    Is there any way to mount a finder scope? I think a finder scope could be very helpful with these.

      Hi Joseph. There is no finder dovetail base attachment on the BT's so there isn't a way to mount a finder out of the box, but we appreciate your feedback. The unit includes a pair of 18mm eyepieces which provide a magnification of 31x. If you have lower power eyepieces, one suggestion would be to start with those for an easier low power view then switch to higher powers once you're fixed on an area.

      Hello Orion: Have you considered redesigning the carrying handle so its top surface is a standard picatinny rail? That would allow the mounting of a finder or red dot?

    I'm in New Zealand where there is no Orion retailer. Same for Australia. Orion won't ship to New Zealand. Could you please point me towards a USA retailer who might take my $$$ and ship BT 100 + U fork + tripod to New Zealand? Please?

    The ED lenses are a real step forward over other binoculars in suppressing chromatic aberration. It looks as though a red dot finder could be attached to the handle. Is that true? That would be essential in using the binoculars--letting you point them more accurately.

      @@oriontelescopes Hi, the following is intended to be friendly and helpful. I want to report on a way to attach a red dot finder to the handle of these binoculars that I have discovered elsewhere. (A red dot finder would enhance pointing and thus the appeal of the BT-90.) The handle on the BT is exactly the same as the handle on APM of Germany's 100 mm binoculars: it has a flattened, recessed area with two holes drilled in it. APM advertises a red dot finder that attaches to this part of the handle: please check their web site for this size binocular. So I DO think that a red dot can be attached to the handle of the BT-90, and I do NOT think that this finder is proprietary to APM. Hoping that this information is useful.

    why cant they use the eyepiece to correct for chromatic aberration, wouldn't the size of the lens make it cheaper to make?.

      Hello David. The BT-100 90-Degree binocular actually has ED lenses so it does minimize chromatic aberration - they provide fantastically sharp and high contrast views:

      what I was asking was about was if they could make the apochromatic eyepieces for achromatic telescopes, but I guess there is no money in them like there are for 1000 dollar apochromatic lens.

      @@davidbrandenburg8029 , Eyepieces cannot correct chromatic aberration produced by the objective lenses, it only magnifies the image and whatever false-color produced by the objective lenses. The reason for high-quality eyepieces with rare or ED glass is to minimize or eliminate any possible chromatic aberration produced by the eyepieces.

    I plan on purchasing this setup, however I have a question. Is it possible to do astrophotography of any decent kind with binoculars like these? Can a CCD camera be used as one of the eyepieces??

    • @oriontelescopes
      @oriontelescopes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting question, we haven't really tested this before. Most astronomy CCD's usually have similar backfocus requirements to eyepieces, so it could theoretically work. Exposure time would be very limited on a non-tracking mount, so an EQ mount would be a better idea. It would require a pretty sturdy mount due to the weight, and for visual use wouldn't be useful because the eyepieces would be in a very awkward position. Something like our Atlas Pro AZ-EQ-G might be a good choice since it would make visual use more possible in AZ mode. Of course binocular telescopes have several downsides for astrophotography, but if you already have one it could possibly work.

    Possible to design a binocular that uses either 45 or 90 or 0 degree eyepieces? Then you could switch back and forth if necessary.
