause him to get Diabetes type 2 due to the large amounts of weight he would gain! And then loose so quickly during the movies, may have added to his early onset of what was usually a pre disposed later stage diabetes type 2 that he ended up getting at only 36 years old. He did say "No more" to any parts that included his gaining any weight after his 2009 appearances telling the world about his type 2 diabetes. Plus he also said that gaining 60lbs or more would also effect his knees, ankles and hips being that he had gained most of the weight up top. He now says "You have to take care of your Temple if you want to be healthy and live a long healthy life." My Mom didn't type 2 diabetes that is pre disposed on her Mother's side of the family at age 58. Which she did have to control with medication to get her bsc down and she did loose weight at that time using a dietitian. But she said she was always so hungry and couldn't even sleep at night having to eat at 5 p.m. and being such an early riser she at her breakfast that she had to measure everything out with a scale or by a measuring cup. And that would be only like 1/2 cup of Special K and only 2 strawberry;s that she would dice up very small and that was it! She would have her lunch at noon. Which would or could consist of maybe 1/2 of a banana and they did show her some more filling things she could eat for lunch and dinner. But she would beging to freak out on her blood tests all of time. So her Dr. said to stop testing her blood so much. So, she only eats just until she's satisfied only choosing soups and salads with high protein, low carbs and low sugars reading labels all of the time. Now she can have an entire cup of whole steel cut oatmeal with fresh blueberry's, and not have to worry about how many blueberry's she put's in there. Times have changed since she was first diagnosed with Diabetes. And YES if you do go on these crash fad diets and gain twice as much back you will risk getting diabetes sooner in life and that is a known fact! Look at some of these kid that are obese in schools today and are having blood sugar issues at the type 2 level. They aren't like we used to be, very active always outside playing or even downstairs using our imaginations, making forts and just keeping active with our minds, and not stuck to phones, Ipads, laptops, pc's and video games and the internet. We would walk miles in the cold and snow from the pool hall downtown all the way home. That was a good 4.5 miles to walk. Because we just didn't have the money at that time to take the bus home. But on those days we did, we would surely take the bus home and not have to suffer the cold. But when it was nice out, we would take our bikes everywhere! But that of course was a different time altogether, when you knew you were safe in the ciry you lived in. Now every week there is a mugging or a shooting, or someone just disappears without a trace. Only to be found usually dead or taken against their will. And that's a whole different story altogether. If you know you are pre disposed to diabetes, you should know that you are taking chances of getting it sooner by gaining massive amounts of weight just for a role in the movies for a big payday. But hey, if that's what it worth to you, that's your own business I guess.

    Damn, this guy is going to make Interstellar even better than it already would've been. His objective perception on himself and his characters is the kind of introspection I look for in actors, in terms of how much I can relate to them. McConaughey's Killer Joe was so intriguing, and performance-wise breathtaking.

    Followed his career, the entire McConaissance. Knew how fucking good he was. Rooted for him. Lincoln Lawyer. Paperboy. Mud. Bernie. Magic Mike. Killer Joe. True Detective. The Wolf Of Wall Street. Interstellar. The greatest run by any actor in cinema history, arguably. Now everyone else knows, too. Oscar win and the acclaim.

    Yes, he looks interesting. I'm more interested in his eventual performance in the movie. What I like about the interview is that it made me realize what a thoughtful actor he is, which is new coming from him. I saw 4 of these performances(Mud is not out yet), and 3 was good, but he was outstanding in Killer Joe. Can't wait to see what's in store for this guy, I have a newfound respect for him as an actor.

  • @la-zh4231
    @la-zh4231 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I am laughing at all the comments before people knew this was for his role as Ron in Dallas Buyers Club....Matt was very much emotionally and physically invested and is why he should win that Oscar. He said he shut himself off to the world, whereas Jared put himself out as Rayon to the world, both had weight loss but different amounts and handled it differently. Matt became a hermit almost and exercised his mind instead of his body. Watch his latest interviews, he's the same funny Alright, Alright, Alright kinda guy now :) I'm looking forward to these two winning Oscars, please don't let me down Academy!

    dude is deep.

    • @BTaylor3444
      @BTaylor3444 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wouldn't say "deep", I would say he is cerebral and mentally agile, and is able to convey these things in his latest performances. He is strong at portraying neurosis and great at delivering monologues. I will be curious to see where he goes from here acting-wise. I tend to reserve depth for emotions, and McConaughey strikes me as showing more, which strikes me as a mentally oriented person. Frankly I thought Chiwetel Eljiofor gave a deep, emotional performance because he inhabited the emotions.

    • @MayaThomasable

      BTaylor3444 that's what I meant by 'deep'. just took less time to type it. :-D

    • @BTaylor3444
      @BTaylor3444 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maya Thomas I don't consider deep personalities to just be mentally oriented people. McConuaghey can talk a great deal, and can "show" a lot, but I wonder what he feels. Like I said, Chiwetel Eljiofor is more emotionally believable to me than McConaughey.

    His commitment to his movies has most certainly paid off.
    And nobody cares what 50 Cent does when it comes to acting.

  • @BTaylor3444

    Yeah, he appears really into himself compared to other "serious" actors. Almost as if he is feigning intensity. He loves the sound of his own voice also, compared to some other dp/30 interviews.

    • @domzbu
      @domzbu 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      No idea where you get those impressions? All good actors who are magnetic to watch have learned to be comfortable with themselves and their voices, to not hold back. Shame this often mistaken for arrogance.

    • @BTaylor3444
      @BTaylor3444 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jesse Dampolo I meant in the sense of perspective.... I know that it is a calling and the commitment to be a really good actor is one where it's part of how you live and breathe. I was referring to some actors' perspective, which has been narrowed to the point that they get lost in the pretension of talking about "their art" (in other words, their ego), and losing sight of the fact that not everyone can make a living in this way. Actually to be a great actor is to obliterate the self, I think Jim Sheridan said that or something haha.

      I think you're projecting. You obviously take acting very seriously as apparent by your quotes by knowledge of media coverage, scholars and long diatribe. But don't take your misguided feelings about whatever you feel into a distaste for Matt Mac here.
