  • In this video, we are making a simple pair of rebar tongs for blacksmithing. These rebar tongs work great for common forging projects. We got two pieces of 2 feet long half inch thick rebar from our local hardware store and used our simple two brick forge to forge the tongs to shape. Rebar is inexpensive and works well as tongs for basic blacksmithing. Hope you enjoyed the video, make sure to SUBSCRIBE to see more. Thank you!

    I really like the simplicity of your tong making method. I am amazed, however, by your forge! Most people are persuaded or conditioned into thinking they must have a modern forge with all the bells and whistles before they can do any sort of smithing. Your forge is what beginners should really pay attention to. It is a very simple and inexpensive forge, that anybody with basic skills can set up. And the best part is, folks don't have to break the bank to figure out if standing over a hot forge is something they really like. Well done!!!

    I am fairly new to this as a hobby - I made my own forge and anvil. So far it is working well, but I am in dire need of real tongs. I don't need anything fancy, just some thing that works. I have watched several videos on making tongs, but so far this is my favorite - it is exactly what i was looking for - basic tongs with some basic direction. This was more than I needed and I can't wait to get home from work tonight to get started. Thanks!!!

    Thanks for the video man. This is hard core primitive, back to basics blacksmithing and exactly the type of video I need to establish my own ability to go further in this craft! Well done and I will be watching all your vids from here on!

    Thank you so very much. My old tongs are dying and I can't afford to get new ones. This seriously helps. From one blacksmith to another, great work and amazing anvil!

    Really cool and understandable instructions. I tried this with a friend, but unfortunately we were stumped in drilling the hole, because we didn't have a center punch (tried making one, but failed!) and we didn't have hard enough drill bits. Have to finish this another time, but anyway great video.

      BTW rebar is not just steel it is an alloy that is completely random(Pot steel) a bunch of metal chunk melted together(not just steel). sometimes rebar is strong, and sometimes rebar is really hard and sometimes in between

    Where do you get the steel connecting pin at?

    • @Mercenary_32
      @Mercenary_32 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sampson 2004 you can use 1/4 or 3/8 steel rod 3 to 4 feet long @ Home Depot or Lowes. All depends on width needed, could be 1 1/2" long. Look at some ways to forge rivets, it well help visualize what needs to be done.☺
